- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+232Hmm, sometime around 5PM?! You're caught, villain!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+201So much for Apple being more secure than Windows!
Sorry, I just had to say it. Digg me down if you must. :-) - drouk1556, on 10/12/2007, -7/+167$8,705 is a pretty big loss, especially in terms of iPods. I mean, thats equivalent to the cost maybe one Mac Pro.
- scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -5/+129Can't we just look for someone on ebay who has posted 42 different ipod nano listings or has a "buy it now" listing with a quantity of 42?
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -2/+115"The devices cost about $200 each and can hold up to 1,000 songs and 25,000 pictures."
Wow, blatant advertising anyone? - DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+85Maybe they should screw it onto the table next time... >_>
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+82@FTLJohnson
You've ruined the fun :( - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+78....What?
- incu_vamp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+76You never know, it could have been a she. The amount of things we women can stuff in our bras is outstanding.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60Relax, relax... everything's OK!
None of those iPods had any stolen music on them. - DiggUmFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+46How the hell did he just walk out with it? Seriously. Are the people in the store blind?
- MrSmartypants, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42"2-foot-by-2-foot Plexiglas display case"
They should look harder. Maybe it's sideways. 2' x 2' is pretty flat... - wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45@ ywong137 - I don't think someone would WANT to steal 42 Zunes.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Why do I have this sudden desire for *****????
- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35I really wanted to know how much the display case was worth!
- kirakun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28@secleinteer,
Or maybe that's what the police wants the thief to think. ;) - secleinteer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28@kirakun:
"All of the stolen items came with serial numbers, but none had been recorded before the theft." - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23not to mention door sensors?
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Ah, why did you get dugg down? Thats pretty funny. (See, real objects have 3 dimensions...so it should be like 2x2x2 or some other measurement. A 2x2 box would...bah never mind. People read this site too fast to think about it anyway.)
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Zune bashing is getting old, its about as popular as any other media player out there, just ask yourself, do you know anyone with anything BESIDES an iPod? I don't mean 256-4gb mp3 players or nanos, I mean the ones that Apple originated with, high storage 20gb-80gb players. I know probably 2 or 3 people who have a non-iPod player, compared to about 15 or so that have one, so when you say "Zune. You have to be kidding. Who has that?" you should keep in mind that every other player except the iPod is much less wanted.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20It'd be hilarious of the thief was dumb enough to put them all on ebay.
"L@@K! 42 iPod NANO! NEW! IN CASE! BULK!" - horanghee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22If someone stole a case of 42 Zunes, Universal would start suing grandmas and little girls for $42 (read $500,000) worth of damages.
- rumor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21@tricky,
that would be...uhm...Apple? - blackkbot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Is anyone looking for a 4 gig ipod nano? I need to get rid of them fast.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18PC is a pretty big guy. Plus, he has glasses. The robbers couldn't hit him.....
- r00ts, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20"No, they're just idiots, like anyone who has anything to do with Apple. Oh, Zing! Digg me down if you love *****!"
Thank you for feeding my blocklist! The last time it ate was.. when was it that anicejew started posting? - om3ganet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Even funnier if they sold them still in the Plexiglas case.. unopened!
- Theophany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@DiggUmFrog:
30' Apple Stores have, at peak hours, around 50-60 people in them. That's the smallest store. There are no sensors on the door, as 90% of product is kept behind the POS registers. As a former Apple Store employee, I can tell you we don't expect people to walk off with one of our display cases.
Though I feel really bad for the Specialists working at the time. I bet they're all getting reamed by their managers right now. It's one thing to not notice someone walking out during Holiday with a Macbook, but quite another to miss someone making off with a 42 Nano display. - rickshill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14used to work at apple. all product is scanned as it leaves the truck (usually DHL). Both the model numbers and the serial numbers of all products contained are on the outside of the box. The fact that the serial numbers are not recorded is impossible and obviously a feat by apple to try to get the guy to sync one of these things up on itunes, enter credit card info and get his ass caught, due to the fact that your product serial numbers are sent along with apple registration.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14he probably just wants 2 years of usage. i hope it works out :)
- 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I think the number was $90 for the 1Gs when they came out. There was a digg about it. So it might actually be closer to $10 than $249.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23If they had a firewall, this wouldn't have happened..........
I thought Mac had better security than PC??
Prepares to be dugg down for bad jokes by Apple fan boys. - Guard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@Kirakun
Who registers their iPod on iTunes store? I definately didn't. - 8177, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It's not like Tv. A good thief is calm and in the open. Employees looking for suspicouse people when the man in nice clothes and a smile walks outside with your monies
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@Yashar
Well, take 42 iPod nanos at 4GB, and multiply that by $199, and you get about: $8358 of potential sale, taken from right under their noses. - UhhWTF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Does anybody have a picture of this display case, so i can see what it looks like? ;-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Well I guess thats the question about life, the universe, and everything
How many iPods can you steal from an apple store without being noticed
42 - unit101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Seems to me like the thief would have had inside information considering that the box arrived the night before, was not locked down, and was not serialized... hmm...
- kittom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1042? Isn't that the answer to life, the universe, and everything? Freaky...
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"contained 42 of the new 4-gigabyte iPod nanos"
Douglas Adams gets his revenge after all. - bkraft, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"The devices cost about $200 each and can hold up to 1,000 songs and 25,000 pictures."
Did Steve Jobs write this article? I can't help but wonder what relevance the data storage ability of the nanos had to the actual story but it made me chuckle at the shameless-plug-factor - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7 Maybe he's going to wear them on his belt all at once.
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8kcpwnsgman, very good point. I know more people with non-ipod hdd jukeboxes, than i do with ipod hdd jukeboxes. sony, iriver, creative, and iaudio feature heavily. on the solid state front it's probably a close tie between ipods and mobile phones; the "kids" round here all favour the phone variety purely because of the built in speakers (albeit very bad quality ones), so they can force their special brand of ***** music on to every poor soul that isn't deaf yet. :)
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Way to go, Rick. Now you've just warned the perp.
-jcr - Nogger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7> the "kids" round here all favour the phone variety purely because of the built in speakers (albeit very bad quality ones)
My guess is they do not particulary favour them, they just do not have the money (and taste) for an iPod. The phone comes virtually free with their cell contract.
And "bad quality speakers" must be the understatement of the year. This things sound like someone is rattling a tin full of screws. But these guys are so pseudo-gangsta cool... - digggggggggg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I remember this one time someone asked me what a firewall was, so I answered sarcastically:
"Imagine a wall... now imagine the same wall, ON FIRE!!! Now wouldn't that be hard to get around??"
So yeah, they really could have used one :P - venicerocco, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17There's this thing that news people are kinda forced to accept: it has to HAPPEN before they can report it!*
*Fox News doesn't count. - rickshill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6only problem is that the new 4gig ipods do not come in black or white.
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6lol.. i thought the security at the regent street one (london, england) was bad! Whilst eyeing up purchasing my reconditioned 15" mbp earlier this year, a guy and a friend simply walked up to the reconditioned stand, grabbed 2 17" models, and walked out of the door calmly.
