- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21And so it begins......The advent of AppleTV will see a ton of new content start to appear on iTunes. Hopefully soon in 720P HD. :-)
- seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Nice. Hopefully the AppleTV will draw other companies as well. Fox needs to get off their collective butts and put House on the service as well!
- Guagloves, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12hooray for News Radio!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9When did Sony buy Fox?
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Honestly I'm a little surprised that there wasn't more announcements the past few weeks, given the release of the Apple TV.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for HBO content and WWE content. It's great, with iTunes you can give a big F-U to the cable companies and still download stuff legally, and still save money. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hopefully now they will launch movies & TV outside the USA.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sony BMG is 50% owned by Sony (and the other 50% by Bertlesmann). The rest of Sony, such as Sony Pictures (aka Columbia Pictures), Sony Consumer, SonyEricsson, and SCE(A) had nothing to do with it [the rootkit fiasco]. Thus if you buy a PSP/PS3 or Sony television/movie content through iTunes, you are not rewarding them.
If you want to punish "Sony" for the rootkit fiasco, then don't buy any music from the artists signed to SonyBMG. Period.
Logic slays your trollish behavio(u)r. - Radan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, sadly that will most likely happen. The same thing happened when they were about to open the regular Music Store. Bah, I don't demand much in my life. I simply want to be able to buy movies online, and sync them with my 3G iPhone, yeah and a Multi Touch MacBook Pro.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Over the past 3 years or so, Hell turned into an ice rink. This latest freeze is quite expected.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Bring on HBO! I wanna watch the Sopranos and don't want to have to get HBO again.
- boomshakalaka, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11@antialias
If only there were some way to put that content onto a medium of some sort. something that would work for storage as well as playback. maybe a disc of some sort. a disc that would be versitle enough to store not only video but also data as well.
if only science and technology had advanced thus far. i guess there is the future to dream of. - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4alecks: ya, no one would ever want to watch arrested development or 24 or lost or the twilight zone or star trek more than once
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Radan,
I get the feeling Apple isn't too happy with you Scandanavians-rather than starting with Sweden, they may just decide to end everything over there :P

Exactly how are you supposed to burn iTunes shows to a playable DVD? Apple's DRM does not currently allow any of their video content to be burned to a playable DVD. I'm not saying it can't be done, you just can't do it without breaking the law. - Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I too look forward to true HD content, but who has that much hard drive space? The iTunes episodes are 640X480 currently and are around 500 megs each. Bump that up to 1280x720 res and you are near, if not over, 2 gigs per episode. Now this is just your average 42 minute(1 hour broadcast) show. A 2 hour movie could break 5 gigs.
A 250 gig hard drive totally devoted to iTunes content would hold roughly 20 movies and 75 tv episodes.
Unless you've got 500 gigs of space or more, you're not going to have a very big library of content to watch. And that's not even accounting for backing all that content up. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have a funny feeling that this really can't be anything other than a strategic alliance of sorts. Think about it, Sony's content management/purchasing software has always blown and been windows only. They could potentially benefit with this, as Apple does by having the ability to sell Sony's content. I think this space is worth watching.
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...what about Sony movies?
- tdskate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That would be awesome!
- Rixta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And how about some international content? Give me some shows / sports from England, Australia etc.
- ZPWeeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmmm... Sony has a huge movies division.... Maybe we can look forward to that going up?
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wish this announcement was more of a strategic alliance - considering the implications of the News Corp./NBC Universal announcement earlier this week - and less of a licensing PR move.
It is long overdue for Sir Howard Stringer to do what his predecessor failed to do, and that is to accept a partnership deal with Steve Jobs on the iTunes Store if the offer is still on the table. Just imagine the shot-in-the-arm an iTunes agreement would do for the PSP and the PS3. It would also benefit Apple by deflecting any pending/near-future criticism of the iTunes Store not being open enough for non-Apple hardware (even if legally such criticisms have been deflected in the US and most of the EU).
Now, before the over-zealous Apple fanbois chime in, the AppleTV and the PS3 are not competitors, and thus an iTunes streaming capable PS3 won't directly compete with Apple but in fact can boost the PS3 competitively against the Xbox360 and Microsoft's interconnected living room ambitions. Thus such a move is good for both Apple and Sony, and bad for Microsoft. Furthermore, giving the PSP iTunes capabilities won't hurt iPod sales because as it already stands, the PSP is the second best selling MP3 player on the market, so it might as well play iTunes Store content as well. Once again, that would strengthen both Apple and Sony against Microsoft and its pending Zune 2.0.
Plus, getting the Sony Vaios preloaded with iTunes wouldn't hurt either.
But besides all of that, I don't see the current deal including any Sony International media productions. Such as say *Hex* which Sony International doles - err, doled - out to SkyTV in the UK and BBC America here in the States. I can always use more Jemima Rooper goodness... - munky100, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Good for Sony... glad iTunes is such a hit!
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, sooner or later that will happen, considering Apple is one of the companies developing Blu Ray.
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/general_information/Section-14009/Index.html - Dihuko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4And I thought Sony was keeping their content to work on their new enhanced Sony Connect store that would work with the/my PSP. Now that I think about it, wasn't that supposed to come out last Summer? Good thing I hacked my PSP and went with homebrew. :D
- hydrosnowman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damn...I swore to myself I wouldn't download anything from itunes. Now News Radio is going to be available. Is News Radio even available on DVD?
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
I'd prefer to see *Rome* in semi-HD goodness, especially since the Season 1 box set has not been released on Blu-Ray yet. - UrbanVoyeur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In other news, Hell freezes over.
- nacharya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hd movies available to download with blu-ray releases is what i see
- WardenRant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unholy alliance between Apple and Sony?
- SHaR87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Will Seinfeld finally arrive on iTMS?
- alecks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4most people, myself included, only watch something once... seriously... i can't see myself watching the same episode of any show more than once.. unless i missed something and it was to understand it better.
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ boomshakalaka
Burning movies to dvd discs totally removes the convenience of using iTunes/AppleTV. Swapping out discs to watch content is nearing it's dinosaur stage. in 5-10 years I think the idea of having to put physical media into a device to play/watch something will be a thing of the past. With on demand, IPTV, and DVR, physical media just isn't an option for many of us anymore. - news234, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hi,guys. You can download Charlie's Angels movie here - http://dvdramworld.com/details/movie/Charlie%27s+Angels-40045.html
- lakuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think that Apple will team up with Sony and they will stream iTunes through the Playstation Network for all PS3 owners!!
- bakerjeff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Cool. I can't wait for that.
http://www.artmediaproductions.com/ - MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Like Sony or not, this is huge for Apple!
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4@Apple inc:
How about releasing something outside the US for a change, then? Starting with Sweden. - miekl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Yeah, and what about The Simpsons?
- philbutler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Funny, I wrote a story about this two days ago and noone saw it! Nice find though, I am glad that Digg's blocking algorithm is not hosing this domain too, at least you guys can digg this version. Hell, I will even digg it to show you what a sport I am LOL.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2LOL ROFLMAAAAO, ROFLMAO LOOOOL!
- rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1"Is News Radio even available on DVD?"
yeah probably Blue-Ray only,etc
blech - yujie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Can God of War come to the Wii and Xbox360?
- fcekuahd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0So what. Only an idiot buys DRM'd material.
- Hackzaur, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Ya! I can't wait until every show and video goes through Apple. A Corporate Youtube!
- rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Also begins the era of two different fanboys making sweet, sweet love, all niiiiiight long
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
People dancing all in the street
See the rhythm all in their feet
Life is good wild and sweet
Let the music play on
(play on, play on)
Feel it in your heart
And feel it in your soul
Let the music take control
Were going to party
Liming, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing my song! - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Remember the Sony DRM/Rootkit scandal.
Please continue to boycott all Sony products.
Sony (Sony BMG music) was sued by the states of New York, California, and Texas, and also by the (Federal) Justice Department...but they never even offered so much as an apology to the public, after screwing up the computers of so many people who had bought their overpriced music CDs.
Don't buy ANYTHING from Sony...EVER! - ipodsweatshop, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6Until there is only AppleTV, then they'll start charging you each time you watch something, or by the minute. And NEVER say that won't happen, Apple has stockholders that hold more sway than anything Jobs says and all they care about is the millions and billions, white plastic be damned!
DRM is defective, don't give money to Apple for guaranteed-broken movies.

What is Digg?
