- moiety, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Meh. http://osx.iusethis.com has a far superior database of apps.
- sl33stak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Meh, It's an "OK" list. Not very comprehensive. No Digg
- hlynch1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12boo no adium :-(
- czer323, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11http://duggmirror.com/apple/The_ULTIMATE_Mac_Apps_List/
- fak3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10No digg, how many of these 'Ultimate OS X apps' lists do we need to see?
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is a first for me on a web server
"This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota"
I guess the digg effect hit this site much faster than the poor guys account would handle. - gertikus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Didn't we have another "Ultimate Mac Software List" on the front page a couple of weeks ago?
http://digg.com/apple/The_Ultimate_Mac_Software_List
To be fair, the other one had more useful stuff. Even if this one is aesthetically more pleasing... No digg. - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://www.coolosxapps.net/
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5not much to see here. if you have seen one 'top mac apps' list you've seen them all.
the unusual suspects on this list are:
Yojimbo, Pzizz, Garage Sale - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5relax, the site doesn't even scrape the surface on what is out there. go to apple's software site site, its pretty comprehensive
click the apple in the upper left of your screen > Mac OS X Software - matus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Thanks god it's just an ULTIMATE, and not another "AWESOME!!! TOP 10 OF THE GREATEST MAC APPS OF ALL THE TIME" topic.
- ridgelawrence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8http://duggmirror.com/apple/The_ULTIMATE_Mac_Apps_List
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ultimate list? As in last? There won't be another one?
Deal! - dpollitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cputerace - you call 44 Diggs 'getting dugg'? I could put up a link to google.com and probably get more then 44 diggs.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Transmit is better, but Cyberduck is free/opensource and it serves its purpose.
- praetorianx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nice list, I like the animations.
- allanpat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lots of people here complaining, but i always love these OS X app lists on digg. While I already know most of them, there's usually 2 or 3 that are new to me.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm going to post this link next week so I can get to the front page
- n1ko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the more the merrier. no?
- krewenki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not much (any?) free software on there. Instead of transmit, why not go for CyberDuck? I loves the duck.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I do freelance projects and use something like this (I wrote my own in Java.. works on both my PC and Macs and saves to my server). Most freelancers I know do their work on a Mac and use Excel or something to keep track of their time. I'm sure people will use this more than "Yep".
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just look at "Weekly Popular" on MacUpdate.
- derherr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ditto. http://adiumx.com rocks! It's the best multiprotocol IM client out there, bar none.
- Royal0rleans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yay for bluehost
but not for "suspended" - djjuice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they never mention Pith Helmet which is the best for safari for blocking ads, not as nice as adblock for firefox, but it gets the job done well.
- krewenki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, VLC is free, and i've never used voodoo pad. Transmission and appzapper, who would ever want to "break" a trial, or a demo, so it seemed as though it was a fully registered copy? :)
In all seriousness though, i'm willing to bet that a decent portion of those applications have freeware equivs, that just aren't as well known. - samuel514, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2another list.... you better go buy more bandwidth ! :)
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry, but this list redefines the word "Ultimate" in an unacceptable way.
This is a list of software you could *easily* live without. The list on Apple's website is much more Ultimate ... and not all overpriced. Undig. - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Shared hosting is a joke. You can get a dedicated server or colocate a server for so cheap any more.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3voodoopad lite is freeware, great app - couldn't live without it.
transmission, appzapper is free if you know how, and of course VLC is free.
but yea, like windows macs have an over abundance of shareware and pay apps. thankfully their BSD code allows for many open source projects via darwin/fink. - gervase, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'll second the AppZapper reference, but how many people would really use OnTheJob?
(serious question, I'm just curious because it doesn't seem like an app that many would have a use for) - czer323, on 10/12/2007, -1/+344 digs and you die! I suppose that happened too quick for a digg mirror?
- chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good grief, that's like $160 worth of shareware there.
- landmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Christ, this exact post must come up on Digg at least once a week. I use a Mac. It was a very handy post first time but it's really ***** boring now.
- sancho320, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I actually use WorkTimer for many of my projects, but it does not have too many features. I am interested what else OnTheJob offers.
- lumbergh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would remove CrossOver Mac (too beta-y) and add Adium (how the f*ck did he miss that one?!?!?! it's like the best chat client for any platform ever), Colloquy (best IRC client ever), XTorrent (xtorrentp2p.com, best bittorrent client ever, just released) and Cyberduck (free, unlike Transmit, although Transmit is also nice).
- abwesth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ultimate Mac freeware-apps list would be nice :)
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gharding:
That sounds really useful, any chance you might publicly release it? - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Windows utilities free? Hardly. The vast majority of the useful ones I find to fit my needs are not only pay-for apps, but they're usually overpriced too.
And sifting through all the crap (both the freebies and the shareware) for Windows is a major pain. People trumpet the greater number of freeware/shareware apps available on Windows but fail to mention that the vast majority of them suck.
Mac shareware > PC shareware, if in your view quality > quantity. Per my experience. - n1ko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Quick silver is on the Add-Ons Page here: macnewsonline.com/wp/the-ultimate-mac-add-ons-list/
- n1ko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://macnewsonline.com/wp/the-ultimate-mac-add-ons-list/
- cedrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hate mac, love the list. i might just get a mac now...
- Stelex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A list of about 100 'essential' applications for OS X
http://www.silvermac.com/most-popular-mac-os-x-applications/ - egret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Quicksilver is on their add-ons list, linked at the bottom of the page.
- asdren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just when I was about to roll my eyes at yet another mac app list...
they surprise me with a nice design and ajax++
but quicksilver should be on all of these lists
http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/ - nullvector, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The difference between this and many Windows lists....These are mostly shareware, or priced software. Windows utilities are mostly free, and in larger abundance.
Not to take away anything from these apps...because they are great. But many of them I won't try, because theyre not free. - macsroxr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's PTHPasteboard http://pth.com/products/pthpasteboard
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2much longer than i expected it to be.
- withears, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6These ultimate lists are *****. Buried.
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What crap. There was a list like two weeks ago already. I marked that as inaccurate too. Why don't people just google for the software they need? Or go to a site that keeps up with that, why do you have to post it on Digg and WHY does it have to show up as one of the top headlines on my Google home page?
