- akarpo, on 12/09/2007, -3/+46He doesn't have Jobs' shrewdness or megalomaniac personality that is required to subjugate these stubborn media companies.
- deadbaby, on 12/09/2007, -4/+36I really don't think Apple would pick Jobs successor based on sales of the iPhone in the UK.
- damndj, on 12/09/2007, -1/+29You are all forgetting that Steve Jobs cannot die, so there should be no discussion!
- David513, on 12/09/2007, -2/+30As much as I respect Ive as a designer, I can't imagine him running the company. I follow Apple news closely, and I've never heard ANYbody who knows anything suggest that Ive could be Jobs' successor.
- naonao, on 12/09/2007, -0/+24What the hell are you talking about? Your comment makes no sense and has no relevance to this article. Just seems like an excuse to bash Apple and Brits in one go.

http://9to5mac.com/jony-ive-next-apple-ceo-5842458 ... - HappyScrappy, on 12/09/2007, -2/+21If you've ever dealt with him, the answer is no.
If for no other reason, he's too introverted to be the CEO of Apple. This is a company that makes its bones with its CEO up there talking about the new hot ***** they have. Ive is not a good public speaker, he's not even a decent one.
Nothing against the guy, but he's not the one. - mrsteveman1, on 12/09/2007, -2/+13Nicely done, you threw in just enough racism and some *****-erotic fantasizing at the same time!
- clickmyface, on 12/09/2007, -2/+11Ive is exactly where he wants to be. Schiller and Cook know a hell of a lot about Apple and the industry and they work well with Steve. The Chief Operating Officer does a hell of a lot at Apple, so Cook is most likely next. None the less, Jobs has devoted his ENTIRE LIFE to this company and I highly doubt what makes him happy in the next 15 years will be anything other than Apple. He'll be around for quite awhile.
- PayneX, on 12/09/2007, -1/+9If he holds off long enough, Jesus should be around to take his place.
- FHKE, on 12/09/2007, -2/+10If he becomes the CEO he has to deal with all administrative stuff and spends less time on designing!
- buddhistMonkey, on 12/09/2007, -0/+5Jonathan Ive is perhaps the finest industrial designer in the world, and he's played a vital role in Apple's renaissance. But CEO? I tend to think it's a poor idea.
Steve Jobs' genius is that he recognizes the genius in other people, and puts them to work doing the things that they do better than anyone else. That's why Jonathan Ive is Apple's Senior Vice-President of Industrial Design. It's what he does better than anyone else in the world.
Why would Steve Jobs take someone who is at the top of his profession, and shoehorn him into a position for which he's ill-suited? Apple would be poorer for a lack of Ive's design talent while he's busy preparing keynote presentations and trying to negotiate with mega-media companies. - inactive, on 12/09/2007, -3/+8Link or it didn't happen.
- noots, on 12/09/2007, -1/+6and people wonder why he declines most interviews. They were talking about how apple has developed and just general history of the design, then the reporter crowbars some completley off-topic question about batteries.
way to be a *****. - kelly, on 12/09/2007, -2/+6There's a lot more to Apple than pretty cases.
- bradspry, on 12/09/2007, -2/+6My Little Jony, minus the mane.
- marciot, on 12/09/2007, -2/+6I wonder what Steve himself thinks about all this succession talk. Does he accept it gracefully, or does his overlarge ego cause him to fire anyone who suggests he might be getting a little old?
- HappyScrappy, on 12/09/2007, -0/+3As an example, Steve Jobs accepted Ive's design award for him even though Ive was at the event.
http://www.jonathanive.com/biography/ - kelly, on 12/09/2007, -1/+4Aesthetics is only one of many things that make Apple products better than their competitors. Those who attribute Apple relatively recent success to their attractive looking products are the same delusional people who wonder why the HP and Dells of the world aren't matching Apple's success by trying to making their boxes more pretty.
- mr5150, on 12/09/2007, -1/+4Ives is no CEO material, he's a creative introvert with lots of cash and why would you give that up and jump into the frypan?..If he's anything like I think he is he'll shun fame and just keep reaping the fortunes.
- Ireland, on 12/09/2007, -0/+3You lying fool.
- Trojan, on 12/09/2007, -2/+5NewsFlash: Kevin Rose to take over for Steve Jobs in 2018. The scrappy late 30s kid that revolutionized how popular news is selected and distributed is now CEO of the company that revolutionized the PC world. Nerds everywhere rejoice. In other news, Alex Albrecht still using 15 year old Lenovo and making Pizza commercials.
- cfuse, on 12/09/2007, -0/+3I would expect, given Mr Jobs personality, that the leadership of Apple will be pried from his cold dead hands. With great difficulty, if zombie Jobs has anything to say about it.
- starlord1, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2Seriously you want an electronics grad with a specialisation in DSP to stand up every January and July and provide an hour+ preso - a preso that is supposed to wow investors, engage consumers and excite fans into a frenzy... Lord save us all.
- aaabatteries, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2As much as I like the guy, I find it highly improbable for him to be the next CEO. If he is--great, and I will wish him the best of luck.
- iigloo, on 12/09/2007, -1/+3They should hire Mister Splashy Pants, imo.
- michaelchyles, on 12/09/2007, -4/+6It has been publicly stated by Apple that Eric Schmidt would take over the role of CEO of Apple is Steve Jobs were to die. I assume this is more accurate than the bone head who wrote the story. He is inaccurate across many items in hi writing.
- wjah4, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2I agree - Forstall also has Steve's presentation chops - his original pitch of Time Machine was right up there with Steve's best.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2He drives an Aston Martin - There can be no question of this mans intelligence or competence.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2I think they should use ive and I'd take ive's old position.
- HappyScrappy, on 12/09/2007, -0/+2I'm not saying it's impossible, but Scott doesn't even report to Steve Jobs, he reports to Bertrand Serlet. So before Forstall gets his shot, you'll have to see Scott promoted to report to Jobs (which presumably will also include Bertrand leaving).
You simply can't jump a guy over other people to be CEO and not have serious anger resent within the company. - utharvey, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1I thought his presentation of the iPhone at WWDC this summer was crappy - this is the guy that started shaking and said "I'm kinda nervous up here" while fumbling through the iPhone interface. As a result, many people were questioning how good the touchscreen actually performed.
he drives a porsche cut me off one day on de Anza, i also heard he is kinda a dick, but I've heard the same about Jobs. dic genius? - EvilAnimator, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Beats the hell of out Steve Ballmer. Suck it, Wintards!
- EvilAnimator, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1What a dumb joke.
- starlord1, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Why is "everything else an afterthought" why can't it be along the exact same design process as the underlying code ? The function set ? The algorithm optermisation ? The Code refactoring ? User interface design is paramount to functionality.
- Cherubim, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Woz is an old-school hacker and experimenter. He's stated numerous times that the corporate rat-race is not for him. He's an engineer - not an executive.
- kreatre2007, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1I think Ives would be a great successor. It would finally put to rest my worries about who is going to be the top man at Apple after Jobs quits, dies, gets fired.... etc. I guess this time, Jobs has too much power to get canned :)
- CaptRR, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1I sense a disturbance in the force, as though a million fan-boy's screamed out in pain, and where then silenced.
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I'd tap that ass.
- Lawr, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1distracted by banner ad for Clarkson's article, sorry.
- fungke, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1"In other news, Alex Albrecht still using 15 year old Lenovo and making Pizza commercials"
Brilliant! - dandonia, on 12/10/2007, -1/+2Us Brits dont need to know who is running the company to know that ipods, macs and iphones are cool. We dont think like that
- diggerdong, on 12/09/2007, -1/+2I thought Steve Jobs was Jesus.
- Ireland, on 12/09/2007, -1/+2I'd be interested to know when you dealt with him?
- nphase, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1It would be dumb for them to make talent like his deal with paperwork and press, et al.
what's that old adage? "People who cant program, manage" or something - aliguana, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1but surely, thats what makes Apple products special? The whole experience? If he WAS a computer man, Apples would be metal boxes on racks, with 100 wires coming out of 100 ports, running some Linux Shell or something. No.. Apple products are DESIGN first, the programming/logistics come after.
- vacuum2440, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1big shoes to fill for sure
- inactive, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1You didn't get my point did you?
- muikano, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1no, not enough experience. Jobs has 10 years left. So where will Apple be in 5 years? It'll try to own the mobile appliance platform. iReaders, iPods, iPhones, mobile computing, networked. It's more important for the next CEO to have a degree in electrical engineering-specifically digital signals processing.
Face it, Jobs is a one of a million napoleon. The only way to keep things the way they are would be to clone him. You don't need to do that. Don't think Cook is the answer either.
Rodney McKay? - manoftheisland, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1good article.. but he is an artist... not a computer man.
