- diemunkiesdie, on 05/07/2009, -6/+286Good for T-Mobile! They have always given really good customer service whenever I have a problem. But their service is so good that I have only had to call twice in 5 years, and both of those times it was my phones fault, not theirs!
- Xylery, on 05/07/2009, -0/+165That's classy. Good for them, I wish my local operators were as good.
- webgeek2point0, on 05/07/2009, -0/+108No, T-Mobile offers support for any unlocked GSM phone. They even have a group of techs that are specifically trained in getting customers up and running on non-Tmo phones.
- zslice, on 05/07/2009, -1/+86 :) I like positive consumerist stories. Hope this gets dugg as much all the negative stories!
- moog, on 05/07/2009, -2/+79They also support unlocked BlackBerry Bolds despite not offering BB Bolds
- xaos42, on 05/07/2009, -9/+74maybe because they DO offer iPhones in other countries, like in austria and germany
- h2hummerz, on 05/07/2009, -0/+59Well they're not about to hand all those customers over to ATT, T-Mobile FTW!
- Nebarik, on 05/07/2009, -2/+37yay, a non-evil phone company. ever try dealing with optus in australia? ...fun
- aladrin, on 05/07/2009, -0/+34It's not often you see a story about customer service done right on the net. I'm glad T-Mobile actually cares about their customers.
- cd419, on 05/07/2009, -0/+28ummm.... they can't? what part of legally binding documents giving AT&T exclusivity is not clear for you?
- Khast, on 05/07/2009, -0/+26T-Mobile allowed me to just purchase and activate a SIM, they didn't care what phone I used. Service has been great.
AT&T on the other hand, I had to lie to them to get a SIM. They absolutely wouldn't sell me a SIM for the phone I had, because it wasn't supported..... I managed to get a SIM, Phone worked perfectly....their service on the other hand SUCKED. I joined when texts were only 5 cents a text.....got 2-3 spam texts a day....when they raised the texting to 10 cents per text, I started getting 20-30 texts per day. I called customer support, and they basically told me to ***** off. (PS...this was when I left them for T-Mobile.) - mrBitch, on 05/07/2009, -0/+24RE: " ... are for all intensive purposes separate companies ... "
I know that's what you "hear", and you may have thought this is what people have been saying, but I need to correct you on this.
The actual wording is :
" for all intents and purposes "
You're welcome. - JMaj, on 05/07/2009, -0/+22When my family got the T-Mobile family plan, we barely had any problems. If something was wrong we would call, and they would fix it instantly. Now we have Verizon and yeah we call like every month for charges that we didn't even make. :/
I'm waiting for a new Android phone to come out for T-mobile(Not a fan of the G1 design), so I can get a plan by myself. - BishopAzrael, on 05/07/2009, -0/+19I've been with Tmo for years here in the US and I've only been to one area that didn't have coverage..... Montana. But even now.. montana has coverage I believe. Tmo has rocked for me for years. I've never had any problems with their service, and their customer service people are the cats pajamas.
- lewhich, on 05/07/2009, -0/+17That's why I left Sprint 5 years ago and moved to T-Mobile and haven't looked back since ... not to mention "I look my G-Phone".
T-Mobile: not the best reception (in the metro) but definitely the best customer service - TheDeuce, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16Outstanding! I have always received excellent customer service from T-Mobile.
- xuanyan, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16Right. That's exactly what didn't happen.
- ryansmith18, on 05/07/2009, -1/+14You're suggesting The Consumerist is in cahoots (yes, cahoots) with T-Mobile?
That's just absurd. The Consumerist has been around for quite some time with pretty unbiased articles on numerous companies within numerous industries. It has nothing to do with marketing ploys. - ShuttleXpC, on 05/07/2009, -0/+13Dunno what you're talking about not supporting them. I walked into a T-mobile store with an unlocked iPhone and walked out minutes later simply with a SIM card. They've always done this with various smart phones (especially ones from Japan that were compatible [which isn't many considering their baseband is almost 100% different but the phones have compatibility modes]) without any questions from T-mobile.
- asskicker32, on 05/07/2009, -0/+12Thank you Mr. Bitch, that misquote is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
- SlipStream89, on 05/07/2009, -0/+11I had a problem with my N80 once and they helped me fix it.
- jonshipman, on 05/07/2009, -0/+10Well of course he was on a Spam list.
AS was I on T-Mobile. You know what they did? Block their number and refund me the money. Doesn't sound like AT&T did that for him. - boxxa, on 05/07/2009, -0/+10A step toward open cell networks.
I hope people take advantage of this and TMO profits off this. Its a great idea for them to open their network to non TMo devices. - mediamaker, on 05/07/2009, -1/+10Dugg down for being a blatant nimrod
- metaliq, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9Never had a problem with T-mobile. I live in the twin cities in Minnesota, and my coverage has been superb...
- Cidinho, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9Wow. That is seriously awesome, sir. Wish my operator was as good.
- ehaugan, on 05/07/2009, -1/+10In America, they are known as Verizon :)
- handheldchimp, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Now that's service. You hear that AT&T? It's not even their phone and they are fixing bugs that deal with it...now how about you do the same for my area?
- mpn401, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8BREW blows booty. You can't do jack ***** with it. Next phone I get isn't going to be BREW, even if I have to get a smartphone. Please God let Verizon get Android.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7Of course they can, but can they accept support for unlocked iPhones?
- jjfac, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7You obviously DON'T have T-Mobile. They are the best. They wouldn't do that. I love them. You suck.
- jasz, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7true... I use my unlocked iPhone with T-mobile and they've always been helpful about it. kudos to T-mobile.
- Gnar04, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7costumer service always sucks ass, so the first time i called Tmobile for help on something, i was pre-pissed before i talked to anyone. Imagine my surprise when all the people ive talked to at their service are so damn nice, and actually helpful.
- chopeh, on 05/07/2009, -1/+8Nice. But it doesn't make me like T-Mobile any more (T-Mobile UK at least). Myself, and pretty much everyone I know with them has had constant issues with their dodgy rules...
- djdavetrouble, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7I have TMobile in NYC and have the opposite experience as you njfinn. They have always worked with me,
and I have 1 supported and 2 unsupported handsets on their network. The last time, they
even said to me, "thanks for using TMobile with those unsupported handsets". I have
had to go to level 3 support a few times and it was always great. (maybe they know you are from nj) - Elranzer, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7It's too bad that they're the exception rather than the rule.
- brodsky13, on 05/07/2009, -1/+7+1 switch to T-mobile
- naner, on 05/07/2009, -2/+8"i can quit anytime i want."
I'm no shrink, but isn't that the classic "I'm not an addict" creed? - jonshipman, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6Not bad. Larger cities have it with more growing all the time. What we need is more phones with the 1700 AWS band.
- Elranzer, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6Unless you have a non-smartphone (then it's running Verizon OS, aka Brew).
- TypeEE, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6$3.33/month? What is that math?
I am using $10 refills which can give me extension of a year , isn't that $0.83 a month if you don't use your phone that much?
Anyway, iPhone + Tmobile to go is the cheapest and best combo. - iDiggr, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6Yeah, I can live without visual voicemail for customer service this great. ***** at&t and all their overpriced *****. With t-mobile I have the option of having a data plan or not. It's not economical for me as everywhere I'm at has a wifi connection. And when I'm away from a wifi connection the last thing I wanna do is surf the app store.
- zydeco, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5I'm using a prepaid T-Mobile SIM in an unlocked iPhone 2G, and it works remarkably well, better than I thought it would. I can even get a few websites over EDGE through their wap gateway thingy. If only they brought prepaid t-zones back so us cheapskates could access the full web. Can't have everything for $3.33/month, I guess.
- jonshipman, on 05/07/2009, -2/+7T-Mobile UK and T-Mobile USA are for all intensive purposes separate companies. I've heard TM UK being equated to AT&T over here.
- pirategaspard, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5I thought he meant that the separate purposes were INTENSE!!!!
- puter, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Ya, it's funny, they probably offered better customer service to the iPhone customers than ATT offers to people who actually bought the iPhone from them.
- jonshipman, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Well T-Mo is the only US Cell company that's "neutral" as you call it. Sure you could buy an unlocked phone and run it on AT&T but you better not call them with any problems with it.
I've even had T-Mobile reset MyFavs when I was having a problem and I didn't even have a MyFavs phone (iPhone). - thephosphorbox, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Wow very impressive. WTG T-Mobile!
- egarc, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5I had a similar experience with tmobile. I called to get settings for an application, Swirly MMS, and tech support happily gave me all the possible settings. Both people I spoke to were friendly and seemed happy to help me. It was some of the best customer support I've ever gotten, especially considering it was for a phone they don't sell.
- wolfing, on 05/07/2009, -0/+4I'm afraid to tell you that the G2 might not be good either. It doesn't have a keyboard (unless that's what you don't like about the G1? *boggle* )
