- MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -9/+85Sometimes I just don't have time for 4 button pushes; I know how Steve feels.
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@ninjab3ar
Its pedantic I know, but the quote says "find" the song in 3 clicks, not "play" the song in 3 clicks. In that respect, the iPod achieved the objective. - MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19If Apple bought digg, the interface would be in Aqua.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22But does the amount of revolutions count?
- jtjdt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Yah, he threw an iPod at the wall, and said "I DON'T WANNA SEE IT IF I CAN'T GET TO A SONG IN 3 PUSHES OF A BUTTON!" thus, The Scroll wheel was invented!
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Watch any biographies about him or read a book, honestly, he is an *****, but hes a team driving *****.
You gotta be a special kind of dick to turn down perfectly qualified software engineers simply because they wear suits into interviews (which he used [still is?] do) - CamperBob, on 10/12/2007, -12/+22More important, you now know how Steve's *wife* feels...
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I work for people who act like Steve Jobs when it comes to demanding the best(and we all use PCs, at work). That kind of setting the bar high is what makes products outstanding. Anyone who would rather not work for a boss like that should go work for a company that makes mediocre products. Being fast, beautiful, and intuitive is what makes products like the iPod sell so well. More than that - when you work your ass off to make something great and your boss tells you to make it better... and then you do... that's the most rewarding thing ever. The world needs more demanding "*****" like Jobs because programmers and engineers usually don't 'get it', when it comes to useability. Your mom probably does. I work with a bunch of programmers and there's a reason why there are people who don't understand programming have a say in the outcome. Even if you're not happy with the feature set, there's a lot to be learned from programs like iTunes, or Acquisition, or Quicksilver (I use a mac at home.. can ya tell?). Features aren't everything and the iPod proves that. Other mp3 players may offer more features but until they act like a tv or a good radio (or an iPod) they still suck, overall. If I tape a knife, spoon, can opener, and a remote control together, it's just a collection of stuff taped together. If I'm watching lots of different media on my tv, I should be able to switch it on or off with one button. If I buy a game system and I have to navigate a menu system to get to the game that's already inside, then that system isn't performing its main job well. My 2 Cizzents.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Yeah, that is why I think this makes no sense. I find the wheel revolving much more time consuming than the clicks.
I think they may have introduced this by now, but I would like an options to have a intermediate screen that categorizes songs on my mini. eg:
a-c
d-f
....
w-z
so if I want to play a song called "debra" i would first choose d-f, then find debra, saving me few seconds of scrolling through a long list of 1000s of songs. - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Playlists > Playlist Name > Song = 3 presses
Or
Songs > Song Name
2 presses. You can put any Music subcategory on the main menu. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I've worked with people like him before, they are painful and do more harm then good.
People credit jobs with all this success, but ot be honest he's nothing but a glory hogging prick. the way these stories are written anyone would think steve is in there clobbering the bits together himself. - crawdad62, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12If there was a more obvious attempt at trolling I haven't seen it.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8So what happens when Steve retires/dies? He's been "out" of the company before, and Apple just about self destructed...
N. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14yeah.. they're working on idigg.com as we speak. it's got a bunch of glassy looking buttons and cost way too much to develop.
- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12wow 5 years ago today Apple stock was at 9 Dollars a share now its at 81 dollars a share and the stock has split since then,
what ever Steve is doing he is doing it right! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8there would be Oranges without him...
- fjvwing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8But does Mr Jobs actually cheer his team members on, as the article says good managers should do? Yes he sets the bar high, but it seems, in all the stories, that somehow he both demotivates his workers with razzing, and still gets them to perform. Or are all the stories one sided?
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7i absolutely agree that he is an ass hole, but to say that Apple's (or Pixar's) success would have been achieved without him is simply obtuse. It takes lots of brilliant minds to do what those companies have done, but its ultimately Jobs' vision that has materialized.
- greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12@crawdad62
Crapple is a pile of crap LOL
Steve Jobs sux LOL what's with the turtleneck
Crapple sux b/c u can only use it on aple computers!!!1!!!1!11 LOL - pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14I wonder if he ever tired to microwave a pop tart...it takes a whole 3 SECONDS! (Literally).
No seriously, the directions are on the box. See! If you didnt read this, you could have microwaved about 10 individual pop tarts by now! JEEZ GO MAN!! - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@rm999:
When you scroll for a couple of revolutions, I transparent letter is displayed that shows what letter you are current on. Helps in those long list.
There is also a search feature now, which works like a charm. - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13From what I've been hearing about Jobs lately, he sounds like an ass, now don't take this the wrong way, Apple products are great, and from what I've see, he is needed to make them this great, however he is in no way shape or form a "god", or someone perfect. I think the fanboys© just have to deal with it, suck up to Apple, not Steve Jobs.
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Halodude1489: APPLE STORIES IN THE APPLE CATEGORY??? SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!!1111
As one wise Digg commenter said:
"If you want I can help you build a bridge so you can get the ***** over it." - davotoast, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7once again, something gets posted and dugg and moves on to the front page because people are interested in it. if people weren't interested in it it wouldn't be here. people happen to like reading stories about apple, thus the stories get promoted.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5rm999:
You could use iTunes to build smart playlists for "Name -- Starts With -- A" ,"Name -- Starts With -- B" etc.
You can combine multiple rules into one smart playlist so you could have a playlist for A-D for example and recreate exactly what you are asking for.
It's a little cumbersome to do the first time, but once it's done, these playlist are updated automatically as you add songs.
So there's a way to add this functionality to your iPod thanks to the power of the iPod/iTunes combo.
Is there any other player/program combo that can create and use smart playlists? - M4cb0y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.idigg.com
"idigg COMING SOON!"
Hmm... - omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6A lot of haters out there – no one sees how demanding standards can lead to quality, refined products? The final aim for all Apple products is an intuitive interface for the user. Apple is excelling at that right now. They've earned my business to be sure.
- jake57, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3see http://www.threesecondsmores.ytmnd.com/
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sounds like Steve needs to tag his music properly.
I spent a good 6hrs this weekend getting the last of my music from my Napster/Kazaa days properly tagged & named. It's only a small amount of my overall collection (~300 songs out of 8,500). But when the tagging is screwd it makes for a frustrating iPod experience.
Now I can literally find anything in 2-3 clicks (and lots of scrolling). So yes, his analness really does pay off in a way. - reeder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From what I have heard from Apple employees, having Jobs interested in your project is both the best and worst thing that can happen at Apple. I guess you have to have that level of prestige and industry understanding to make a that sort of approach work.
But *****, he gets it done with the tough love. - Chesh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7"Steve would be horribly offended [if] he couldn't get to the song he wanted in less than three pushes of a button,” another engineer said.
He just sounds like a pretentious ***** to be honest. - invader, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I like Brian Regan's pop-tart-nuking jokes better..
- crawdad62, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Fly off the handle? Fly off the handle? You've got to be kidding. I guess now I'm sort of flying off the handle because the first rule of trolls on the internet is not to feed into them.
Had you said Steve Jobs sucks because....... or Apple is crap because......... then maybe I wouldn't have given your little response anymore than a glance. But when you blatantly give such a broad statement without explaining yourself all you're after is a response. Any response and that my friend is this:
aleahey=troll
I would've had the same response had you posted the same drivel about Bill Gates so don't even go there with the fanboy crap. - aleahey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Where are your facts? You claim I backed none of my *opinions* up with facts, and yet, provided none for your own.
Where did I say that Bill Gates was any better, or any more a 'visionary'?
Someone not riding Steve Jobs' dick doesn't necessarily mean they're Bill Gates fanboys, either. - flipmeat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Engineers _usually_ don't get it?
- aleahey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"Next generation innovations" Like what? White laptops? Hot.
- longman2g, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes it was
- bmson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A want to work as a click counter at Apple
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OK, let's talk about how many button-pushes it takes to go from not shuffling an artist's songs to shuffling...what, a DOZEN or so? And if you have hundreds of artists/albums/songs, let's talk about the crick in your thumb from scrolling wildly to get to one near the bottom (and nearly always scrolling past the item you're looking for, and having to go back).
Its typical Apple rhetoric to talk about the things that work well with the oh-so-simple iPod interface, and ignore the tasks that are downright onerous. Has the iPod's interface improved since version 1? How much has it even changed? - padfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Learn what the hell you are talking about.. Last time I bought a mac it came with a multi-button mouse. Admittedly not a very good one, but it still had more than one button. Sorry Troll.
- aleahey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I posted what I posted because it was about the third Apple story to make the frontpage in as many hours. Also, its true.
I have since expanded my comment, and yet you are still commenting on my first comment.
How is throwing out 'troll' labels any different than what I said? Just curious. Seems exactly the same to me.
I don't personally care. I give my opinion and if you don't like it, you and all the other Apple fanatics (see, no fanboy) can (and do) digg me down. Deal with it.
That's the beauty of digg, its not all about you and your opinion. - mjar81, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Stevie J. is my hero.
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1idigg you digg we all digg
- davidmackey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1steve sounds like a little bitch (paris hilton).
- shibbay, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Which is why he's rich and working on the next great innovations in hardware and software....and you're posting on digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1More button pushes needed by default with a Mac mouse. Sorry Crapple-users.
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2If you weren't such an idiot, you would state your opinion with facts to back it up, not just randomly yell ***** that wastes space. Grow up.
- Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Well duh you *****, take away bill gates from M$ and its the same damn thing. Get over it and go play some CS or something. Christ.
~Dot - aleahey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I'm not trolling, its just my opinion. If you're imbalanced enough to fly off the handle about it, thats not my problem.
Steve Jobs is severely, incredibly, hugely overrated. He has a lot of people making him look good. Apple designers design, coders code, and Steve complains that it takes too many clicks to get things done. How is this "visionary" material?
Jobs might be very good at nitpicking and whining improvements in to existance, in fact, I have no doubt that he is. However, if you were to take away all the real talent from Apple, you would very quickly see how little he has to do with its success. -
