- Tyr7BE, on 10/10/2007, -11/+54Wtf is this. It's a rectangle with rounded corners and a copy-paste of a coverflow screenshot. OOOOH! OOOOOOOOH! DIGG IT! DIGG IT FASTER!
- TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -2/+41I would be shocked if Apple finds a way to put out a completely touch sensitive iPod, with 30GB of space while remaining as thin, and retained the same price point.
- kazimir34, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33That *would* be an awesome iPod.
- battletops, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31That's gonna make a hard reset REALLY difficult. I want an iPod with at least two different buttons for a reset (like the iPhone), but I would prefer to have three physical buttons for track selection and play/pause. This is a mock-up I made: http://www.mabuhaynet.com/images/newipod.jpg
- ncapone, on 10/10/2007, -7/+35Dugg for David Bowie.
- tlgjames, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27Why do we dig up these worthless articles about things that people "THINK" they'll look like.
- JDoorjam, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24I don't know, it can't be a good sign that the battery on the _mock-up_ is almost dead.
- InitialDMP5, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20the problem with an all touch sensitive iPod is for people like me who do a lot of walking and have the iPod in a pocket or bag. I love sticking my hand into my pocket and hitting next on the click wheel to skip a song. I even somewhat have enough click memory in my brain to get back to the playlist page of the ipod without looking at it. I can't do that with an all touch iPod. I wouldn't know where anything was at. While it looks amazing, and the idea seems cool, I just don't see it working for a full blown iPod. Which is part of the problem I have with the iPhone.
If there was some kind of controller built into the earbud cord as a standard and not an option, that could work, but then it really defeats the purpose.
Unless this is just apples way of making sure you HAVE to pull out your iPod so that people can stare and lust. - Radan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16I really don't get it why everyone who points this out gets dugged down. Just face it. Apple is not going to release an iPod which will compete with the iPhone, especially not before it gets released in Europe. Personally, I doubt that they will even release a touchscreen iPod, though, it will be interesting to see how they are going to handle the whole screen part. Knowing Apple right, I guess as usual they will come up with something that no one else has even thought about.
- awhiteflame, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I'm carrying an iPod for christ sake. I don't want to carry around a remote for my .. iPod.
- Zbrah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11I'm not sure how to explain this, but I think it would be awesome if the new Ipod was a touch screen(like the iPhone) but when you touch it,the screen "splits" and a scroll wheel appears...a few seconds after selecting the song or video and it reverts back to full screen. Or maybe they could still have cover flow but have this as an option...?? I guess, deep inside, I'm just not ready to fully let go of the good ol scroll wheel.
- rabbro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I really don't appreciate the tagline "Hold me, touch me, lick me" next to a picture of David Bowie...but otherwise, very nice :D
- diamondg14, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Or just keep using your current iPod.
- thetreat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9worst mock up ever. it's an iphone. thats it.
- dustinmacdonald, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9You guys are going to be so disappointed next week.
- Jawsh91, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm still wondering what they'll do with the iPod games without a scroll wheel
- richjwild, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Here's my 6G iPod mock-up, based on the design of the new iMac:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/849/ipod6gconceptby9.png - FIip, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Solution:
Bluetooth remote. Think second-generation Shuffle, except without any internal memory. - Narfmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'd probably go for one of those over the full touch iPod as well. Physical buttons make it much easier to use the thing without looking.
- Narfmaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Just...
no. - Jawsh91, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nerd.
- Narfmaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4STOP TRASHING OUR HOPES D:
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You know you do make a good point, I do this regularly, just have my ipod in my pocket, and when I want to turn the volume up, or skip a song, I can do it by sliding my finger on the scroll wheel, right thru my pocket, or hit the button thru my pocket.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4iPods run $250, and $350. Sucks to be your broke ass.
- raymore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I wonder if your tongue would actually work on the touchscreen of that iPod. God knows I would test it, all night long.
- andy2na, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iphone with 48 gb: for use as PHONE
iPod touch with 30-80 gb: for use as MUSIC PLAYER
releasing an ipod with similarities wont drive sales away from iPhone. It will just help apple's stock and profit, those who wanted an iphone by now, would have gotten one. - tetfsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*WHEN* it freezes...
- soopafly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm gonna put that comment in the same drawer as "But will it blend??" and "...Priceless"
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Put those buttons on the side instead. Make one a rocker type switch for forward/backward track.
- Jholder112233, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ever heard of a small little place I like to call EUROPE?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3haha, he said Zune.
- chinolofus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2shouldnt that have been the first one in the drawer?
- jetsetter883, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1being that this is an Apple product, how's the functionality..?
- soopertoll, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It would suck not to be able to klick the "next" button "blind" in my pocket while walking around or making sports. And blind people would have a problem too.
- maxmiles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dude, that's why the mockup HAS one button. Look at it. Just like the iPhone. I don't like it, but the way, but it's there.
- darkmotion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1:S How would you reset the thing if it freezes?
- batmant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Here's why you don't want this to happen. If Apple gives you the iPod functionality from the iPhone, they will be forced to keep the iPhone at a higher price point to show differentiation. They can't lower the iPhone's price tag without cannibalizing iPod sales (if the two shared all this functionality).
- morphie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's funny (or not) that everone is pulling down this mockup, while it has the most votes in the poll. It think this mockup is pretty much what Apple is going to release.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3stupid gizmodo spam!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's connected by the USB/FireWire port, why wouldn't it work on every iPod that uses a dock?
- ummagummas08, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Seriously, I don't mind stories like this, as long as theres something NEW in it. This looks just like an iPhone, and iPhones even have this view on them.
This is just retarded.
Buried. - Xeworlebi, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1The only problem is that real buttons take space, witch means: Or bigger device or smaller screen or sliding things for more space to put real buttons.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"it's impossible to hit the correct button while the thing is strapped to your arm and your jogging, riding, or what have you" --- You see, the big iPod is not the right device for these activities. A Nano or Shuffle, with solid state memory makes more sense and I believe they will continue to have buttons. The big iPod is more of a media device and it's not intended to be used while it's in your pocket. Anyway, there are always remotes.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The invitation is coverflow with a guy holding an iPod. Now, it's possible to use coverflow with the wheel but that's corny and Apple knows a lot of people are looking for a design similar to the iPhone. Also, Steve said an upcoming iPod would be running a slimmed down OS X.
- virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Radan, I completely agree. In any normal situation, the En-V phone wouldn't compete with the iPod, but that's not the case here. Apple's iPhone and iPod are too similar not to compete in a situation like this.
As I've said before, if Apple releases a 30 GB iPhone - the phone for 300-400 dollars, expect a HUGE consumer backlash. I'm sure people would've much rather waited two extra months for 22 extra gigs. I don't/hope Apple isn't dumb enough to do that to the iPhone owners out there, and seriously, who buys the iPhone for he phone? We all know that if you could have a ***** phone and an iPod-like-iPhone for 350 dollars, you'd take it over the actual iPhone. - nerd05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am thinking multitouch gestures will be the ticket. Ah, *****. I should go patent that idea.
- st3vo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Loving The Producers line..
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Apple's radio remote anyone?
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2No imagination at all... they barely changed the screen of an iPhone and called it a mockup.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You actually think that they will 'forget' to add a way to reset it? Pull yourself together.
