- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -4/+14Welcome. Glad to see you've come over from the dark side.

- samssf, on 12/31/2007, -2/+10Congrats! I made the switch a few months ago and couldn't be happier. You'll love it =)
- myztero, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5Bought the same configuration as yours back in August. It was my first Mac. Based on my experience, you have made an excellent computing choice. I love my iMac!
- rojano17, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7Congrats mate, this is one decision you won't regret
- tyywebb, on 12/31/2007, -1/+9Here's a couple sites that should be helpful when it arrives : )

http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/- SebHughes, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Thanks.
- Verdanic, on 12/31/2007, -1/+19Wow. This is the very first time I've ever seen show of sarcasm-free, positive, helpful, congratulatory comments having to do with.. anything.. that wasn't buried to hell.
- TheWorm, on 12/31/2007, -7/+12I have 3 macs, and love them, but could you guys PLEASE stop circle jerking each other?
- happyseamonster, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1u jealous?
- SebHughes, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I can't wait for it too arrive. Is iLife 08 worth the muhla?
- SebHughes, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I mean iWork.
- avihappy, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2Well, if you have to do anything powerful, then No. But if you need simply a _good_ office suite with good features then yes. You can get the trial here, see if you like it: http://www.apple.com/iwork/trial/
- Narfmaster, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1I completely dig iWork, but I agree on how it's somewhat underpowered. Unless you're doing things like macros, mail merge etc. then it's worth going for it and keeping Office off your Mac- It's horribly slow.
- SebHughes, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I mean iWork.
- Commodore84, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Too bad you got raped on RAM. Never buy RAM directly from Apple or any PC manufacturer for that matter.
- schoate09, on 12/31/2007, -46/+81. I don't care that you're excited.
- Ataxia87, on 12/31/2007, -11/+1Why should you need to tweak Leopard? I thought macs "Just work"?
- luchid, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Tweaking... not "fixing"... you can tweak certain aspects of it to better suit your needs...
- peaceninja, on 01/01/2008, -3/+0"If everything on a Mac just works, then why does a website called 'Mac fix it' exist"?
-Maddox, the best page in the universe- ripdog, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2Mac users everywhere /facepalmed upon reading that junk. I don't know who to blame, Apple for the BS advertising or Maddox (and Mac haters everywhere) for deliberately acting retarded.
- peaceninja, on 01/01/2008, -3/+0"If everything on a Mac just works, then why does a website called 'Mac fix it' exist"?

- condormcs, on 01/01/2008, -4/+2my mac will arrive too, just as soon as I win the loterry! (it's funny cause its kinda true!)
- Boondoggle, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2Well you've lost the spelling lottery, but good luck on the next one.

- digitalpencil, on 12/31/2007, -12/+6Nothing new.. stack overlays, quicklook plugins and 2D/3D dock switching.. but a good collection of links all the same & there's a handy zip of automator actions at the bottom.

(this comment is just a joke & is in no way derogatory towards Apple or OS x Leopard. I Love my Mac book!)- meatmcguffin, on 12/31/2007, -2/+18That was a joke?
- DarkPrince11, on 12/31/2007, -6/+1Yea, You know, a leopard has spots? and Leopard can't change it's spots.
- tian2992, on 12/31/2007, -3/+3you trashed it totally when you said "is's just a joke..."
- SirBotchness, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6Yea cause anything derogatory toward apple means your immediate expulsion from the cult. Wouldn't want that to happen.
- ORBAT, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Excommunicated, that is.
- cardyology, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Exactly.

- Dubbsacc, on 12/31/2007, -27/+7Buried. Inaccurate. It just works. No tweaking needed.
- noahhoward, on 12/31/2007, -5/+3Idiot.
- ekula, on 12/31/2007, -3/+1It does just work.
But this might make it work better for some. - Konstantino, on 12/31/2007, -5/+3...Seriously, this is what I hate about fanboys.
- alperea, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1"No matter how good Apple Mac OS X Leopard is, there will always be features that people dislike, and want to change." - fanboyish description too. Of course people want to customize their OS, what the ***** do you think?
- Dubbsacc, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7I guess I need my /sarcasm tag.
Definitely not a fanboy, but I do understand that everything needs to be tweaked to everyone's liking. I was picking on blind fanboy's with my comment, yet I get painted as one. :(- chugger1992, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1you use /mock in this case, as your statement was not sarcasm
- Dubbsacc, on 12/31/2007, -2/+1Thanks, I'll try that next time.
- chugger1992, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1you use /mock in this case, as your statement was not sarcasm
- cptsmidge, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Most of the features work, but I have problems with my Airport, making the internet almost impossible to access. It's really frustrating. I think it get fixed in the new patch, but that's probably just wishful thinking. Let's hope that when I find a working mirror, I can find a solution.
- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -3/+3Damn straight. Leopard rocks. OS X rocks. Windows blows donkey wangs.
- kalphegor, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1No, if you make it look like it's Windows.
- ekula, on 12/31/2007, -12/+5It's all been seen before, but it's a nice concise collection.
Dugg - bpeacock22, on 12/31/2007, -12/+2Site down with 70 diggs. Sad panda.

- 2shae, on 12/31/2007, -2/+4It's not funny anymore you dick
- iDiggIt42, on 12/31/2007, -1/+3That wasn't very subtle or well-timed.
- Sohosoutherner, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Pain.......lots of pain....
- turnlikeawheel, on 12/31/2007, -10/+39So why are you people still digging it if you can't even read it?
- ahvi, on 12/31/2007, -5/+31Apple...
- GOVStooge, on 12/31/2007, -6/+22so we can find it later... DUH!! :P
- dagamer34, on 12/31/2007, -7/+19Think of it as a bookmark for later.
- thunderer, on 12/31/2007, -4/+15You see, that's the beauty of bookmarks. You can bookmark things by, well, bookmarking them.
- turnlikeawheel, on 12/31/2007, -17/+11You're supposed to digg a story when you like it. It's like a vote. It's not a bookmarking service.
- virtualball, on 12/31/2007, -3/+11Well, they could be digging it for later, and then undigging it if they don't like it after reading it ;)
- Tippis, on 12/31/2007, -1/+10Welcome to the internet, where "supposed to" has long been supplanted by "I do what works for me". Have a nice stay.
- donte, on 12/31/2007, -2/+3"No matter how good Digg is, there will always be features that people dislike, and want to change. And while Digg may think they have the perfect recipe for a perfect news site, many power-users will want to tweak Digg to their liking."
The description is pretty much a universal truth. Deal with it.
- Tippis, on 12/31/2007, -3/+11To read it later.
- Canuck, on 12/31/2007, -3/+9So we can find it later. If Digg had an option to flag a site as "read it later" which would add it to my list so that I can read it when I'm at home I would use that.
- KidVicious, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5Digg *is* a "social bookmarking" site...
- zongamin, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1It workls fine dickwad.
- momsshizzle, on 12/31/2007, -32/+5Where's the "Format Leopard and install Windows Instead" section?
- GOVStooge, on 12/31/2007, -3/+14It's called the "Gimme a virus" Button
- cwa107, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5Right next to your anal lube bookmark.
- Ataxia87, on 12/31/2007, -2/+1Doesn't lube come with all macs for use with the mighty mouse? I bet you're glad it has a cable attached aye!
- MacParrot, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Or you could just NOT be a dumbass and get any USB mouse that's out there. Plug it in and it works.
- mikeraiwet, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Or go wireless... wireless sounds pretty good right now, huh?

- rootnik, on 12/31/2007, -6/+15The site is down, but here is my contribution of the day:
http://www.macworld.com/article/53471/2006/10/slee ...
Free up about 2gb of hard drive space (its actually equal to the amount of ram installed), and improve the the speed of sleep/wake by changing the sleep mode with terminal.
There are some down sides to this (losing unsaved data during a power loss), read the article for more info.- dagaz, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1You can also visit this blog (http://www.jinx.de/weblog/weblog.html) and download a preference pane called 'Hibernate' that will do the same thing without having to remember the Unix code for it. I'm all for using the terminal, but this is one command I can't see myself using too often.
- bloaty, on 12/31/2007, -3/+1If you try this BEWARE!!!
JUST DONT TAKE OUT THE BATTERY IN SLEEP MODE!!!
Last christmas when I got my brand new MacBook I was at my grandparents farm, miles away from the nearest Apple store.
Long story short, I did this hack and then took out the battery which caused a grey screen of death to appear!
Stuck on a farm for two weeks with a brand new broken MacBook!!!
I got to the Apple store and it turns out that all I needed to do was hold down V to boot in verbose mode! They should have put that in the manual!
This year I got Leopard and 2Gigs of RAM!!! SOOO FAST!!!
Now I know A LOT MORE and was able to boot into the Open Firmware Mode to fix Leopard after I screwed it up again adding the iTunes like scrollbar mod! Go Figure!
No matter how many times I screw stuff up I always have fun fixing it!

- nanousr, on 12/31/2007, -6/+80"No matter how good Apple Mac OS X Leopard is, there will always be features that people dislike, and want to change. And while Apple may think they have the perfect recipe for a perfect OS, many power-users will want to tweak OS X to their liking. They want to change more than their desktop image, or the icons in their dock. Sometimes Apple doesn’t always make it easy to tweak your Mac, so Appletell has compiled a list of several ways to tweak your Leopard.
The Dock
Dock Doctor: Ever since Steve Jobs announced the 3D Leopard Dock at WWDC, there has been some mild skepticism to say the least. DockDoctor allows you to easily switch between the 2D and the 3D Leopard dock whether you have the dock on the bottom or the sides of your screen.
DockColor: If you actually like the 3D dock, there are many ways to tweak it exactly to your liking. DockColor is a small app with a very simple interface. It allows you to easily change the color of your 3D dock to suit your desire.
Leopardocks.com and Dockulicious.com: If you really want to go all the way, these two websites are for you. They are filled with hundreds of different docks (both vertical and horizontal), and allow you to easily install the docks, or even switch back to the original.
Stacks
Stack Drawers: Stacks are supposed to un-clutter your desktop, but sometimes, it is hard to distinguish one stack from another. Stack Drawers are little overlays, that help you to organize all of your stacks, and actualy make Stacks a whole lot more useful.
Stacks In Da Place: The perfect companion to Stack Drawers, Stacks In Da Place lets you make any icon of your choosing an overlay of any of your stacks. It automatically detects all your Stacks, and let you drag any icon to become a stack overlay.
Quay: Many Mac OS X users complained when Apple took away the functionality in Leopard of navigating a folders heirchy from the Dock. Quay is a little app that allows you to re-add this functionality in Leopard.
Recent Items Stack: This is a simple terminal command that adds a Stack to your Dock that has the 10 most recent documents, applications, or servers. Simply type the terminal cpmmand, and then type “killall Dock” and the Stack will be added to your Dock.
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add ‘{ “tile-data” = { “list-type” = 1; }; “tile-type” = “recents-tile”; }’
The Menu Bar
OpaqueMenuBar: One of the most controversial “features” of Leopard is the slightly transparent menu bar. Some find it distracting, and others find it pointless. OpaqueMenuBar makes your Leopard menu bar solid like back in Tiger.
Leo ColorBar: If you don’t want your menu bar a simple opaque, you can make it as colorful as you want. A red, green, blue, or yellow menu bar may now sound that appealing, but if you can do it, why not?
Icons
Candybar 3: Candybar is the greatest application for changing icons on the Mac. While it is shareware, there is a free, fully functional trial, and it is really worth the cost of admission.
IconFactory: Partnering with CandyBar, IconFactory is a great resource for free Mac icons that can be used to replace Apple’s defaults, or even for special folders. And it integrates seamlessly with CandyBar.
Login Window
Visage Login: This is a really cool app that allows you total customization over your login window. You can change the background image, add an icon, change the name, and even choose specific information to display.
DefaultDesktop.jpg: If you prefer to do things the old fashioned way, you can simple replace the image located at /System/Library/CoreServices/DeafaultDesktop.jpg and the next time you log in, it will be set to your background to your customized image.
iChat
Chax: Chax is the ultimate plugin for iChat. It adds a ton of functionality to iChat, like a unified Contact list, Screensaver away messages, Growl messages, and auto-accepting of chat invites. If you are a hard-core iChat user, Chax is really a must-have.
More iChat Effects: iChat comes with some pretty niffty effects, but if you want to be a hologram from Star Wars, or the Statue of Liberty, MoreiChatEffects is a fun addition to the many effects that come with iChat.
QuartzEffects.com: This website is a community dedicated to coming out with new iChat effects and plugins. They have some very active forums, with many users making Quartz designs for iChat effects.
QuickLook
Folder QuickLook Plugin: QuickLook is undoubtedly one of the coolest features in Leopard. This plugin is easy to install, and allows you to use QuickLook to see inside folders.
Zip QuickLook Plugin: Another QuickLook plugin that actually allows you to see the files inside Zip files without even opening them. Very handy.
Other
Displaperture: Another feature that was removed in Leopard, but was previously in Tiger was the rounded look of the corners. Dispalperture is a background process that allows you to round the corners of your screen to regain rounded look that was in Tiger.
fonts500: Not specifically a Leopard tweak, but handy nonetheless, fonts500.com is a great website with 500 high-quality free fonts. If you are ever looking for a way to jazz up a document on your Mac, fonts500 is a great place to look for some cool fonts.
InterfaceLift InterfaceLift is one of the greatest sites for tweaking your machine, whether you are on a PC or a Mac. They have thousands of free icons, desktops, and themes for Mac and PCs alike, and are constantly being updated.
Extra
Leopard Scripts [Direct Link]: As an extra, we have compiled over 30 Automator actions specifically designed to enhance your Leopard experience, and make Leopard work in exactly the way you want it to."- indraneel24, on 12/31/2007, -2/+4*****, double post. digg mine (below) down.

Very handy.
Other

Extra
Leopard Scripts [Direct Link]: As an extra, we have compiled over 30 Automator actions specifically designed to enhance your Leopard experience, and make Leopard work in exactly the way you want it to.- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -3/+1Dugg down for being WAY too long.
- kreatre2007, on 12/31/2007, -1/+2I'm all for personalizing Mac OS X to make it even easier but you should be careful with Leopard. It doesn't seem to like being tweaked as much as previous versions of Mac OS X. As far as I've gone myself is to change the colour and darkness of the dock. If you go to http://www.leoparddocks.com you can find some great dock replacements and an Automater script that will help you change the dock.
- Soar, on 12/31/2007, -7/+1Lawl, the server is not responding due to huge amounts of traffic from digg.
- Ramble, on 12/31/2007, -1/+28This isn't proper tweaking, it's just interface theming.
- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -7/+1Tips for making the best better-what could be better? Windows sucks.
- bordo, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know how to remove the "more" option from the bottom of the right-click context menu in finder? I want everything in the right-click menu to be in the same place, but cannot figure out how to get rid of "more".
- DJMac317, on 12/31/2007, -2/+1Check out DochChanger, it's the easiest way to change the color and styple of the dock: http://www.whimsplucky.com/DockChanger.zip
- RealHyperX, on 12/31/2007, -12/+2Unified menus on a Mac SUCK! Especially when you get a larger monitor. Running two apps side by side is ridiculous. I wish someone would ties menus to each app - I would go back to a Mac then. For now, forget it! Sticking with windows.
- nycmac247, on 12/31/2007, -1/+11Give me the ***** "tweak" I want --- the .2 update!!!!
- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -11/+1Go back to windows if you are so unhappy.
- max1018, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6No, I want .2 to fix my wireless :(
- pyrates, on 12/31/2007, -3/+2So if he doesn't like leopard the way steve jobs says leopard should be, he should go back to windows. Wow, mac fan boys will defend anything bad that is said about Apple.
- Kypt, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Hrmmm, I think that was from an MS fanboy. Kinda like all apple fanboys say "get a mac" when windows guys are unhappy...
- Tippis, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Yes. God forbit that Apple release bugfixes and feature updates.
Idiot. - Verdanic, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1It's not much better in the Windows camp. Not if you're on the latest..
- chesscat, on 12/31/2007, -11/+1Go back to windows if you are so unhappy.
- serff, on 12/31/2007, -0/+0The QuickLook plugins are awesome! Thanks!
- falafelkiosken, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Digg is the most successful tool for DDoSing ever ;(
- Prod_Deity, on 12/31/2007, -5/+3I have had Leopard for about a month now, and I'm not really impressed with the new updates.
Stacks is a good idea, the new look of the dock is iffy, and spaces is alright.
Even with the new features, I, personally, do not see a reason to upgrade to 10.5 yet.
I miss apps & settings that I had in Tiger that are now 100% incompatible from now on due to Apple tweaking what seems like the entire system, or at least from a UI perspective.
For the time being, I'll stick to Tiger.
I'll either upgrade when I absolutely have to, or when my G4 mini is unsupported, I'll move to Linux. - jbaringer, on 12/31/2007, -0/+0anyone have a working mirror?
- jimiyo, on 12/31/2007, -5/+1i thought macs were supposed to be perfect right out the box? ive had many zombies tell me 'i take it out the box, and i just turn it on.'
- zongamin, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Correct - this article simply shows you a few interfaces changes you can make depending on your preferences.

- BooshTukka, on 12/31/2007, -1/+1Why is it whenever you want to copy and paste some code from a website these days, it has pretty apostrophes and double quotes that don't actually work in the environment you want to use them in? I can only assume that - a) these people don't proofread or test what they post, and b) they write everything in Word and copy and paste it from there.
So, yeah, it's actually:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }' - kcwyckoff, on 12/31/2007, -0/+0its working now
- digitallysick, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Humm seems all mostly visual and not much of a tweak, a tweak would be a way to speed it up/performance gain/special function. But i admit i like the stack overlay idea, i will check it out, and my modified leopard dock looks good to
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 01/01/2008, -2/+1That was cool. Man, how do you find this stuff... This may have converted me to Apple once and for all!
- cappslite, on 01/01/2008, -5/+1These are people who obviously have wayyy too much time on their hands...
- Smift, on 01/01/2008, -0/+3Why the ***** does it mean that you have too much time on your hands because you want to make your mac work better and SAVE time.. god those are the most useless comments on the ***** intarnets.. it is starting to annoy me so much.. i mean every time someone has put a little effort into something there are immedeately 10 posts about their lack of meaningful useage of time, ***** man what meaningful thing did you do today anyhoo? bah..
- DeathGod321, on 01/01/2008, -3/+1Buried as inaccurate, macs are supposed to just work.
Alright, on a more serious note, I actually read it even if I don't use a mac because I like to learn about all operating systems. That includes Ubuntu, which is talked about here so much that I'm surprised it doesn't have it's own spellcheck entry. - lfroker, on 01/01/2008, -1/+2does anyone know what species of leopard the new macs come with? cause i was really hoping for an African Leopard.
- tomis, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Site's down, just go to http://www.macosxhints.com/ , seams to be where most of these blogs rip their tweaks from anyway.
- tonyadam, on 01/02/2008, -1/+0Chax rocks! I actually switched back to iChat tonight
