- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Getting sic of the iPhone *****, it's all the same reviews, articles, interviews. If you've read one you've read them all.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ScornForSega:
No niche? The "niche" for the iPhone is anyone who hates cell phone UI's as they are today. All the providers have problems, so to me I don't really care who Apple partnered with since a great Phone/PDA with a poor carrier is still a better combination than a lackluster Phone/PDA with a poor carrier.
I think the size of that "niche" might be just a bit higher than 1%! - IamBobX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Written by a Mac Fanboy ;)
- quepol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2an interesting behind-the-scenes of the genesis of the iPhone.
- rgsunico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I liked how this was put together. More than just an iPhone review, they actually try to analyze Steve Jobs methodology behind all these big fanfare announcements.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First blunder? Where were you in the late 80's and mid-90's?
Anyway, this is just the very first iPhone, and for a first generation, it is fantastic. All the problems you mentioned are solvable, and just take a look how much the iPod evolved in 5 years.
Sure, it could be perfect, if it had an input system like Tengo (which, in my experience, is amazingly fast and intuitive), but Apple will have time to catch up. Another good thing is that the iPhone will fire a war for better products, so I am looking forward to what Nokia, Sony Ericsson et al will bring in the next quarters, should be great too. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't be any worse than typing on a RAZR (which I own), and people seem to buy those in droves.
- Stryder81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I honestly think alot of people ( Especially the younger people ) will buy this phone and join the service based on just the fact it is an Iphone running OSX and going to be the sickest phone that will be around.
Apple continues to surprise and surpass thier expections and those of the consumer, I see this giving a nice blow to all the major cellphone companies.
I can't wait...Stevie Jobs & Apple are geniuses! - unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2word!
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Really. I guess math works differently in Apple-land. Or does that cloud of smug prevent you from seeing any calculators.
- franklionette, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1One of the most gushing reviews I've ever read.
- Theophany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Two year agreement really sucks. 8 gigs of space, is like going back in time. Battery life, from what i read, sucks. Touch screen keyboard, from what people say is not good, buttons are better."
Because we all have cell phone providers that don't have 2 year agreements, right? Actually, the only reason that you need a two year agreement is to reduce the cost of the phone, as with every other service provider. Hell, I got my RAZR for extremely cheap with a two year agreement with Verizon (whom I hate and will gladly give up as soon as that two years is up).
Battery life is longer than an iPod nano. 16 hours of music, 5 hours of talking on the phone. iPod nano is quoted at 12 hours. Combine the fact that the 8GB nano 1) doesn't have a phone, 2) doesn't have the battery life of the iPhone, and 3) doesn't have internet capabilities (in fact, any beyond a music player), I'd say the iPhone ($599) versus the iPod nano 8GB ($249) isn't even a contest. Keep in mind that you cannot compare flash memory with HDD memory, as flash is still extraordinarily expensive compared to HDD, ergo comparing it to all other iPods is flawed logic.
The touch screen keyboard means that it's not a piece of crap in two years when someone comes out with a new style of keyboard, or wants to change the UI. I'd imagine we see some updates eventually to bring even the iPhones up to speed with the rest of the Apple products (say 5 years after it's been released).
But hey, people said the same things about iPods. I had the first 5GB that was put out (still have it, in fact), and now I have my 60GB video and a Shuffle. Jobs is a force to be reckoned with in the electronics industry; he can generate some of the most hype going. - KraigR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This one is the best overall summary IMO.
- mweels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Well see about typing on a screen. - sigmaman2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very few products generate such emotion from people like Apple products. Macs were both revered and reviled when they were introduced. The iPod was both "destined to succeed" and "doomed to failure" on its loaunch. The iPhone seems to already be following along that path. Why?
because, love it or hate it, we are all TALKING ABOUT IT!
Everybody here has an opinion about the iPhone, and everybody here is voicing that opinion. The more buzz over the iPhone, the more attention it gets, and the more potential buyers become aware of it. So, everyone talking about the iPhone, even the people who truly hate it, are doing their part to increase awareness (and therefore, sales) of the phone, whether they mean to or not. Thanks for doing your part to drive early adoption. I'll be buying in a couple of years when the price comes down. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think iPhone is apple first blunder. This is the first product people put "iPhone is great, but...." BUT is what people are concerned about. Face it people, I know you are trying to raise crediability of Apple with these articles, but people are critical, people are very skeptical if whether iPhone will go beyond its expectations.
People are concerned about these things:
-2 year agreement
-price
-8gig space only
-battery life, can battery be easily exchanged?
-Touch screen keypad. Is it good enough?
If apple had great answers for these questions, but they dont. Price sucks. Two year agreement really sucks. 8 gigs of space, is like going back in time. Battery life, from what i read, sucks. Touch screen keyboard, from what people say is not good, buttons are better.
Another concerned question. Will there be free apps like there is many many free apps for Treo windows mobile version? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1*10 million
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2as opposed to a microsoft fanboy?
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2It's more hype then anything. It's not going to replace the Blackberry or the Treo.
I mean, their target market penetration is 1 friggin percent. 1%.
The iPod became enormously popular because it fulfilled a niche that other companies mysteriously ignored (esp. Sony). The iPhone has no such niche and is basically riding on the iPod's coat tails.
This stinks of another PS3. - scgibsonsg833, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2i phone is stupid
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11% of a billion is 1 million, which is huge for a particular cell phone model. Remember Apple always exceeds their goals anyways.
