- Clodagh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30On practically every article that is related to the infamous iPhone 'flag564' always joins the comments to tell all it doesn't exist, he's a troll.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27This is the LAST time I will mention the username "flag564", and it's to say one last thing: YOU'RE WRONG!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21yeah you can see flag's profile here to see who everyone is talking about http://flag564.isgay.com/
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Ha.. I always have trouble figuring what people are talking about because I had blocked all the common digg trolls long before.
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Direct link to patent on USPTO site:

I'm hard already. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ mrASSMAN
You know I should have done that a long time ago too but for some reason its like the Howard Stern factor, you listen to them more just to see what they say next. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Flag564_The_Bill_O_Reilly_of_digg_com
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15what are you talking about?
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"And for the record, I am not a troll." - flag564
Ahhh, flag564, thanks for the laugh. See, you can be funny and witty when you want to! - slsanity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7The "iPhone" casing will be made of zirconia.
- springbok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's already hit the front page...linked from exactly the same site. Yes, you're excited, but do we have to keep seeing the same bloody stories?!
- gaqua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A guy they keep locked in a basement in Cupertino so he can't post about it on his blog.
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GregMote: They didnt file the patent for the ipod mini until November 30th 2006?
I wish i'd known that. I could have filed on the 29th and sued them for patent infringement. - phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not just any phone... It's a portable computing device that is a music player, a media player, a cell phone, and a handheld computing device, and comprising of a seamless tube of ceramic material that is radio transparent with a substantially planar front surface being configured to present a user interface sub system wherein the user interface sub system includes a display and a touch pad!
...Why can't they just cram it all into one run-on, mostly unreadable sentence like that instead of saying the same things 6 times in a totally unreadable bulleted list? Maybe they write patents like this so only the most dedicated will get past the first 20 bullets... - molsen311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this is why technical writers get paid so well
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looking at the figures, looks like the design is similar to an old-style iPod Mini, with the rounded edges. The patent body also spends a lot of time talking about those rounded edges and the fact that the casing is an "extruded tube" (also consistent with the old Mini design).
- GregMote, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The summary:
The iPod mini is made from extruded anodized aluminum and the components slide in from the ends for easy assembly. - iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22 batteries -- one for the mp3 player portion, one for the phone
2 sizes -- 4GB ($249) and 8GB ($449)
Super small
Slider keyboard - dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So they patented an enclosure made out of a ceramic material. Is there a patent on encosures made of metal and plastic too?
- GregMote, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That is just the patent for the iPod mini. This is ancient, out of date, of interest to historians only "news". Of course the patent includes every possible feature they could consider including, that's how the stupid US patent system works.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't this look EXACTLY like the latest LG?
- kris33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1www.duggmirror.com
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unlikely to go anywhere. Ceramics shatter if subjected to shock. You just drop this on tile or concrete once and kiss it goodbye.
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Definately well worth the read.
- shauncullen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Anyone want to sum up the patent jargon so we don't have to read what appears to be incredibly long and boring?
- cipher64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First there was the iPod, then the iPhone, ok so how much longer before the buzz starts for the iGame?
- StephenCIreland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, according to claim 15 it slides in some way, so a keyboard ?
claim 16 : just a screen on the front possibly touch
claim 18 : it confirms the touch screen
[0024] : it slides longditudally so its a slider phone
[0074] : functions like an iPod (iPod name actually used)
[0075] : May include a hard drive - dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Which was??? -_-
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder who has to write these things...
- sh1595, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like a cross between the new nano and the old iPod mini. Smallish screen. :-( To see the actual patent application with the sketches go to this site that has PDF files of patent apps-- http://www.pat2pdf.org/ -- and search on "20060268528." (Thanks, Tim!)
If this is what it's going to be, I'm disappointed. I would expect Apple's iPhone to have a bigger screen, at the very least. According to this patent app, it's kind of, umm, let's say "unoriginal" in that it looks very much like a thick nano or a mini. It's not the "iMac of phones," nor is it the "iPod of phones." It's much more humble. I hope Apple has something much more sexy up its' sleeve. - StephenCIreland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just went to flag564's profile, the guy just diggs apple and zune stories all day, like get a life hes officially an apple anti-fan boy. If you just use digg to hate a group of people you reall need a life
- nickbender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i guess it'll all depend on the final product.
Design schematics and figures dont' show much by way of a finished product, and it might look considerably different when all is said and done. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope it has wifi, bluetooth, quad band 2megapixel (or better) camera, qwerty keys, decent battery life, and osx intergration, i will be sold
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's not going to be called the Apple IPhone. It's too cliche. But then again Apple is that. So I am going to take a guess and say it's going to be called the "Apple Fone".
- gravis86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Jimmygoon
Wow, you posted pictures of the iPod mini because nobody knows what that looks like? Who do you think you're fooling? - zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so...freakin...ugly.....
Guess I got spoiled by the fake iPhone ad - lopla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2when can I pre-order? :)
- madinga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quote: "In order to provide access to the audio jack 214 audio subassembly 210, the top end cap 158 includes an opening 193 having a shape that coincides with the shape of the audio jack 214. Inmost cases, the housing of the audio jack 214 is substantially flush with the outer surface of the top end cap 158."
So it's a got a headphones jack. Okay.... - cantuchristoph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wrong. the rails are in the phone or whatever it is, and they are slots to insert components.
- HaxAttaX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4We want pictures godamit!!!!11
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You perform delete on Wall of Text, but Wall of Text is Immune.
You attack Wall of Text, Wall of Text blocks.
Wall of Text crits you for 9043.
You die. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I don't see his comments, I must have blocked him many moons ago.
- torilive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does this really deserve a patent? All I see is a cell phone/DAP that looks like an iPod.
I could see, perhaps, some sort of a copyright on the design, but a patent? What's next, a patent on Buy It now and One Click purchase? Oh wait they already gave patents for those :/ - ogEmmet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The patent mentions that the enclosure will be made from zirconium (dioxide)? If so, IMO, that would be very different.
- mchriste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It took me longer to scroll through the damn thing than it did for me to read the article...
Cool though. - Bobcatou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This looks bogus. Looks like someone found the Patient to one of the Nanos and substituted Iphone in it.
- TheMacThinker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is really cool. I would have hope to see some drawing associated with the patent though.
