- Marku$, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20this is the same website that promised a special apple event on Feb. 20th.
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24they have been saying this forever. ThinkSecret is dead to me. They hardly get anything right. They are the ones who said Aperture was dead
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Riiiiight, like you know anything about it. Buy hey, good luck with the attitude
- Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think people seem to forget that when one company comes out with a "killer" product, rivaling companies don't just wave a white flag and go bankrupt. They compete with that product and try to make it better, faster, cheaper. It's a never-ending competition that benefits the consumer.
- butchog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Believable, except Thinksecret has been saying this for the last 3 years before NAB. Ill believe it when Apple actually announces it.
- Sprules04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm pretty sure that having the extension of "extreme" isn't really going to confuse anyone. Considering the fact this is $30,000 software.
- kida101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah because hardware is so easy to download off of bittorrent.
Sarcasm. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4PC Mag is one of the worst designed websites ever. I can't even read it because the sight of it makes me violently ill.
- dichter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51920x1600 MacBook Pro would be very nice indeed.....
- kida101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6FCP 6 or FCP Extreme or whatever they decide to call it, will be a serious problem for Avid.
Many TV shows and independent films opt for FCP due to it's price and ease of use. If Apple can deliver key features to this new version of the software, it could be the end for Avid in Hollywood. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I think it's a bad name for a product marketing wise to call it extreme these days.
On top of that, editors like having their top end product called "Pro" Extreme sounds lower end. Add in customer confusion over FCExpress. - obeythefist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7The article makes a lot of sense though. With the NAB event and the Red coming at the same time, I think this really is more than just rumor.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So? It's not exactly outdated yet, FCP5 still works fine, and if there's anything in FCP6 that you want/need, you can get the upgrade for a something like $50
Anyway, these Apple rumours are stupid, but a hardware accelerated NLE for $10,000 seems a little high, given that the Avid Mojo device is only $1000-2000, and Avid Xpress Pro HD is around $2000, which totally far under $10,000... Unless of course it's a dedicated box like the Avid Media Composer systems.. Aren't rumours informative.. - heythisisgandhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would like to see this happen, but editing the raw content of 4k totally isn't necessary. When Avid (or any other system) edits large format high-def, you digitize the footage then edit that scaled down footage. The program then creates a reference list (EDL) that a program uses to dub the actual high-def content itself, just like when editing 35mm. I don't see a need at all for editing those formats in their native form. The system requirements would be too ridiculous and at $30,000, I don't see anyone switching off Avid. If anyone can make a dent though, it's probably Apple.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, FCP is already fairly hardware-specific (Only runs on Mac hardware).. But, I assume it's either something like the Avid Mojo [ http://www.avid.com/products/dna/mojo/ ] or something like Avid Media Composer (Dedicated editing box) - It'd make sense, Apple seem to have the low-end (iMovie), middle (FC Express, Motion), to reasonably-high-end (FCP, Motion and Shake) covered, but nothing to rival the higher end Avid systems.
Hm, if Shake is included in the Final Cut Studio package, the only thing missing from it would be a 3D application - It would have been interesting if Apple had bough Maya (Although Autodesk seem to be doing interesting things with it, like the new dynamics solver they added to v8.5).. - itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's like Apple waits to release their new products until right after you bought one.
- thebman990, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Reply button?
- knuvue, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3I just bought a macbook pro, i refuse to read this :)
damn you apple. - deemadden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I really, really hope they're not going to cut me off by requiring a 64 bit system. I hope that's incorrect. That would totally suck, and make me really regret getting my MBP when I did (it's a Core Duo, not a C2D). Doesn't really sound as though there's much about the new version that I could take advantage of, but I'd still like the option of being able upgrade to it.
- magicmarc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This title looks similar to the output of that Apple hype generator posted earlier.
- Angelowner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The end of costly Avid machines is Neigh!
Now begins the reign of costly apple editing suites! - eznow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1End of Avid?
I doubt it, FCP6 v Avid DS
Bring it on. - Halleck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Final Cut Extreme eh? I guess Apple is finally going head-to-head with Avid in the high-end NLE market.
- marcosc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"My dad actually did some contracting with a company in Cupertino and someone there who did 'offhandedly' mention extreme was on the way".
Ok, perfect then. It's all settled.
/sarcasm - Lounger540, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I doubt it will REQUIRE a 64-bit CPU. They would be alienating every one who bought iMacs, Mac Books, and especially all the pro users who bought Mac Book Pros for the first 9 months. It's not like 32bit CPUs can't add 64bit numbers.
- Floris, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Sources inside my head said that they will release a 108" multi touch iphone that comes with 14 mac genius guys to assist live and help you cary it.
build in will be the mac hd system, it's new vista powered unix station that runs amd version of mac ox 11. Signed by bill gates who will switch to mac after retirement. .... don't say I didn't call it! think secret, thought up, and forgotten... rumors are nothing until I can buy it from apple.com; and only then I really care about it. - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I bought FCP5 last year :(
- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's saddening that you need to buy a more expensive license to get a version optimized for the computer you're using.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -2/+0Why would FCP 6 need to be hardware-specific? Unless Apple starts marketing dedicated editing workstations like companies do with Avid, they really only have 2-3 processors to optimize before, and a handful of powerful video cards.
Plus I also just bought FCP 5 and I'm suffering from that "Don't release a new version of the product after I buy it" syndrome. - fdelucio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I heard torrent some where
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2What do they mean it'll cost 10K? Is that what the one purchaser will pay for it before he puts it on bittorrent?
- ncaauwe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I think the $10-30K edit suite completely contradicts what Apple did with Final Cut Studio in the first place. Anyone can go watch the artist profiles on Apple.com/FinalCutStudio and get this. They killed the idea of these expensive editing workstations and the need to rent these things hourly. "You buy Final Cut Studio, and you're done." That's the beauty of it, I think. They are already making fantastic systems to run the current stuff anyway. Nothing is stopping them from designing their software to take full advantage of THEIR OWN HARDWARE, what would be the point of releasing something that is essentially the same as an Avid station? They're already turning the industry around, more and more hollywood releases are being edited in Final Cut Studio, both on their powerful desktop machines and their portables.
I also agree with some of the comments above in regards to why we need to edit 4k images natively. You're only looking at a 480p-sized frame or so in the editor anyway, so who the hell needs to work with a 4k image while EDITING? The Media Manager is there for this very reason; to create offline proxies so as to make everything managable when you're trying to get things cut together quickly.
I'm a hardcore Mac user, and even I'm getting sick of most Apple rumors these days. Seems everyone's just taking shots in the dark, so I don't really take anything for real until it comes out of Apple's mouth. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3agreed
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2My dad actually did some contracting with a company in Cupertino and someone there who did 'offhandedly' mention extreme was on the way. Dad always said, "you do a little digging, and you might hit gold in them hills."
- obeythefist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Will edit 2540p video captured from the Red Cinema camera (http://red.com/). That's better resolution than Apple's 30" display.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2eh, I have 1920x1200 on my 3 year old Dell 9100. apple is slow.
- flipmeat, on 10/12/2007, -23/+2Cool, FCP will be able to f*ck up sequences of unprecedented resolution and expense to shoot, much faster than before. I'm waiting for iMovie Extreme!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -25/+3The fact that you can digg or bury comments is ***** retarded.
