- redrighthand, on 04/29/2008, -0/+71Does anyone watch their vids before posting?
Can we get a tutorial on how to ***** focus!?!? - MikeonTV, on 04/29/2008, -1/+68Great for when you have to photoshop something while riding a bike!
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -3/+39OGC > OQO
- Adam420, on 04/29/2008, -0/+26Ha cool.
Iv wanted a OQO forever but they're still pretty expensive... - Ockniel, on 04/29/2008, -5/+29Why can't anybody ever talk into a camera with a normal voice?? auughhh "a a a a a a a annddd d d d d d d w e e e e'll do a l l l i it t tle te e e ch d e e monst r r ra tion h e e e re . . . ."
- chawkie, on 04/29/2008, -0/+21Cool concept, but you would think that a guy that could hack a OQO could learn to use a video camera.
- meghalc, on 04/29/2008, -2/+17Apple hardware is made by Asus! BTW Asus started out by making PC hardware before they got contracted by Apple. So, Mac is basically a PC hardware with a shiney white case.
- herrshuster, on 04/29/2008, -2/+16I see what you did there. You took ubuntu, and you replaced it with ucraptu. very neat, my friend.
- cthellis, on 04/29/2008, -0/+14Stop wasting brain cycles trying to think. You obviously don't have enough to spare after the mouth breathing.
- OSJunky, on 04/29/2008, -3/+16This is a sign of things to come. The fact that Apple hasn't gone after Psystar means that it is open market for these hackintoshes
http://9to5mac.com/hackintosh-mainstream - McMaster88, on 04/29/2008, -6/+18wait, isnt the iPhone the "smallest" mac?
- herrshuster, on 04/29/2008, -1/+12peeing snowman
- dcmjzero, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11that would ruin it: the battery would have to be as large as the rest of the computer. they used via for a reason.
- dcmjzero, on 04/29/2008, -5/+15can it run photoshop? ok, then.
- ckm1224, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11wow this is great stuff, windows and mac on a device that small.
- GiggleStick, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11How do you know he's not just VNCing into an actual Mac?
- cw1242, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8AUTOFOCUS!!!
- DeathGod321, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7How long does vista take to boot up?
- ChuckIT, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8or get the camera into focus ! they can hack all this stuff! but never get a camera in focus?!
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6He meant the fact that it was a dual boot, dummy.
- creole, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5Buried for the fuzzy video. You're telling me that this guy is smart enough to get Leopard running on a micro device, but can't learn to focus his video camera?
- XedLos, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1901656/OGC-unveil ...
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5But then Apple would go belly up since no one would buy the overpriced Apple hardware when they can get cheap PC hardware.
- MacTyler, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5yeah it will and its spelled, u-b-u-n-t-u
Yes everyone that is sarcasm! - FHKE, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5"The soul of Mac is Mac OS X..." - Steve Jobs
- sith333, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4actually, no.
- BSeffrood, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5Worlds smallest mac, and worlds crappiest video all in one post
- MacParrot, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Yes, the EULA states that OS X can only be installed on computers made by Apple. No one has tested this in court and I get the feeling that Apple is playing a wait and see game. Waiting to see what kind of response this gets and just how good the Psystar hardware is. I haven't seen one yet in person, but the few videos available show it to be pretty responsive though extremely loud.
Other things to consider. If your hard drive dies, you must send it back to Psystar for repair/replacement, though I wonder if you had used SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to clone the disk if you could just swap it out. Another thing to consider is whether or not Apple will break the hack in the next 10.5 update. You could end up with a machine that (temporarily anyway) can't go beyond 10.5.2.
What's ironic about this whole thing is that apparently Psystar is using OSX86's tricks to make this work. The guy who invented the hack (a Russian if I'm not mistaken) is pissed because his EULA for the hack states that it can't be used for commercial purposes. How about that? He's mad because someone broke his EULA to break Apple's EULA! - Jones105, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Can someone introduce him to the "Camera lens focus" hack?
- Dakk, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3But your post does and thus negates your comment. Sometimes wisdom is silence.
- 35263526, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3In my experience VNC isn't good enough to do compositing stuff. I know Vista's Remote Desktop can, but that's only because it cheats and has the client machine do compositing, and as far as I'm aware there isn't a non-Mac client that can replicate Quartz Extreme client-side, which'd have to be what was happening given that Coverflow in the video was smooth.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3My original observation still stands. You are a dummy.
- teabagginz, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3yeeeeeeeeeeaaahhhh ummm... i need you to go ahead and get me those TPS reports
- aliguana, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3running the OS doesn't make it a Mac.... what does then? The Apple logo on the designer case?
- Wickedboss, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3"The load time is about 2 and a half mins" Okay Nexxxxxxt!
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3If Apple did the cloning thing again it would kill them. But they already agree with you on one point, iLife is not bundled with MacOS X, it is bundled with a new machine. MacOS X and iLife are sold separately.
- MoofTheStoof, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4For some of us, the technology is he *reason* we're mac users. I was ready to move all my Apple hardware to PowerPC linux back around '98 because it seemed like Copland (look it up) would never become a reality and we'd be stuck with OS9 updates forever. Then Apple bought NeXT and announced they were retooling NeXTSTEP into the first modern Mac OS. That was enough to keep me interested, and I've not been disappointed, since. Ports like this OQO are great because I'm in it for the OS, and not necessarily wedded to Apple hardware as long as I can get a fully functional (including updates) OS X on third-party hardware.
- aliguana, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2... the sound of a million fanboys screaming in horror...
- grumpyrain, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Windows CE is not Windows. It is not at all related to the NT (or even 9x) kernel. It does not have the Windows API, so most of your Windows Apps simply won't work. In recent incarnations, it does support compact .NET.
XP Embedded is for all intents and purposes Windows XP. Now our embedded devices measure storage in Gigabytes the 32MB 'bloat' of XP embedded is probably not the issue it used to be. - falafelkiosken, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2where's that vacuum cleaner?
- ultrafez, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2How is your comment at all connected to MikeonTV's comment?
And also, Apple DO have entertainment software... what's Front Row then?
Or were you just failing at sarcasm? - herrshuster, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3turn your head sideways. it depicts a stick figure in the act of masturbating
- maninalift, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2JUst the similarity in logo? "snowman peeing" as herrshuster puts it.
And "QQ"? - Adam420, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Macbook Air is thinner than this...just not as small....and this isnt a "laptop"
- MacParrot, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3I imagine it will if whoever makes Crysis comes out with an OS X version.
- dcolley, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3The reason why the Mac Ads are so funny is because they are so true.
- MacParrot, on 04/29/2008, -2/+4Oh, cmon! This is cool no matter who makes the hardware.
- insllvn, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Under the hood, I suppose they are the same, albeit Apple doesn't really produce the sort of bargain machine I associate with, for example, Dell. What I was referring to was the overall quality and thought that goes into the devices. Yes this includes the attractive case, but it is also the luminescent apple logo, the magnetic battery cable, the multitouch trackpad (although I doubt this will remain Apple exclusive), the overall quality of the whole package. I have a Dell laptop and I love it. It does everything I need. It is wobbly after 2 1/2 years of use, scratched, dented, warped by heat, missing several of those rubber bits they put on the bottom, and cracks are beginning to form. I have never seen a Mac laptop in such condition, scientific I know. The whole Mac package is, on net, made of better stuff and better put together, not compared to evenly priced machines, but compared to the average. Apple caters to the elite market. That is what I meant. They ought to let someone else stoop so a better OS might conquer.
- InfiniteNothing, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2The man has a point. It can't really be considered a macintosh just because it runs OS X can it?
- customgamer, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2this is fake people
