- NickDanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15kind of a pretentious article description, innit? It's almost as if you're saying,
IN MY HANDS, I HAVE THE WORLDS ONLY CUP OF COFFEE, I KID YOU NOT! IF I TIP IT MORE THAN AN INCH, SCALDING HOT LIQUID WILL COVER MY GENITALS.
a little extreme? yes. and don't get me wrong, it's exciting news, but is such hyperbole really necessary? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8
This is ironic, in an Alanis Morrisette kind of way, because right now, between my ass cheeks, I hold one of the first bootable OSx86 10.4.4 disks. This disk will allow anyone to install OSx86 on any SSE2 or greater machine. No, this isn’t a hoax. This disk is real. - BlackStorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7if you have a P4, you have an SSE2.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2
from Wikipedia:
"SSE2 is one of the IA-32 SIMD instruction sets, first introduced by Intel with the initial version of the Pentium 4 in 2001. It extends the earlier version SSE instruction set, and is intended to fully supplant MMX. SSE2 has itself been extended by SSE3, also known as "Prescott New Instructions", introduced by Intel to the Pentium 4 in early 2004.
Rival chip-maker AMD added support for SSE2 with the introduction of their Opteron and Athlon 64 ranges of 64-bit CPUs in 2003."
- Dustin - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I laughed my a$$ off reading that article. What a complete tool! He's holding a hacked O/S in his hands, but you think the guy just cured cancer.

OK...dad. - Hercules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seriously folks... with all the comments, does this image install on a PC? Too many comments and not enough answers :(
- cavemonkey50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Arr matey! 10.4.4 restore
- Dabisu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does this truly work on any PC with an SSE2 compatible processor?
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, without 10.4.3 already installed on my system, I can't just install 10.4.4 from the DVD, correct?
correct, you need the 10.3 intel iso that shipped with the new macs and then patch it with this update - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"ok for the ass hats that don't understand why this is, I'll explain for my situation.
Stealing Mac OS X is bad and I don't condone doing so.
I am testing out the OS under everyday conditions so i can see if it is worth buying the new MacBook Pro or not. Why drop $2500 on a laptop if I'm not goign to use it that much?
Even Kevin Rose said on a episode of Diggnation that if he didn't download copys of different programs, then he wouldn't have known everything he knows now. I doubt he was downloading them to steal them as he is now buying probably everyone that he used in the past. I know I am.
- Dustin"
Preciely.. And add to that the fact the OSX x86 isn't properly avaliable, but running fine, it makes sense to download/try this, even if you are going to but OS X in some way. Assuming Apple acctualy do release this soon, you'd be best of waiting a few months for this, and buy a half-decent laptop for half the price and buy this.. You could (possibly) buy an Alienware laptop and this for the same price, which is a little screwed up.. ("This" being the x86 OS X btw)
- Ben - plaxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2*waits for a proper scene rls* silly noobs
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what kind of video support is in this release? are there resolution limitations or issues if you have an nvidia or ati card?
- dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cavemonkey, I am going to worship you tonight.
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg++;
this is super cool. :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Curious to hear peoples impressions of OSx86 running on their non SSE3 boxes. And not simply a yes or no on the topic of booting, but how do the apps work?
Thanks - TokinDerrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks a million!
- archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"NVidia is not supported... unless recently apple changed there policy..."
Doh! It's useless to me!
There seems to be alot of confusion here. Some say this DVD is already patched and others say you must first patch it. Which is it? - Dennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hate digg for bringing sites down. This is rediculous
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let the Mac-Windows x86 arms race begin! Or continue! Or...something!
- ThugEsquire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm only interested because I need to be able to test my websites in Safari. Think I'm going to buy a Mac to do that? THINK AGAIN!
- mac4xbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FINALLY!!!! Booting 10.4.4 install disc and upgrading from 10.4.3.
- twowords, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is from the nfo:
Mac OS X 10.4.4 8G1165 DVD AutoPatcher
Warning: This requires at least 10 gigabytes of free space a working OSX
Installation and the First Restore DVD. This method works to create a bootable
10.4.4 install dvd to install 10.4.4 Natively, this Will NOT work to install
VMWare at present. (this is being looked into)
TW - VelvetNightmare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, without 10.4.3 already installed on my system, I can't just install 10.4.4 from the DVD, correct?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1btw, the best digg of the week ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how are you typing with a disc in your hands?
also, I'm pretty sure the First Bootable OSx86 10.4.4 DVD" came out a while ago, directly from Apple. what you appear to be talking about is the first hacked dvd that can be installed on any PC.
settle down with the headlines. - TokinDerrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats the name of the 10.4.4 disc thats floating around so I can add these patches to it?
I cannot seem to find it. I'm currently running 10.4.3 - Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2By the way, thanks guys... When Mac OS goes to some sort of weird activation scheme, I'm holding you all responsible.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1eeehhhhyyy mmmeeee harrrrtyyyy, my eye patch just slipped
- vapb400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bugzer-

Verify....but I think your processor has it - soopafly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow...look at all these future Apple fanboys...lol
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+010.4.3 already working and patched.
- VelvetNightmare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"So, without 10.4.3 already installed on my system, I can't just install 10.4.4 from the DVD, correct?
correct, you need the 10.3 intel iso that shipped with the new macs and then patch it with this update"
10.4.5 Shipped with my MacBook....so, I'm just going to go get 10,4,3
I'm still using 10.4.1 right now. - suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea whatever just patch the original iso that shipped with the new macs
- Macc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hold on, what is needed in addition to this DVD to make it work?
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dan, that's the patcher, buddy. ;)
i'm sure that's old news. - Macc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, without 10.4.3 already installed on my system, I can't just install 10.4.4 from the DVD, correct?
-----------
No, the DVD apparently installs it even if you dont have 10.4.3 - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, from what i hear:
this is the patched dvd for sse3 processors. a patcher is needed for sse2 processors, and it has to be run from the "command line"/"shell"/"single user mode."
i, on the other hand, have a sse3 processor, but no ati video card. i did, however, download the 10.4.1 dvd and patched it myself within windows with a neat little utility. so, i installed the 10.4.1 patched dvd on a computer WITH AN NVIDIA VIDEO CARD.
now, it seems this new version (10.4.4) doesn't support nvidia. go figure. i'll find out. - TomP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wicked THANKS!

"Just to make it clear... to get this working you need a few things:
Minimium system requirements for OSX
A working Install of OSX (to Patch the 10.4.4 install disc)"
Wrong. Thats the whole point, its already patched. - ventro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So has anyone actually installed it? Does anyone know if we can actually set a resolution higher than 1280x1024 now?
- Lewie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"have fun paying more for the same pc hardware."
Dude, that's EXACTLY why we're here, so we can install OS X on regular pc hardware. - archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does 10.4.4 have nvidia drivers?

- VelvetNightmare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"yea whatever just patch the original iso that shipped with the new macs"
