- Axlrose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Steve Jobs actually pulls police over for speeding, he is that awesome.
- mdshoreboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12several apple employees do not have plates... seeing as how I work there! You can pay a LOT of money to the DMV and they will allow you to drive without them. Sure you can recognize them in their car, no big deal, but at least you cannot take their license plate # and punch it into a computer and find out where they live!
- b04155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9yeah, because Y78-I94 sticks out WAY more than a car with no plates

Jobs car was the only one in the visitor lot w/o a plate. I was told that this was a California program for high profile people. If you look very closely, you'll notice that there is (or at least was) a small bar code where the license plate should be.
The funny thing is that not having a license plate makes the car stick out more. - jtw2e, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Courts in various states have consistently upheld the right of the citizen to travel (notice not "drive"). By virtue of the fact that one has such a right, this renders the idea of getting various licenses and permits to travel ludicrous. One abdicates his right to travel when he lowers himself to requesting permission for something that he has the right to do. For example, see Hassell v. State (194 SW2d, 400).
Unfortunately most of the people in this country do not understand their rights, nor how our government works or is supposed to work.
You have rights. You grant the government privileges. Not the other way around. - J!mbo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5In many states you are not required to have a licence plate on the front of your car. On the back however, as far as I know, everyone is required.
- tnoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Jobs can run around without plates, and I got a ticket for not having a front plate? How the hell does that work?
- djpants428, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Chuck Norris doesn't have liscense plates, but his vehicle is instantly recognizable as the one with the fist where the plate should be.
- RainForRent, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2You are poor.
Steve Jobs is not.
See the difference? - ghdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To suggest that he should have a license plate like everyone else in the area so that he'll blend in sounds more like a Microsoft theory: security through obscurity. If someone wanted to cause Jobs some harm, they're going to anyway. Taking away the license plate, however, doesn't seem like the brightest move. But I'm willing to bet that someone like Jobs doesn't usually roll alone or unwatched for his safety.
- Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4He used a jedi mind trick when he went to city hall. he waved his hand full of magical green papers in front of them and said. I dont need a license plate on my car.

- enjayenel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mdshoreboy is correct. There are a few cars in Apple's parking lot (as well as silicon valley highways) that have a little barcode instead of plates. I do not know how that works though. I assume police can scan them with a long distance barcode reader(?). I couldn't find any info on the web about these barcodes. Anyone know how they work?
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maybe Job's car is the only one without a plate, making his car instantly recognizable as Steve Job's.
- freshpow, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Where there just not enough pictures in the article for you?
- chicagofog, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1The bar code is the car's VIN number. All Mercedes have their VIN number there. If I took my plates off all three of my cars would look like that. Steve just does not have plates....
- goodvinboy, on 08/29/2009, -0/+0So will that bar code (if it really is on that car) identify the VIN number, if Jobs runs over someone, for example? Or does that mean that we should assume he is not guilty, whatever happens?

- nookieman, on 09/15/2008, -0/+0The bar code shows the vehicle's VIN. Similar sticker is seen behind the number plate on several car models.

- defaria, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0You have the right to travel and indeed the right to drive. You require a license to use a motorized vehicle on the public roads. IOW drive the tractor all over your farm but you can't take the tracker (or car or whatever) out on the interstate without a proper license.
