- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Cool, I hope this is the beginning of a complete international rollout.
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Sweepstakes as to what price they'll charge per episode?
$1.99 is 98p, which seems quite reasonable, so my guess is £1.49 - fenix61, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Canada nay?
- Cobainy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16So apple can overcharge the UK even more compared to other countries? ***** great.
- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9BitTorrent is unnecessarily complicated compared to iTunes, and takes too much work to get on an iPod. Also it would make the AppleTV a valuable purchase outside the US, seeing as it's almost completely useless for most people at the moment.
- coldfusion1970, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6If you think a torrent is easier than iTunes, then i think you're mad.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -1/+6Wait, so they sell you 5Gs without any "official" way to watch videos?
Silly sillies. - NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5In Australia there's Music Videos and Pixar shorts, not to mention video podcasts, I'd imagine it's the same for Britain.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If they charge a fair price I will be happy to pay up. If they end up charging 50% more than the Americans, then either iTunes or the copyright holders are too greedy and they won't get a dime from me.
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I think "fantastic" is a little strong for programs which aren't as good as bittorrent. I mean how is it that Apple, Channel 4 etc can charge people for downloads and still not deliver a service as good as something which is free?
- ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think you're missing the point... 4OD and iPlayer are platforms... the content is starting to be available in many different ways (virgin, bt vision)... what Apple offers is a very useable and well designed solution (Apple TV), plus a massive installed userbase (iPod)... all apple would need to introduce is rental facility for this to be worth it...
- coldfusion1970, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well luckily as a consumers your not forced to buy from the ITMS.
But i definitely will. - Easty, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5'bout time. Old chap.
- Lane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4anyone else read the title and wonder why anyone would pay for sourcetv and why it would be on itunes??
- ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i'd love to think that the iPlayer for OS X is actually going via iTunes... i doubt it but i'd love it.
- ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3We've been neglected for too long... i mean, man, we're good to apple really in this country.
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Because everyone in England is an aristocrat. You obviously don't work for a media company or you would know this
- jasperL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'd hope that any BBC content would be free, given we already pay enough for a TV license...
- TheDiceMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://www.itunesfairy.com/instructions.html - it works - trust me ;)
Japan, Oz, USA etc, just buy a voucher - Seph7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because the UK has a reputation for getting ripped off. Ipod games are £3.99 over here and music videos are £1.99.
- TheDiceMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes considering a music video/pixar is £1.99... I can't see it as high as £2.99 - I think they'll stick with the £1.99 plan or could stretch it out to £2.49
- frozenyoghurt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sounds like youuuuuuurrrr working for your car maaaaaaaaaaaannn
- Seph7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's ashame but guaranteed it will be the UK one otherwise it would drive watchers away from the tv stations over here and they would lose out on advertising. I think the thing I'm looking forward to is the ability to get movies.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2***** YOU!!!!
Spam a site that isn't full of geeks who know how to tell what version of apache you are running.
http://www.apacheweek.com/features/security-v1.3.3
In other words take that ***** to to myspace. - shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You can do this? I tried to buy stuff from the US store to no avail :(
- pierreb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Probably has to do with the contracts that are signed by Canadian broadcasters for shows. Would not be surprised that they have a clause that the Canadian broadcaster has the digital rights. Remember how long it took for the Canadian iTunes store to open?
- ardnut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What generally happens on all their pricing is that they just change the dollar sign to a pound sign and forget about exchange rates.
- ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Obvious thing would be to tie this in with new iPods and perhaps the details on who is getting the iPhone in Europe.
- TheDiceMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2As awesome as this news is, I can't see myself buying movies or TV shows from iTunes (perhaps the odd dope documentary or special here and there), but I like having the option now. That's the best thing about this news.
- Easty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thanks for that.
- ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sky makes very little original content, so is really just a distributor (like Virgin, Tiscali, BT), so that leaves BBC which has a public service remit to serve all platforms, and 4 has no interest in blocking this and is happy to distribute already on BT, Virgin, et al. The advantage iTunes has is it's a trusted brand, people already know how to use it, and the iPod (and, importantly the forthcoming iPhone)... if they can evolve the Apple tv into an IPTV or PVR flatform, even as modular addons.. they could have market sown up.
I wonder what DRM the iPlayer on Mac will use... i can't see how the BBC can have an easy or secure system unless they opt for Apple's and if they opt for Apples they have to work closely with Apple... this relationship would be great for both parties in the UK and abroad, so it makes sense, (speculation) that the iPlayer content might work via iTunes... if the BBC could get their content on iPods they'd be made up, surely? - ketha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2what a ***** eh? Digg'd him down.
- nayr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's sad; you even got dug up once.
- Gesiwuj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The problem is that the three main broadcasters are establishing their own On-Demand services. The BBC has their iPlayer, Channel 4 has 4:OD and Sky has Sky Anytime... but I hope they are put onto iTunes mainly for the fact that all three of these are Windows-only.
- sunnyboy06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Finally. How long have they been selling VIDEO iPods here while providing next to no content for it? Getting their act together. I just hope they don't just lug over American shows to the UK store. We want some good British content on there too. Cape Wrath, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, Stargate, House and all that.
I do hope the pound comes down in the exchange rate though - it may encourage Apple to charge us lower high prices.
Still, a video format converter and BitTorrent client are a hell of a lot cheaper. Good move though, just hope it's bloody true. - Seph7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3You mean the 4OD and Iplayer services I can't even use because all the computers in my house are either Vista, OSX or Linux. Yea their fantastic.
- TheDiceMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What the *****? Do you wanna steal the clothes I'm wearing too??
- TheSeeker11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It needs to be said - BitTorrent FTW.
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Who is Apple offering the massive installed user base to?
- juicys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought you meant Source: TV. This article is so much less interesting than I thought it would be.
(Source: TV is a way to watch league matches on source games through steam) - Cobainy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You're
- Cobainy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How is it sad that I know basic grammar?
Tool. - ketha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Man, that's cool. Looking at the american iTunes though... even with the exchange rate it's too expensive for content that essentially free on tv... movies make a bit more sense.
- nayr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ok, let's compare.
One click (wait, maybe two, plus a password!) download from itunes.
Now, on bitorrent, you need to find the video (if it exists), and find one with plenty of seeds. After that, most likely you need to wait for hours while it downloads. Then, you need to convert it.
Thanks, but I'll stick to itunes. - MrFrosty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is great news. Being able to get shows and movies from itunes make life just that little bit tidier and hassle free. As for the comment about uk rivals 4od and iplayer, you've got to be joking. Both services use dreadful, clunky windows software. I tried 4od on my windows machine just out of interest and it was a utterly useless. Apple will have great content, at a fair price and it will all work beautifully. They have no rival in the uk until someone else can do something better. As for stealing content using bit torrent, thats just for murky turds.
- mikesay98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why would they be so expensive?
- simd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, I don't think either Apple or the BBC are willing to pay for the bandwidth.
- TheDiceMan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3This is good, not only for the British, but for anyone else wanting to buy British content, just buy a UK iTunes vouchers and off you download! Just a shame the GBP is so strong :)
- MarrowMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes Canada PLS...and there should be no need to change prices, either!
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Great content at a fair price? You mean the price which is currently unknown?
