- artfuldodga, on 08/05/2008, -3/+28yeah, bill gates never admitted windows had issues...
http://gizmodo.com/342920/holy-crap-did-bill-gates ... - mgxplyr, on 08/05/2008, -1/+22obvious much?
but I guess it's relieving to hear it from the horses mouth. - seltaeb4, on 08/05/2008, -38/+58Difference between Apple and Microsoft:
When Apple screws up, they eat crow.
When Microsoft screws up, they develop a $500,000,000 advertising campaign designed to trick you into thinking their products aren't complete *****. - tugger, on 08/05/2008, -0/+15Someone might want to tell LG, Samsung, and Nokia that... their product launches barely made it to press that week..
- Photar, on 08/05/2008, -0/+13In hind sight it would have been better PR too to have each feature spread out by a month or two each.
- lquid, on 08/05/2008, -1/+14I wonder how many people he "met" on elevators with this screw-up.
- bradbaxter, on 08/05/2008, -1/+10I use Mobile Me (because I was already a .Mac subscriber). The first week after launch was a little buggy, but after that I've not noticed any problems. Granted, I don't do a lot with iDisk, but everything else seems to work fine. I don't know what all the hatred is about. .Mac was hated, too... but MobileMe is far better than .Mac ever was.
I think everyone is just blindly jumping onto the bash-MobileMe bandwagon. It's an ego-boost. If you can bash a product from a company that generally delivers great products to people with great taste, then doesn't it make you feel somehow superior to them all? - TWiThead, on 08/05/2008, -2/+9"The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year."
And for the next four or five months, people are supposed to pay Apple for a service that the company isn't proud of? - MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6@marvin
And they're giving an extra month of the service to help make up for it.
I'm more concerned about the charges on people's credit cards during their "free" month of trial service. Hopefully that has been resolved and won't happen again. - MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -3/+8How about you get buried for just being an ass?
MobileMe has issues, they will be fixed. The iPhone launch has hardly been botched with devices selling out at many venues (kinda the point of selling stuff you know?). Whatever bugs the iPhone 3G has will be addressed.
Remember all the XP issues when that came out? Fixed. Remember all the issues when Vista came out? Mostly fixed and the rest will come in time. Issues with 10.5? Mostly fixed with the rest coming in time. Issues with the XBox 360? MS is putting their money where their mouth is and is fixing the problems. You can't completely judge a software driven device by the software that initially comes with it.
Get over your hatred and obviously firm belief that all Apple is is blind fanboys buying their stuff - b4cheung, on 08/05/2008, -3/+8Tell you what, I'll forgive you if you'll unlock my new iPhone.
- DanMiller, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6@Marvin
It isn't uncommon for a paid service to occasionally mess up. What is noteable is Apple at least is giving us a free month to make up for it, much more time than I was ever actually effected for. Did they screw up? yes, however they have at least taken steps to fix it. - Tenoq, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5Not true. Look at Microsoft's response to the Xbox 360 troubles. I'd say that's outstanding support - extending warranties to 3 years. It's a damn-sight more than their competitors are doing in that market (I'm looking at you, Sony).
- kipmartin, on 08/05/2008, -4/+8interesting take on Steve.
you get fired when you don't show creativity and due diligence. you don't get fired if you take a chance promoting something new and innovative. the fact that MobileMe and the new iPhone work so synergistically would leave most people to believe the move was a good one. in fact, i'd be surprised if Steve made the decision for a concurrent launch of the two products.
people love to hate the very successful. i think it's a reaction to being stuck in a box with no creative output and poor vision. Steve will get this company to the next level and beyond while some pick their nose and find fault with him. he's about the most creative company head in the US.
heads won't roll. - spdorsey, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6Who do you think he is? Chuck Norris?
;) - MacHarborGuy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4marvin69: That is the day and age we live in. I pay for cable TV, cable internet, used to pay for World of Warcraft, etc. All of these have service outages, all online services have them, especially on launch days. Apple, unlike Blizzard, is actually giving more credit to their subscribers. Blizzard would normally give extra days for each day of an outage. Apple is giving a month free for a short outage.
I don't know what everyones issues are with MobileMe, to be honest. The ONLY issue I had was that my iDisk had issues during massive file copies (copying over 1000 photos and it hanged on one of them). That issue appeared to be fixed the day after I first noticed it. - motivatedguy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4I'm an apple fan boy and even I was pissed on July 11th. Whoever thought rolling out the iPhone 3G, 2.0 Software, App Store, and MobileMe all on the SAME DAY should be fired. They should have staggered the roll out of software and hardware with the 2.0 software being released the week before the 3G phone to allow us $600 beta testers to get the new apps and such. Then the 3G phone, then MobileMe. But that would be iCrazy ,I guess.
- strangewill, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6Lisa? Puck Mouse? The ROKR? Cyberdog?
- MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3For everyone of your attempts to claim an Apple failure (and I'm not saying that many of those aren't true) I have one comment.
Microsoft Bob - EdgeOfEpsilon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3Heh, you'd always have "all the features," since the only features that matter are the ones you know about.
That's just a reason not to *announce* the other features. - JasonCox, on 08/05/2008, -5/+8I'm waiting for a Apple fanboy to come around and counter this only to realize that Jobs was the one who said it.
- MicHalpin, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Yes, because more people on their crappy service is what they need right now.
- lukasz007, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5Agree
- nimbletimble, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2anyone know if email and idisk work now? .mac was hopeless with both
- LeeVal, on 08/05/2008, -1/+3No, Paying $99 a year to not get all the features half way through your subscription. That isn't a good idea. MobileMe should of been delayed then fully released when ready as well all know.
- wildsnake, on 08/05/2008, -5/+7You're forgiven, now where are the new Macs?
- surferjoemaui, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2my dads business had one so i got to try it before the mac came out. it was amazing at the time!
- xsecretfiles, on 08/05/2008, -3/+5So does that mean we get a free one year trial?? Yes?
- billymonster, on 08/05/2008, -3/+5there is no such thing as an itouch.
i think you mean iPod touch. - themisanthrope, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Well, now MS and Apple are even score with disastrous "Me" branded products. But MS wins hands down for the bigger disaster.
- bryanwebster, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2i already have after my emails were down for a week
- ophello, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2then: time: then we went home
than: apple does more than - trappermark, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Him and I went to the Apple store? So did him like his iPhone? Have you called he on it?
- strangewill, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4Newton?
- MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -1/+3The Lisa was doomed to fail because of price, not because it didn't work. 10 grand was way too much for almost anyone in 1983, though my brother-in-law had one and I was blown away by the interface.
- MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4Chuck Norris doesn't need MobileMe since anything worth knowing comes to him...or else
- EdgeOfEpsilon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1I assume your apply that same standard to every company, and that you're not just singling out a singly utterance for the sake of niggling technicalities.
- alphadog, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1Yes it was. But let's not forget also the iphone launch, iphone 2.0 update and the apps store all going up within 24 hours.
So what have we learned from this? - strangewill, on 08/05/2008, -1/+2Lisa?
- Palaceguard, on 08/05/2008, -1/+2Only 3 updates in more than a week only in the MobileMe status page doesn't sound like Apple means what they say. These update say nothing, but mail server problem and bandwidth. Bugs were fixed...Like wow.
http://www.apple.com/mobileme/status/ - spdorsey, on 08/05/2008, -5/+6I am a Mobile Me subscriber, and I'm not that disappointed. I expect anyone (even Apple) to screw up occasionally, and I 'm just glad that it was something like this rather than something like the Powerbook 5300 issue of so long ago (look it up).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerBook_5300
Apple continues to deliver beyond my expectations. These are issues that will be fixed. I find it easy to forgive these problems because Apple continues to provide great hardware, software, and service on many other areas, so their satisfaction record is still pretty high.
As long as they DO fix it, I'm fine with the minor inconvenience. - TWiThead, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1You assume correctly. I'm a Mac user and all-around Apple fan, but unlike some, I don't worship Steve Jobs or give the company a free pass when things go wrong.
If MobileMe isn't something that its provider can be "proud of" until December, the subscription fee should be waived (or at least reduced) in the interim. And if this were a Microsoft service, many of the same individuals defending Apple would agree with me. - ilikechaitea, on 08/06/2008, -3/+4are you serious? Apple has a tiny user base, they throw words around like "Enterprise" and "Business", and when it comes to the crunch they fail, and only weeks later mention it might have been a mistake.
Microsoft software serves millions of businesses everyday, and if anything goes down even for a minute, its considered a significant failure which they address.
My point is opposite to yours, in that when Apple promise something and fail people are like beaten housewives, they just make excuses for Apple.
When MS fail, is unacceptable. The difference being that MS actually focus on enterprise support, and realize that even a minute of downtime is unacceptable. Apple doesn't care. - MacHarborGuy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1in other news, extremists say that the sun revolves around the earth and the moon is made of Wisconsin's finest cheddar.
- MacHarborGuy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1HEY, CyberDog was my favorite MacOS 9 internet application. Web browser, email and FTP client all in one yet didn't feel like a bloated mess.
- EdgeOfEpsilon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1I'm reasonably sure that your opinion of him is not a huge priority to Steve Jobs.
- EntropyFan, on 08/05/2008, -1/+2I don't think pointing out that Apple releases flawed products is 'bashing'.
Obviously, the fan club feels anything but resounding applause is 'bashing' - dalesmatrix, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1First couple of days were shaky, but from then on I've been getting push email, calendar and contacts on my iPhone without any problem whatsoever. Perhaps the problems were more for people using the web interface, but I've had pretty smooth sailing on the iPhone.
- MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -3/+4I don't think you appreciate the "gravity" of his comment
- bradspry, on 08/05/2008, -1/+1There's only one problem Steve... MobileMe was intentionally designed as the only way to keep a personal contact list when an Exchange account is activated. Yes, you can put your personal contacts into Exchange, but mixing personal and work is a bad idea.
