- ryaninc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+132For being an unofficial ad, that is one quality production. The video is excellent, editing is excellent, even the audio is great. I'm not even all that excited about the iPhone, and I really liked that ad. :-)
- xaaronreevesx, on 10/11/2007, -5/+126the iPhone is good for everyone, even deaf people.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -2/+69That was a tad ironic, I have to admit.
- WhiteIce89, on 10/11/2007, -9/+64I apple New York, too.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -7/+61@ angrybacon
yeah...mutes have TONS of uses for a phone too. - smeagel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40Text messaging, watching movies with subtitles, looking at pictures, checking email...there are lots of things to do on that device without the ability to hear.
- Lumiras, on 10/11/2007, -9/+41There shouldn't be anything unofficial about that...Apple should put this on TV
But...yeah, the deaf guy...doesn't make much sense - defectDS, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31Jamaican fun of me Jamaican accent!?
- AngryBacon, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33They could have been mute.
- vacuum2440, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28yet another example of the $400 million of free advertising for the iphone...
apple is really lucky to have such die hard fans because im pretty sure most of the "advertising" ive seen for the iphone has been from excited customers/news/people like this...just amazing - kernelhappy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30 j4200 33
"It amuses me soooo much. In this case its from sure raw talent. Who spends their time putting this much work into someone's product without them paying you a dime?"
If I had to guess, a film student. - jennamalia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Most modern phones support TTY, so yes, they are useful for deaf people.
- defectDS, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23Heeeeey! I know the song, and now you do to! It's a good one too.
"Young Folks" - Peter Bjorn and John - Sarawanan, on 10/11/2007, -6/+23here is youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zG7mOOHOe9M
- stormgren, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20The black woman with the African accent was.
- Sarawanan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17There are other uses for an iPhone than to make calls. You could check email, surf the net, listen to music (if mute) and various other activities.
antimatter beat me to it... - j4200, on 10/11/2007, -11/+23This is absolutely a great peice of work. I love how most of it is in many different languages and cultures of NY.
Apple fans hold so much zeal. I love it. It amuses me soooo much. In this case its from sure raw talent. Who spends their time putting this much work into someone's product without them paying you a dime? - Wickedboss, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19Relax , breath , relax and breath... Now go to Apple Store...Everything is gonna be ok now...
- leftfield, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Man, it's gonna be tough not to laugh when everyone is talking about that spread your fingers to enlarge an image and all I can think about is "spread the taco". Thanks Kevin.
- Sarawanan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12and those 3 guys before her
- drzeus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Had they claimed that it would be "affordable" or something like that, then I'd agree with you, but they didn't mention the price at all. That's not misleading.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11@lumiras : Are you trying to tell us that the only reason to buy the iPhone compared to a cheaper device is because you can talk into it?
You might want to rethink that... - eschompthis, on 10/11/2007, -9/+17whats next a appleTV commercial with a blind man.
- avatarpalin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11It's a little more gritty and real than the apple adds tend to be and personally I think thats a great angle to take. Real people in real life talking about this new app, something we have been doing for months now. Although they missed one, the geek telling the non geek friend or co-worker and having him all excited and the co-worker with nothing but a blank stare...
- zero_bit, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Every deaf person I know owns a sidekick. It has changed the way we communicate-- no longer being bogged down by a TDD unit and a receiver. I am looking forward to the iPhone a great deal.
- LesterWallace, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8peter bjorn and john
- beggersfunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I love the Ad not beccause of iPhone. Wonderfully made.
- mace2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Seriously, I saw that Mercedes Benz ad and guess what? It costs more than my Kia! What a rip-off. Misleading.
- thespanielator, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6If you say "Beer Can" it sounds like a Jamaican person saying bacon.
- arcologist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The song is "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John, a Swedish trio. The newest album is incredible. Just saw them in Calgary, they're on tour right now, but just went through North America.
http://www.last.fm/music/Peter+Bjorn+and+John
http://www.peterbjornandjohn.com/ - luet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4There are a lot of immigrants in New York... same with Toronto. I mean almost all immigrants to North America came in on Ellis Island. My grandparents did. And my grandparents, like most immigrants, usually speak in their original language with each other. Would you speak german all the time if you lived in germany? No.
Anyways, hi defectds! I remember your wii controller concept. - dragon76, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4When I was in college the only computers the blind students could use were the Macs because they had text to speech and speech recognition. This was over 10 years ago.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8its still a phone yeah
but its also uselful for web based comunication by text
yeah thats right
deaf people can read they may not hear
but they can still IM people on it - superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That's an excellent ad, almost as much for New York as for the iPhone. Makes me want to go back for another visit.
Just great stuff all the way around. - superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hey buddy, I have a hint for you - those voices you hear while you are browsing Digg? They ain't real. So a deaf person browsing the internet can do so pretty easily even without all the voices telling him what to type.
- higherness, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6For real, the song's called "Young Folks."
- iomegadrive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8Don't think just cuz you made the commercial you get a free one now!
- orph3us, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I like the ad. So many negative comments in here though. Some people like Apple products, if you don't, you're being just as zealous as those you claim to be fanboys by attacking them :/ ....
I like the music too :D ... good ad for iphone and Peter Bjorn and John. I would endorse it if I were either them or Apple.. - Billions, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Valid point, but remember it's not an 'official' Apple ad... Apple had no real hand in it. It's a 'spec ad,' ("speculative ad") something people fund and make themselves, to show their own skills and abilities, with hopes of getting more paying work.
Another example of a 'spec ad' is last year's hugely watched unofficial VW ad where the car-bomber blows himself up inside the car, with no damage beyond the interior of the car - it was so well done people thought it was real, and VW eventually asked that it be taken down as it was not how they wanted their image portrayed. - krolls, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Great ad, these guys are obviously talented. The ONE issue I had is that i felt that the whole thing seemed a bit dark... there was to much light/dark contrast
Dont get me wrong however, great concept, great execution, this sucker is ready for network - qpdb, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4you know apple is going to hire one of those guys now
- allenu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Nice ad. I hope you guys got paid for it.
- whurley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey all, we're hosting iPhoneDevCamp right after the release, check it out here and please feel free to promote it to your friends:
http://digg.com/apple/Introducing_iPhone_Developers_Camp
It's BarCamp style, so there's no charge to get in, and we'll want everyone to participate to help make the event successful. - streak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The writing sucks. Who would buy a phone that lacks a keyboard? People are elated over a phone without a keyboard? Not just once but multiple times in the ad? We never see how a phone could possibly be used without having a "keyboard". Ridiculous. Stupid. Terrible writing.
- dRuNk3nIrIsHmEn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2text messaging?
edit: damnit, smeagel said it below me - davepascoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1>ok, but I'm sure they can get something else to do that stuff for much cheaper that doesn't have a phone or mp3 player in it.
sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but so can people who aren't deaf. so what's your point? you think "they" shouldn't be allowed any of the limited supply so that there's more for the "normals"? - unknownunknowns, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Also, I hope Peter, Bjorn, and John sue the ***** out of whoever made this.
- Billions, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Funny guy... Wait until you hold one. My girlfriend mocked one up at her work out of tape and printouts at actual size... It's a nice scale for a gizmo, and thin as well.
I hope I can handle the touchscreen aspect, specifically the lack of any tactile buttons. I'm really not a fan of touchscreens unless you're looking right at it - I used to try that with my old SE P800 and always had to look at the phone to make sure I was hitting the correct 'button' for dialing or deleting a voice mail... No more feeling and knowing you've got your finger on the '7' button while you hold it up to your ear.
Same reason those old Sony 'Remote Commander' programmable TV/AV remotes without buttons kind of sucked - no real way to know where your finger is pressing without looking.
Someone needs to develop a layer with a matrix of small pixel-pillows in it that can fill ever so slightly with a fluid or air so you can have tactile clues as to where your fingers are, but can still change when the visual on-screen buttons change.
Maybe next version? - starlord1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Beautiful, Evocative and very clever.
- carb0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Good to see them express its uses for the deaf, since I am one.
Although I can't imagine myself buying one of those things at the price they're set.
