- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+48Apparently the stores are just as easy to rob as the computers are to use.
- frimple, on 10/10/2007, -4/+41Thats horrible! *starts looking on ebay for cheap laptops in Tennessee*
- SirBotchness, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39Next to grace digg's frontpage. APPLE PRODUCTS DIRT CHEAP ON CRAIGSLIST NO BS!!!
- banty19, on 10/10/2007, -17/+39Apple's never been known for security.
Digg me down fanboys. - TheMu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26Why is the fact that $25,000 was able to be taken from the store in one minute a shock to anyone? It's not hard, considering that everything Apple sells is so damn expensive.
- Gandhilion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20well duh they took off with 25k in one minute, Mac stuff is so expensive.
- phuzed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16$25,000 worth of equipment? That's like only 6 new systems, right? I could heist 6 systems in under a minute too. Not THAT impressive.
- dpdesign, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Dugg down for not knowing burglarized is, in fact, a word.
- http://m-w.com/dictionary/burglarized - schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15And look who has just been mugged... http://feedblog.org/2007/08/27/greg-stein-director-of-the-apache-software-foundation-was-mugged-accepting-donations/
- DjOverEZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15And they say Apples don't have security problems.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Burgled would suffice.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9People like this are funny.
How would you feel if you found your friend using your stolen golf clubs when you hit the links?
Don't support thieves. Unless you like being stolen from, that is. - in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7How do you like them apples!
- usedupfag, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9They should have installed a firewall.. oh wait...
- jwesley78, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The story here is how bad crime has gotten around Memphis. It's gotten terrible over the past few years. I lived there for 6 years and had my house broken into once, and items stolen out of my garage on numerous other occasions. And also had my identity stolen once. It's crazy. Check out any crime statistic and you'll almost always see Memphis listed in the top 5.
- BuenoCabra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6All right! Memphis made it to the front page!
Let's see now... burglars... $25,000... police....
Crap. - CDoug03, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Thanks for watching NBC's To Catch an iPredator
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Apple steals from us every time we stare at the pricetag of the hardware compared to the likes of Dell and HP. Granted the Operating system is better but its the same damn hardware for a massive premium...
- akatherder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/burglarized
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4$19000 between the 7 computers...averaging 2k each....
One 24" and 6 blackbooks would have had to be the case. - u16085, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The phones are useless, who ever activates the imei flagged phones .. will have a nice surprise...
- drake89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4actually you've got a decent chance as this is the 3rd computer store to be burgled here in the last 6 weeks.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10"10 iPhones, one iMac and six MacBook laptops."
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4its a verb http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/burglarized
- cinder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dugg for that reason.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4why did i see this coming
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4FAIL.
- nukem996, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7It was a joke! Learn to laugh.
- Rekzai, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7$25,000?
So i'm guessing they took like 3 stuff.. - sukosaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ouch, guess it was all those "mugg me" white headphones!
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3that's what happens when you turn an electronic device into a status symbol. Same with sneakers - kids are mugging each other and stealing their sneakers, just because they're the latest brand/design. Or joyriders stealing the latest sports-model.
Apple can advertise their brand, fanboys and fangirls can bang on about how owning Apple stuff makes them "cool". But then there is a part of society who buy into that, but can't actually afford to buy it. So, they steal it.
Not saying its right, but you can understand it. - techresearcher, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5dugg
- justineatworld, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I miss the hamburglar
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I doubt they were using Apple gear to capture video from security cameras. Most likely it's from some OTS Security DVR most of which (depending on how long the video is set to capture before writing over older video) are in the 15-30 frames a second or less. Now multiply/divide that by the number of cameras inline and what the settings are for frame capture and the size of the hard drives being used to store the video for an estimate over frame rates.
Fun fact: Most Security DVR's are running some form of Linux and a few are running Windows. - Miniman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Sometimes.
- Desimat0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2In the UK, we use the word 'burgled' to the point where 'burglarized' isn't even known about, or used :)
- barbobot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Thieves respect property. They merely wish the property to become their property that they may more perfectly respect it.
GK Chesterton - Twoodge, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Incorrectly placed apostrophe's!
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And it's not just the retails stores either. There was a planned Apple warehouse burglary too:
http://cbs13.com/topstories/local_story_241193226.html - r3dl0c, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2King Willie, Says you don't like it. Get out. Oh wait. That was in Germantown. One of the safe places to live.
- mlerner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1$5 says they start using that hidden tracking feature to ban stolen items.. then cracked 10 minutes later.
- Fourbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's cellphones man. When Apple only sold computers and iPods there weren't as many robberies. Thieves love cellphones - and the iPhone is drawing them in. Too bad they are too stupid to know that you have to activate the thing to get it to work.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't need it anyway!
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1lol
- cambrown99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And that's just in the rich suburbs of Memphis! So glad I escaped that hellhole of a city... Only good thing about the city is that you get to point and laugh at the thousands of Elvis freaks that converge twice a year.
- Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1burglarized is now a word?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1buried
- BEDrocko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah.. i was expecting a picture of an actual wall of fire... now that would be cool.
- agaudet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ignorance
mac's do have security issues just like linux unix and windows
thats why security patches are released
if you think your safe on a mac you obviously know nothing about computers
they are man made and coded, they have flaws just like any other man made object -
