I mean, everytime I go to Egadget or Gizmodo, about half of the stories about the iPhone, each introducing some new lame feature. At least Engadget (or maybe it was Gizmodo...) came out with a way to read the site WITHOUT seeing all the iPhone news. Great feature for people like me, but the fact that they have it is kind of sad.

      C'mon people, it's just a god damned phone.

      If digg could be personified, it would be one of those people. I'm planning on turning off my feeds on Friday and probably the week after. I have 0 interest in the iPhone, but I can't get away from it. Everything from Digg to /., from Engadget to Businessweek is iPhone and I've had enough.

I don't support A&T, their network isn't great where I live anyway, their data services are vastly inferior to EVDO and if there is one thing I've learned from PDA phones it's that touchscreen phones aren't practical for a real business user.

      It's an interesting idea. It's sexy as hell, but why not just drop the damned phone part and make this the iPod to beat all iPods?!?

I'm sure there are plenty of Apple iPhone pre-fans who have no idea you need AT&T/Cingular to use this, or that it costs $599 US dollars. I don't think AT&T has a large enough customer base to make this thing a hit.

I was at a bar last week and an iPhone commercial came on and about 6 people just fell silent and watched it and began to talk about how much they want one. If there's that level of consumer interest you absolutely cannot blame the media for covering it.

      I wouldn't mind an iPhone but they are not coming here for another 6 months.

We all know that it'll sell very quickly in the next week or so and then in a couple months the price will drop and Apple will get their 10 million sold or whatever. There's enough hype and enough features for anyone to appreciate. It might even grow faster than the iPod if the price drops enough. If it drops to about $150 I bet everyone and their mothers will have one. Plus there will be new features added over the next few years in software that will continue to add value to the phone.

Yes, the UI will be great, but the touch screen can be very difficult to use with no tactile feedback, the smudging in the screen will be an issue and durability is another concern. Oh, for a cell phone that doesn't play music or take pictures or download stupid ten-second videos from HBO that are nothing but goddamned commercials or crap out after two hours or lose connections when you walk into a ***** portable toilet or under a sun umbrella. You make a phone that works and I'll get one. Not a stylish gadget device. Not all of us want commercials force-fed to us. Some of us just want a working telephone that doesn't call your dog or make toast or make farting sounds or WHAT UP DAWG when it rings. Can you do that, Apple/AT&T/NSA? GIve me a simple phone that works and doesn't cost $60-$100 a month. Can you?

To keep my service active, I only need to pay $10 every two months for a 30 minute airtime card. If you don't need to talk on the phone every 5 minutes, it's a good solution to having to pay huge bills every month.

      However, it is tradition on Usenet to invoke Godwin's law and say the person lost. However, Godwin never said anything about losing a discussion. He merely said that the odds of Hitler being brought up increases over time.

All 6 of them said they'd be waiting in line on June 29th to buy one. I asked them if any of them owned an iPod (1) and if any of them owned an Apple computer (none).

    Love it or hate it, barring a complete disaster, this thing is going to be huge. And yes, there will be a hype hangover like the cheapest champagne you've ever swilled. I can understand the gadget media pundits like Dvorak and Leo Laporte getting a little worn out. It has absolutely dominated their niche of the news for the past 6 months.

It was a big hit, in fact the biggest selling cell phone of all time. But it did not take off at $500, $300 or even $200. It was not until it was priced at under $100 for it to sell really well. Consumers are not willing to pay $500 or $600 for a cell phone. Businesses might, but the iPhone will not connect to an Exchange server, like Blackberrys and Treos, so I do not see it as a mainstream business smart phone.

      I believe the iPhone is more Newton than iPod.

The sales numbers will be inflated, the gushing stories will continue, and slowly but surely, it will become known as the 'IT' gadget that's too expensive for any sane consumer to purchase.

      And perched on bar stools all over the nation will be that one fanatic, desperately trying to collect from friends the validation that owning an expensive phone is supposed to garner. Note the sad haunting desperation that quietly slides into disparate horror at the idiotic purchasing choice they've made.

      "But you were all going on and on about it a month ago?"
      "Yeah, it's just a phone man, whatever... let's talk about something else."

Just look at the iPod what one sales the most? The cheap ones. Once you get over the $150 mark people can no longer justify it. The phone will flop unless they come out with one priced $199 or below. Any one that thinks a $600 dollar phone will sale well is a freaking idiot. It will be like the ps3 the fans will buy it the rest will wait for the price to drop.

It's amazing how long Windows has been out on the mobile scene and they just didn't get it right. Now Apple comes out and does it RIGHT in a much shorter time period. Hate them all you want, but you gotta give it to them for making such a sweet product.

Nothing about the user experience of the PS3 is better than the XBox360. The iPhone really doesn't have any peers. No other phone can compare to its ease-of-use and focus on user experience.

I don't get the battery life but i think I make up for that in other ways. I also have 1 gig of ram and a dual core processor. I can get an unlimted data plan for 40 bucks a month. You know how much I paid? $450 Now I know that I stumbled onto a pretty good deal. But I do not have to sign a 2 year contract. Now you are saying that I cant talk on it. Well I just got a FREE phone with a $40 per month plan. I think overall mine is a better deal.
