- AdonalFoyle, on 10/10/2008, -2/+32I don't get why people post pictures of the most random parts of the laptop. Why don't they just post a picture of the whole ***** thing?
- ZombieSociety, on 10/10/2008, -0/+21Yes, because when you aim your camera at the other side of that shell, it explodes.
- Elude107, on 10/10/2008, -5/+17It has ports! Stop the presses! What could they be? USB? Headphones? The innovation shown in these pictures is astounding.
- priegog, on 10/10/2008, -1/+9My guess?
This makes it obvious it's an intentional "leak" to viral-market it. - markmeinteil, on 10/10/2008, -7/+15I'd take the $1k hit for OS X alone. Tech specs and price don't mean crap IMO when it means I'm stuck with inferior software on that totally 'bad-azzz' HP laptop!
- nurbsenvi, on 10/10/2008, -4/+11Looks exactly like the old one.
- ZombieSociety, on 10/10/2008, -2/+9Wow, HP. Really, you could have forgone making that entire comment and just posted "hey, I make really bad decisions."
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2008, -4/+10Enjoy windows! ;)
- Pooley, on 10/10/2008, -1/+7Could someone explain the benefit of a notebook case made from a single piece of aluminium? I get that it's clever, but what's the actual point behind it?
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+7retort FAILURE
- petemorley, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6No.
"photos" - sudowrestler, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5The trackpad recognizes two-finger events. To right-click you tap two fingers simultaneously, if you have it set that way in preferences. One-finger tap, select; two-finger tap, select and right-click. One finger moves the pointer around, with two fingers you scroll vertically or horizontally. You don't need to use that single button a lot, much less feel a need for a second one.
- wevegotthejazz, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5HDCP does suck and I hate content proctection, but 'not' including HDCP support on an HDMI output device doesn't really benefit anybody. It only prevents you from playing HDCP content. which is pretty much excluded to Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies and PS3/360 games outputted through HDMI, and none of those things can be played on a Mac (yet) anyway.
Beside the point, an HDMI port on a macbook would be almost pointless in and of itself considering most HDTVs have DVI or VGA ports, and DVI-D connections can output in HDMI with a small inexpensive dongle and support HDCP. - Vst_kills, on 10/10/2008, -2/+7Thats impossible *****

For the record I built PCs for 10 years. After 1 day of having a mac, I saw the light. My work output must have increased by at least 5 times..So yes, I am a fan boy. - metalgel, on 10/10/2008, -1/+5hp pavilion dv6700. 2.5ghz core 2 duo, 3gb ram, 320gb hd, 12cell lithium battery, geforce 8400gs 15" screen. cost $1500 with tax
dual boots vista and linux beautifully and i havent had an issue yet.
macbook pro 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, 250gb hd, 15" screen, $2050. upgrade the ram, hd, and battery, add tax and youre probably looking at about 2400.
too expensive for my taste for an os i dont care for and when i can get the same specs for 750-1000 cheaper. :) - mstrebe, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4Dude, two-finger tap=right click. How long have you not known that?
- metalgel, on 10/10/2008, -2/+6actually im enjoying linux ;)
- christophocles, on 10/10/2008, -7/+11wake me up when it has esata port(s) and a proper two-button trackpad. ctrl+click for right-click is not acceptable to me. also the 17" should have a numeric keypad. i guess i just don't really 'get' apple. function is more important to me than the fact that it's forged out of a single piece of aluminum...
- arjie, on 10/10/2008, -2/+6I don't mean to be _that guy_ but I just priced out a Dell XPS M1530 vs. the lowest Macbook Pro and:
Macbook Pro: $2,299.00 - T8300, 4GB RAM, 200 GB SATA 7200 RPM, Intel 802.11n (I assume)
Dell XPS M1530: $1,544 - T8300, 4GB RAM, 250 GB SATA 7200 RPM, Verizon Wireless (it was bundled in), Intel 802.11n
If there are any other differences in tech spec, I'd be happy to know. I'm sure another manufacturer _could_ get you cheaper prices. While people like markmeinteil may think that OS X (and perhaps the look of the Macbook) is worth the price, it is true that you can get a much cheaper laptop than the MBP from elsewhere. - Jordanballa17, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4i'm worried about that guys's hand
- m00nmaster, on 10/10/2008, -1/+5So long as it does not have HDCP.
- mrBitch, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4I can't believe how many idiots now believe the "single piece of aluminium" rumour as fact.
- ehsteve23, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4my macbook pro backspace key has a ←, like lots of keyboards do
- phrozted, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4Am I the only one who has some difficulty typing on the regular Macbook or Macbook Air keyboards? The space between the keys is weird--my fingers sometimes get caught. One of many reasons why I love my Macbook Pro is how its keys all run together--makes typing a breeze. I hope the new Macbook Pro doesn't have the keyboard we see on the other models right now. ;/ Then again, I wouldn't be surprised.
- ez12a, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3i wouldn't say exactly, but similar.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4That's the whole thing metalgel. If you prefer OS X over Windows or Linux, then the price difference means little. I'm not going to belittle Windows (I have XP running in Bootcamp and use it all day without issue at work), but because I like OS X better I am more productive when using it. Others like Windows and/or Linux and most likely work better in those environments.
- bassfanatik, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3I just read your post, almost the same as mine. I will be very disappointed if they use the cheap MacBook keyboard!
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -3/+6Yes, I think PCs win on the price thing.
But it's like saying "My Honda Civic is cheaper than your Mercedes-Benz" - arjie, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Millsee: Well, the problem with that analogy is that it seems to imply a difference in performance. Are there any benchmarks demonstrating a significant difference between OS X and Vista running the same program? Perhaps ffmpeg or something cross-platform that is also multi-threaded would be a good idea to check that.
I'm sure Mac users feel that Macs are more productive; otherwise, I see no reason why they would use them. Personally, I prefer a linux distribution. However, my previous post was simply to talk about technical specifications. I don't see why it should be buried, it's easily verifiable and I can provide screenshots if that is too much. - galahan, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Soooo, macbook got it, desktops (wireless and non-wireless) got it, Air got it...nah why would they put it on the Pros...
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Good God, are you really so dense that you can't understand what I said? What is the difference betwwen a verified rumor and an unverified rumor. Nothing. A rumor is just that until facts are known at which point it's no longer a rumor.
- mrBitch, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Millsee, I'm right there with you. I was developing apps since the DOS and Windows 3.1 days. It took me a week to feel really comfortable with using OS X, but now I use OS X for everything except gaming (still keep my Windows partition for that, since that's all Windows is good for now).
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -2/+4Apple's running out of ideas, that's the point.
- avanor, on 10/10/2008, -2/+4Who cares now that apple already announced their next convention. It's next week. Just wait...
Reading all the rumors is only interesting when you don't know when they're being announced. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2008, -2/+4Shows what you know. This is an actual verified rumor.
- bassfanatik, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2That would be...
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2That's not very Apple-like. Apple knows if they change the appearance radically, then all of the current MacBook owners will ditch their current models for the newest ones, just on looks alone.
And they say HP buyers are bad decision makers... - m00nmaster, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2What's wrong with that? It is a beautiful device. Compared to the latest "artist" version and color skins of other top manufacturers, I say keep the simplicity and elegance.
- mrBitch, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2@lancedice RE: " .. then again, it wouldn't be the first time Apple copied Sony. "
Wow, I wonder where Sony got the idea for their latest iMac clone :
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/10/sony_vaio_js1_se ... - nicc, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2if you read the article it explicitly mentions the release latch for the battery/HD compartment.
my guess is RAM access is in the same compartment... - bassfanatik, on 10/10/2008, -1/+3I hate the keyboard on the MacBook/MacBook Air. They feel cheap after using the MacBook Pro for so long. I really hope they use the same or very similar keyboard on the Pro.
- Nouman6, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2'people'? I've been thinking apple does this ***** on purpose. Hell if I had a device not yet released I know I'd take pictures of the whole damn thing.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -2/+4But it's like saying "My Honda Civic is cheaper than your Mercedes-Benz"
No it's not. Apples are not the Mercedes of computers.
It's more like saying "My Honda Civic is cheaper than your Honda Civic with customized rims" - TokenBlack, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2oh that's cool I guess. I'm not.
- mrBitch, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2@Elranzer RE: " Apple knows if they change the appearance radically, then all of the current MacBook owners will ditch their current models for the newest ones, just on looks alone. "
Wow, you really do call yourself out as an idiot don't you?
Apple's MacBook Pro laptops currently use the same designs as the old PowerBooks, going all the way back to 2001.
You show me any other laptop manufacturer that has used the same case design since 2001.
You really are a dipstick. - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -2/+3Wrong. Sony's keyboard has Backspace AND Delete keys, whereas Apple's only has a Backspace key that's mislabeled with "Delete".
- shnarf, on 10/10/2008, -3/+4looks like they are using that crappy keyboard that is on the others. I have on of those on my macbook and then the conventional one on my powerbook. There is no comparison.
- scheming, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2my problem with the case is it seems to be missing opening for memory expansion, hdd, etc... i have never owned a macbook pro, but i have seen one and believe i recall there being an open-able slot on the bottom for changing the memory. can anyone confirm or deny this?
