- jonmlm, on 06/30/2009, -1/+25that's not really THE ultimate mac setup or even A setup. it's just 50 great app picks.
- Sfenton, on 06/30/2009, -6/+29Photoshop CS4 64 Bit only works on Windows.
- NathanCH, on 06/30/2009, -1/+24Automator is underrated and underused. Only recently I found I could resize, crop and create thumbnails for all my photos with just a few clicks.
- Balanced, on 06/30/2009, -0/+12This may be overkill for you, then.
- outaru, on 06/30/2009, -1/+10because creating actions is not simple until you get used to using it..
- serif69, on 06/30/2009, -4/+12Because if there's one thing photographers care about, it's a video game that came out two years ago.
- camaroz06, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8Oh god, one thing someone starting out doesn't need is multiple HDR programs...
- leamanc, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7Meh...I thought this would be hardware. Good list of apps, but you will only need about 10% of them to do anything and everything you ever wanted to do with photos.
- nmanguy, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6http://rorr.im/digg.com/apple/the_ultimate_mac_set ...
- theOster, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6lets not forget a talented photographer. equipment really doesnt do anythign except make it easier (quicker?) to get the result you want.
- 3zero3, on 06/30/2009, -6/+11Lightroom 2 isn't on the list, but Corel Painter IS? WTF.
- madduffy, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Lightroom 2 is the second thing on the list.
- iceperson, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3A good image manager is a must I think. I'd be lost without lightroom.
- hitkaiser, on 06/30/2009, -3/+6Rubbish
- ultrafez, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2A common misbelief is that having a digital camera makes you a photographer - I'm not accusing the OP of this but just bear it in mind...
- FredFredrickson, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3All you need is Photoshop CS4, running on any computer that runs it well (Mac, Win, or Linux). And a good camera. And a good eye for photography.
- Riggaberto, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3I'm a semi professional, so by ultimate, I thought they meant, you know, high end and professional. PS elements? Please.
- cawpin, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2It works fine...
- Algan, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2They forgot to mention DxO. No other tool can match it when it comes to lens distortion correction.
- Frost9999, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1As far as I can tell, anyone taking photos is a photographer.
- Runew0lf, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Semi professional and PS elements. Those words sound so wrong together, its like cat cheese.
- aristotle0dude, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1I have no need for Photoshop for most of my basic editing needs as they are mostly covered by Pixelmator. I do miss layer effects but other than that, it is a cheap and legal replacement for photoshop.
- theblacknight, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1ImageMagick is also underrated and underused because it also does those things with just a few keystrokes (and supports every format I've ever heard of or needed). To be fair though, the number of keystrokes (or clicks as for Automator) does not correlate with the steepness of the learning curve.
- raynar, on 06/30/2009, -2/+3what a crap post....its not a setup, its just ""w0w! get these l33t t00ls!". bunch of crap.
- superkendall, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Pano section did not include AutoPano Pro. After you get tired of screwing around with other programs, come use the best panoramic assembler around.. it has a ton of great correction tools too.
I used to use PanoTools, and Calico for a while... but really AutoPano pro is far better even if the interface is rather ugly. - nemodomi, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1I'm surprised no one's mentioned this http://macperformanceguide.com/ by now.
- FuzzyBunny, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Any serious photographer knows that your PC isn't where your money is going for hardware. Any PC built in the last 5 years with a decently calibrated monitor will work fine. When it comes to photography "hardware" means glass.
- fwertz, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Eh, a lot of that software can fit under many of the other genres too.
+ImageIngestor for batch processing - inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Pixelmator is amazing!!!
it's like the photoshop tools you need, in a retardedly fast package. - techdever, on 06/30/2009, -2/+3add another 30 incher to the setup and the menu shows only on the primary monitor
- verynegative, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1I thought this was going to be about hardware. There's no setup here. Buried.
- jcsoc, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1If it had been the hardware list it would have been "The Ultimate/Most Expensive Setup for Photographers"
- Rmo4, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1Yeah I think it's mostly underrated and underused because people, myself included, aren't very comfortable with it.
- zaferk, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1lolz.
too bad the mac fanboys are too busy digging you down while twittering about it, all the while in a starbucks - inactive, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1I'm pretty sure HP.
"the computer is impersonal again."
IC: impersonal computer.
http://www.hp.com/united-states/personal_again/ind ... - aristotle0dude, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1Have you tried using 32bit apps in 64bit windows? If the application is memory intensive, it will likely crash and burn pretty quickly from memory fragmentation. I speak from experience with VS.NET 2008 running under Win2k3 64bit Enterprise. You have to download a wrapper app that patches the memory fragmentation or VS will crash within minutes of use especially if you are also running the Management Studio for SQL 2005 at the same time.
With OS X, you can run 64bit and 32bit apps side by side. - dullnation, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1Don't forget sofortbild, a free tethering application for newer nikon cameras
http://www.sofortbildapp.com/ - bluefox9er, on 11/03/2009, -0/+0lightroom 2 is all you need...
- whoreable, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1Thread is a hipster magnet.
- benburkhart, on 06/30/2009, -0/+0photoshop has a lens correction tool?
- amolkold, on 06/30/2009, -2/+1Damn, I thought this would tell me something I didn't already know.
- benburkhart, on 06/30/2009, -1/+0dugg down for not including adobe bridge for file management
- bradleyland, on 06/30/2009, -2/+1You guys really find Automator hard to use? The actions are classified by application, which I'd think is pretty easy to grasp. Want to work with files? Finder. Want to work with images/PDFs? Preview. Click the app, drag the action, set the options.
It's dead simple. - nourayehia, on 06/30/2009, -4/+3Definitely useful post, it’s worth trying out a few of these before settling on one.
- scy1192, on 06/30/2009, -2/+1http://rorr.im/

Cool find! I'm looking to get my first digital camera this year so cheers for this! :-) - inactive, on 06/30/2009, -8/+6Macs suck. Unified menus on any 30+ inch screen just plain sucks. especially when you want to have two apps side by side. Plus - each iteration of the OS seems buggier and buggier.
- nmanguy, on 06/30/2009, -4/+2How else will they compare the realism of their photos? Or something.
- iceperson, on 06/30/2009, -5/+2I've added a Dell Mini 9 running OSX to my bag.
