- awhiteflame, on 10/12/2007, -3/+84BREAKING NEWS: New iPods to be released eventually.
.... - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27You're out of your ***** mind if you honestly believe current 5.5 generation iPods will hit $149-199 once the true video iPod comes out.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15"People familiar with the matter tell AppleInsider that Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has so far been unwilling to commit the marketing and other resources necessary to bring the device (True video Ipod) to market."
translation:
IT NEVER EXISTED!
Can a rumor kill a rumor? - BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, marked as inaccurate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Pics or it didn't happen, in bed...
- bryguy000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Damn it Steve... Give me the 'True-Video' iPod.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The phones are not equivalent to a 80GB or 30GB iPod (or Zune). A phone could replace a Nano but they generally don't have an interface that is as easy to use or a program as good as iTunes to interface with. Also, even if the phones are small, they are generally larger than the Nano.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"IT NEVER EXISTED!"
Oh please, Apple's probably got a hundred prototype iPods laying around, waiting to be approved to be built, but unless Jobs puts his stamp of approval on it, they're going nowhere.
That being said, this device, and possibly many, many more could exist in any kind of state (be it prototype plastics, or like the original iPod, parts in a shoe-box sized container). This fits better with the quote "unwilling to commit resources", i.e. unwilling to use the valuable Flash they're already paying through the tooth for and millions of dollars to spin up the player until they've got the Movie store and all of its kinks worked out. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Sure, there's less to carry and such, but at the cost of quality."
Hence the reason _everyone_ wants Apple to make a phone. Apple's known not to make very many comprimises from core functionality to make an otherwise okay product Good or even Great. Apple's the only company I would trust to make a combination Phone/DAP that would actually be worth the astronomical sum they'd charge for the device.
Even if Apple left out the audio player feature all together, they would still probably make an outstanding phone; they know design, they know how people like to use their technology, and they like to marry the two the best they can, whenever possible. - 5pr0ck37, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Perhaps because not everyone wants to have a phone's battery die on them after listening to music for the past few hours?
What if there was an emergency, and you, needing to call 911, realize that listening to Justin Timberlake for the last 5 hours killed the battery, and you are now incapable of making that emergency call.
As far as I am concerned, not that it matters a whole lot, I think cell phones should be cell phones. Why does everything have to be an All-In-One these days? Sure, there's less to carry and such, but at the cost of quality.
Music/Media players should be just that. Phones should remain phones first and foremost. - TheRealStyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hopefully there will be a new iPod model at MacWorld in Jan/Feb '07. I would hope the new model would be a video iPod, but even a 100gb model with further improvements to battery life and a larger display would be welcome.
If there is no new model, well, I guess I will just buy the 80gb iPod and carry around a fesnel lens so I can watch a video or play a game. - miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@slickto:
iPod = $250
HDTV = $1000
"Almost as much" ? Uh... - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6not innacurate necessarily. lame maybe...
- debaserA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Let me get this straight:
"First and foremost is said to be a video-centric model that will either replace or supplement the aging fifth-generation iPod.
Still, it could be some time before this much rumored "true video iPod" makes its debut, if at all."
So, the video iPod may be released early next year, it may be delayed, or it may not be released at all.
Thanks. A. Bunch.
How does this qualify as...as...as anything?! This is not even a rumor. This is just hypothetical situations summed up in a news-style report. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2slickto - HDTV=1500, realistically, plus 10+ extra a month (if you have cable. I don't.)
Video ipod? Free: freeipods.com. Or 250, sure.
HDTV Content? Cable bill....
Video ipod content? ISP bill.. Unless you actually buy music/videos. (Yeah, right. That would defeat the purpose!) - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You probably won't regret it later on, honestly.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not sure why you're being dugg down. I thought it was funny
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As compared to what other popular piece of tech/CD/DVD/car/etc? Wow, Apple is trying to sell me something and they ADVERTISE that fact and use MARKETING to make me want it more than product X.Why hasn't any other company done the same thing? Oh wait, they do.
- DucksofAnaheim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RDF(Reality Distortion Field) is the idea that Steve Jobs is able to convince people to believe almost anything with a skillful mix of charm, charisma, slight exaggeration, and clever marketing
- Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@klisk wait, so you're saying that your monitor is incapable of higher resolutions than 320x240? and it's more comfortable to watch a 2" screen that you have to hold in your hand than... well, anything else?
- d3dm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5And on the side of the box will be...
"Welcome to the Hypothetical" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My sources disagree:
http://politicsofdancing.blogspot.com/2006/11/apple-spokesperson-no-6th-generation.html - slickto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And lets see... how much did we spend on the Mac (or PC) to connect to iTunes, and upload to the iPod
Another $1000 - $2000,
or did you steal that also.
Oh I must be nuts, I actually pay for things I own. I guess that's a new concept for you. - DucksofAnaheim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Mr. Ihnatko would have you believe that Apple listens to the user’s needs, while Microsoft listens to the music industry’s needs. Yet the Zune lets you sync non-DRM’ed music back to your computer and the iPod doesn’t (the iPod only allows you to sync DRM’ed music back). From ExtremeTech’s Zune review:
Reverse Sync: Just as it is with Media Player 11, getting songs off your Zune is a snap. When you select your Zune on the left side of the player, you can browse the content that’s on it by artist, genre, etc. Not many people notice this, but the right-hand sync pane will now say “drag items here to create a list to sync from [Zune Name] to your computer.” Just drag whatever tracks, albums, or artists you want to dump from your Zune to your PC media library, hit Sync, and you’re golden. Simple. The hoops you have to jump through to get music off your iPod look silly by comparison.
Imagine that! Microsoft providing users with a feature that Apple refuses to provide. Not that a Mac zealot will ever admit to any such thing. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3The screen on my 5th gen ipod is better than both my tube television and CRT moniter. Better colors, resolution, videos on it are more comfortable to watch, etc. But mostly the colors and clarity are better.
If you can afford a high definition television, maybe you should stop worrying about Ipods. Most people can't afford HDTV yet. 90% even. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3The video iPod has been rumored for more than a year and this is just a continuation of that. Don't worry about it. It's not real until it comes out of Steve Jobs' mouth.
- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5So you believe any picture you see? Newbie.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Honestly though, how did you not see that coming? It's Apple.
- punk90, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1ZomgMana- I just might agree with you on this one just might, but it doesn't mean ill digg you up. Like i said just might.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6mustache
- javip, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3ok all the apple fanboys are going to digg me down..
but with phones like the sony ericsson 950i and 8bg version of the nokia n91 out and obviously more, better, higher capacity phones to come in the next year.. why would anyone want an ipod when you can have the same thing on your phone?
it's great marketing and i guess it makes all the non-cool kids seem more "cool" but it's still a waste of money and space with no added benefits. everyone has and needs a phone after-all
and yes these phones play video too.. - slickto, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0I can't wait until I can spend 10 or 20 bucks to watch a video on a 3.5 inch display! Does anyone really want this? I'll take my high def wide screen anyday.
- beatphats, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I find ZomgMana's "Pics or it didn't happen" quote just as funny as the joke about saying "in bed" after reading from a fortune cookie.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Funny how I got dugg down more than Zomg, whose last 10 or so posts have been the same exact thing.
- slickto, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16 bucks extra a month on my cable bill, for HDTV. Under a 1000 for the TV. You'll spend almost that much just for the "video iPod" alone. Not to mention the cost of iTunes DRM'd videos. Not worried, just concerned.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4You are lame or you are lame.
- RPharazon, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Goddamnit. Those *****. I just bought a 5th gen a week ago.
Grrrr. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5Pics or it didn't happen
- enuzruoydeef, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4go ahead, digg me down, but video on the Zune is pretty good already... http://feedyourzune.com
- jonoxplor, on 10/12/2007, -22/+1just give me the god damn answer! comon plz!
- jcdickerson, on 10/12/2007, -29/+3I think this is legit (I trust Apple Insider) and I think that the video-centric (Widescreen) will be the high-end one - $399? $449? And the 5.5 gen will remain for at least another six months (and will drop in price again to $149 and $199 before EOL). The other two models? The iphone and... the Newton 2? Really, the only other thing you can add to the ipod would be Newton-like functionality... Then you have an "Origami" like device that extennds off of the ipod brand. Pure conjecture on my part.
... or IS it?
BWAHAHHAHHAHAHA!

What is Digg?
