I love quotations out of context. - bxblox, on 01/24/2008, -0/+42when did digg turn into a gizmodo news feed, 5 gizmodo stories on the front page... the internet isnt that small
- wonderchemist, on 01/24/2008, -1/+22Wonder what questions he gets ask at airport security with that as his carry on.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+20a- do we have to cut the green or the red cable?
b- do you prefer odorless or perfumed vaseline?
c- could you please put your hands behind your head?
d- all of the above. - joshuaer, on 01/24/2008, -2/+16why does it seem like ever 3rd link i click on brings me to a giz page!
- exomni, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11Most inefficient use of space EVAR. That's quite an accomplishment.
- boer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+10"Anti-MacBook Air Has All Necessary Ports" isn't worth the head line. Even in by PC mod standards that thing sucks
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10I would *absolutely* sit at a starbucks with that monstrosity, and I would LOVE it. I want one, and I'll pay 650 for it.
- LLLSecretChimp, on 01/24/2008, -0/+9The hardest part will be finding a manila envelope big enough to put it in.
- skubiszm, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7Reminds me of the P-P-P-Powerbook!
http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/index.html - Zzone, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7It seems to me they are running Tractor, which is DJ software. The soundcard won't matter as it is outputting music via USB into the Mixer and the mixer outputs the music to big loud club speakers.
- Gravey9, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Viewsonic he went all out... >.>
- n88n, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Strange?!?! I mean I just bought a refurbed laptop for $400 bucks that had better specs than that. Someone tell that dude next time to just buy a refurb laptop and take his dad and gf out for dinner with the extra $200.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -7/+13Screw the Macbook Air. THIS, I'd pay money for.
- Chazzer3, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6Some manufacturers try to save space with the screen and keyboard! Other's evidently don't :P
- colincornaby, on 01/24/2008, -3/+9I'm not sure I understand. The Macbook Air would be destroyed when... what? When music fans rush the stage destroying all the musical equipment? When you send your mixing laptop crowd surfing? What exactly at a concert would destroy a Macbook Air? I would be more worried about the Macbook Air's lack of Firewire, which kind of limits the audio devices you can hook up to it...
- theShiba, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Guess the computer isn't the only thing that has all the necessary ports!
- XxZtemxX, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Dugg because it shows that you don't need to spend $1800-3000 for a crappy computer.
- davidrools, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4No, packing up loads of gear and throwing it into a van, unpacking, setting up, using for hours straight w/ drinks, smoke, etc. all around, tearing down, packing up and throwing everything back into the van, stacked to the ceiling with amps and speakers and all number of heavy and damaging stuff thrown around by mildly careful people. And do that a few times a week for a year. A suitcase style thing would survive much better than a laptop...unless it's in a nice ATA rated flight case.
- Blizaine, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4imagine him opening that up on the tray table
- scott12087, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5So, for those of you that are confused by the title, it's just an article about a PC mod. Nothing that we haven't seen a million times before.
- SirZRX, on 01/24/2008, -2/+6if title = apple + Macbook air then
go to frontpage - thenativeraver, on 01/24/2008, -4/+7Sweet, I just wish they would have used a m-audio card instead...
- jrizzo, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Yes...its true, things other than Apple can be "great" too.
- DiggzDE, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Buried for lame. For 600 bucks, I could get three $100 dollar laptops...
Yeah, I did the math right on that. :) - jedicurt, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3well... they had to do something, cause you can only repeat lists from cracked.com so many times before everyone realizes that they have read that exact list 37 times in the past week
- keithc01, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Yeah, that way they could rest assured they would never get updated drivers or answers to support questions :)
- colincornaby, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Traktor makes a Mac version:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/trakto ... - CasaMan, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3REAL DJ's carry around cases with big black discs.. I believe they call them "records" or "vinyl"..
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3He's from Uruguay. The cost of a portable there is three to four times the cost of an equivalent the USA. On top of that, salaries are a very small fraction of what we typically earn in the States.
The guy had a problem. He didn't have the money and went back to the basics. Good for him. I think this thing is great and quite stylish. - Sino, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I would have put a UPS in the case while i was at it, THEN it can rival a laptop, because then it has battery :)
- toppgun, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2but i bet your refurb laptop doesnt have a sweet case mod like his does
- MrViklund, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Buried because of gizmodo.com
- bigteebo, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I love it. It looks like something out of Max Headroom, or the movie Brazil. Has the portability of an Osbourne. I wouldn't mind making one myself, with as many ports as possible in the back, and room to stuff in a power cable(or a power strip). So retro-tastic.
- inactive, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3Since apparently the guys doesn't have a lot of money, and all the project is done from scratch using spare components, wood and leather, I think he went with whatever he had available at the time.
The result is quite good, though. And I like the look of it a lot. Even if it's a lot of pounds, if it's for specific uses like his music gigs, I think this is a great custom system.
Definitely, it is the anti-macbook air. - technoredneck, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I need one of those things. I bet I could lose 20-30 lbs lugging it to class and picking it up.
- Swift2, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1The laptop for Soviet weightlifters with big laps.
- phinn, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I'd rather have an IBM X series. Way cheaper too.
- Dalhectar, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2In 3... 2... 1....
In Soviet Russia the Laptop Carries You.
We'll be here all night. - agenthamsta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I don't really see a point in this....why do people bash something they don't want. I don't want or need a MBA, so i just ignore it....It's irrelevant to me.
- helgew, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Pity he also has to lug around the car battery and 12V to 110V inverter to make it truly portable!
- joshuaer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1yesterday Giz had 4 articles on the front page!
- Gryffydd, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1When the algorithm was updated? After Gizmodo handed Digg a pile of cash under the table?
- kirakun, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Nothing speaks more manhood security than being seen using this trunk-laptop in public.
- k4thryn, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Dude. Is it still not known what happened to that Jeff guy? That's kind of creepy.
- point1432, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0"1 gb de ram"
those damn foreigners, always trying to sneak their shoddy words into our pure english language - pcpimpster, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1I love it, even if it will give me a hernia.
- spz104, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0"Gastón Betancor, an electronic musician from Uruguay, is the designer of this beast, ..made by his father-in-law in wood, which he and his girlfriend bound in leather....He did it for a simple reason: not enough money to buy a laptop."
Every father-in-law's dream. Not enough money to buy a laptop, no doubt due to his job as an aspiring electronic musician, and "girlfriend"?! -
