- wjglenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Why not skip the article instead of taking the time to leave a comment about how bored you are with it?
Not really trying to be rude, but I get kind of bored reading all the comments from people complaining about this kind of thing. - yonnermark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10imagewell was my favourite from the list. thanks
- 42PhoeniX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7 One of the few apps he forgot was the Unarchiver, this basically replaces StuffIt. Oh yeah, and Overflow.
- Jeffrey903, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7TrimTheFat - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20404 does the same thing as Xslimmer, but is free.
- roxics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Paparazzi! looks cool. There have been several times I've had to manually use photoshop to stitch together screenshots of my websites just because they are so long and don't fit on one screen. Thanks
- greenldr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The small apps I use on a daily basis: #1) Overflow - I can't say enough good about this launcher app. I don't like Quicksilver and I love the way Overflow shows off all your beautiful OSX icons, it's like an extended dock. #2) NewsFire or NetNewsWire lite. Either is great for RSS feeds, much easier than Safari's built in RSS. #3) 1Passwd, awesome integration of your keychain with web passwords, credit card info etc. along with improved auto-form filler. And it's integrated into Safari, Firefox etc. #4) Checkbook, my personal favorite for a very easy to use personal bank account manager (I also have Quicken, but hate it). #5) CleanApp, much better than AppZapper for getting rid of unwanted apps. #6) FileChute, I use this all the time as a very quick way to upload files to my server and automatically generate a link that I can drag over to Mail.app and send to anyone, it has options to automatically create a .zip or .dmg archive and for password protection, great app. #7) DevonThink (or DevonNote), I've tried a number of note/document/web clips/... organizers and this is my favorite, really a file cabinet for your Mac. And finally #8) SuperDuper, by far my favorite backup utility. I love that I can make a complete bootable clone backup in like 5 minutes becuase it only copies what has changed since the last backup.
You can of course find all of these apps on MacUpdate.com
Hope this list helps some new switchers, I am a new switcher of about 9 months and could never go back to the Windows world! - garbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I definitely recommend QuickSilver. Almost keeps me from using Finder entirely...almost.
- Flarup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6no mac should be without Quicksilver!
- barrettg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, Unarchiver is great much better that Stuffit IMO
http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html - ocha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea quicksilver should be at the top of everyone's list.
- TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, linking directly to the files, not to their respective websites? Way to make webmasters happy.
On a side note, doesn't Quicksilver also do pretty much what Sizzling keys does? - Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3quicksilver is by far the most usefull app i have. You can control itunes with it as well.
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I seriously cannot believe that so many people think that stripping unused binaries is worth $10. They'd be better off with a program that removes unused printer drivers.
No, seriously. Did you know OSX comes with 1.5GB of printer drivers? no joke! - wmarcello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The "Screengrab" Firefox extension does the same thing.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1146/ - barrettg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Take a Look at http://www.digg.com/software/Useful_Free_Windows_Programs_Under_2MB
- mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I didn't get why they had that iTunes control program right before quicksilver.... Just use quicksilver to control iTunes!
- TheOther1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you are looking for something to make a streamlined Windows install, nlite can do that for you.
http://www.nliteos.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12 out of 10...
- TheSalmonThief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ImageWell would be extremely useful if it had a function that automatically added a 1px black border.
XSlimmer is wonderful for space-saving freaks, like myself.
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is good too, it's like a native gimp:
http://seashore.sourceforge.net/ - theWaterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@degenerategoat -- lists are lists. Nobody is forcing (or even asking) you to read them. There are plenty of other people who enjoy skimming through lists such as these simply because there may be an application that we may not have heard of; because it is either new, or something that we have never looked for before.
I have a personal list of my own apps that I keep that is a composite of the apps that I perceive as potentially useful from some of the lists, or my own practical experience; and I have this list just in case something comes up where I may need a specific app. - pock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will come in handy in a few days when my FIRST mac arrives. I bought a black macbook last week and it should be here in a day or so! We will see if I can be converted or not, i will still install XP to help the transition :)
- silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Someone should make a decent list about PC's.
- hermatize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1JUICEBOX, GET ME A JUICEBOX BITCH
- |ant|, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Synergy is a much better iTunes control program, and it builds right into the bar atop your screen.
- dcconz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nice List, thanks. Paparazzi and Imagewell will definitely come in handy on a daily basis.
- davebarnes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Paparazzi is cool. Ans useful. I bought it about a year ago. Essential, in my opinion.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Same apps over and over again. Stop this nonsense, finally!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thanks guys!
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, but when I searched for it, Google Suggest came up with "overflowing bra." God the internet is sick.
http://external.pathdaemon.com/overflowingwhat.png - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone have a similar list like this for Windows programs? I've seen a site with a ton of tiny windows apps, but there were thousands and I'd like the good one's singled out.
- degenerategoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read them in the vain hope that someone's found something different! I mean really, how many times do we need to read about Quicksilver? Even my non-mac using housemate knows about it.
- noogiewoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Some pretty good apps here, Personally I would've liked to have seen a few more:
VirtueDesktops, Adium, Flip4mac, MPlayer, Parallels.
But then I guess most of those don't fit into the "small" application genre :-) - AfroNiggerMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0thanks alot... ive been looking for something like migatunes or whatever its called. Im surprised apple didnt build something like it into the OS
- sstickeler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Really good list. Some of those are new to me. Going to check them out.
http://www.respectrandomness.com - dysinger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2TrimTheFat does the same thing as XSlimmer but it's free - http://homepage.mac.com/gweston/download.html
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Aw, no MacTheRipper? : P
- degenerategoat, on 10/12/2007, -15/+7Kind of getting bored of these favourite application lists now. They all have the same applications on. There was not a single app on there which hasn't been on a hundred other lists. Find something a bit different!
- yonnermark, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2do any of them blend?
