The hardware culture within Apple moved from one that was very open and eager to support homebrew hardware development, to one that downright shunned it and refused to release information on most hardware interfaces and ICs used in the Macintosh. One of the last Apple designs by Wozniak was the "Super Woz Integrated Machine" floppy controller, for which documentation was held secret by Apple against Woz's wishes, to the point where nothing was known about the chip interfaces until Apple was finally forced to release information on the chip during its development of MkLinux.
Woz is an old-school hardware hacker that, despite his genius as an engineer, could just not fit in to the modern hardware engineering culture of Apple - roessnakhan, on 08/28/2008, -2/+19I always thought the casting of Wyle as Jobs in "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" was a little off, but from that image, I can kind of see why they chose him.

Woz seems remarkably good natured. I wouldn't smile at Jobs after I'd been screwed over by him. Oh, maybe after the passage of time and all things are forgotten.
