Shut Up About the iPhone, Already! - PCWorld's Dvorak is at it again
news.yahoo.com — "This is the last week of Apple iPhone hype, hyperbole, and hand-wringing. Oh wait, I mean the last week of pre-iPhone hype, hyperbole, and hand- wringing —we have a few more post-iPhone months left on the calendar. I am sick of it. It's all anyone talks about. It dominates the news. It dominates the podcasts and videocasts and magazines."

- reflex768, on 10/11/2007, -12/+260Funny. Major Dvorak meltdown. But....I do know people like he describes. People who literally bring it up in every conversation. I think the phone looks/sounds great too, but that's starting to get a little annoying.
- FBMGriever, on 10/11/2007, -6/+53Couldn't agree more. Usually Dvorak gets pretty funny with his rants but with this one I can strongly agree. I mean, everytime I go to Egadget or Gizmodo, about half of the stories about the iPhone, each introducing some new lame feature. At least Engadget (or maybe it was Gizmodo...) came out with a way to read the site WITHOUT seeing all the iPhone news. Great feature for people like me, but the fact that they have it is kind of sad.
C'mon people, it's just a god damned phone. - texpundit, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24http://www.applegeeks.com/lite/strips/aglite163.jpg

If digg could be personified, it would be one of those people. I'm planning on turning off my feeds on Friday and probably the week after. I have 0 interest in the iPhone, but I can't get away from it. Everything from Digg to /., from Engadget to Businessweek is iPhone and I've had enough.- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Why not just disable the Apple category?
- razor150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Because the Apple category can, theoretically, contain stories that aren't just about the iPhone.
- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Its takes all the fun out of Digg.com for me.

- Desolite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+46hey, its better than paris hilton "news"
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Amen!
- d3dm, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Paris Hilton gets out of jail this week. The iPhone is released this week. Coincidence?
Apple's marketroids should have paid her big bucks to walk out of prison, holding an iPhone to her ear since those photos will be on every news channel and supermarket tabloid this week.- michaelb1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5yeah, like the iPhone needs more publicity.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Paris Hilton's sex video on the iPhone would be better than Paris/iPhone news.
- culbeda, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8The iPhone interface looks great and as far as a media player goes, it probably will be. As for a phone... I don't support A&T, their network isn't great where I live anyway, their data services are vastly inferior to EVDO and if there is one thing I've learned from PDA phones it's that touchscreen phones aren't practical for a real business user.
It's an interesting idea. It's sexy as hell, but why not just drop the damned phone part and make this the iPod to beat all iPods?!?- KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Because the iPhone costs more than $600 but is heavily subsidized by AT&T. Thus, the iPhone sold just as an advanced iPod would cost even more than $600 (estimates have put the cost of manufacturing at over $800), and no one wants to pay $800+ for an iPod.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Most people I know who are ga-ga about the iPhone are the same people who thought the PS3 would be the Next Big Thing™ until they heard the price ($599 US dollars). I'm sure there are plenty of Apple iPhone pre-fans who have no idea you need AT&T/Cingular to use this, or that it costs $599 US dollars. I don't think AT&T has a large enough customer base to make this thing a hit.

- razor150, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16I m so tired about hearing about the iPhone I've started digging down the stories about it as lame. I come here to read news and not the latest story about what somebody thinks about the iPhone.
- Konstantino, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35"Hitler got less coverage when he invaded Poland."
That pretty much sums all this up. - triscuitbiscuit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5PC Magazine is not the same as PC World... Those two publications are worlds apart. Dvorak would definitely go on a rant about that...
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2It just started to get a bit annoying? I really respect your level of patience sir/madam! Yoga? Budhism?
- cryptomystic, on 10/11/2007, -8/+10The Japanese had phones like the iPhone 7 years ago(they have better ones now) when I last visited. the iphone is not a revolutionary device as many people may think, this technolgy has been out now for quite some time.
- flycatcher, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2What are you saying?! Are you totally nuts! Pah... Noooo.
- LeonardNimrod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1No, cryptomystic is correct. OSX has been out for several years now.... just never in a cell phone.
- sneeka2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I live in Japan NOW and I haven't seen anything resembling an iPhone around here. Boring clam shell clones are the standard. Now Koreans on the other hand make some decent phones. Still no iPhones though.
Stop spreading FUD.
- flycatcher, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2What are you saying?! Are you totally nuts! Pah... Noooo.
- zeejay, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4If Dvorak needs to spout venom, he needs to point it at other tech goliaths like Microsoft, Sony, Cisco, etc. - with their collossal PR, R&D, and Design budgets, they're getting outplayed on all fronts by a much smaller outfit.
Relax, the hype will die in a couple weeks. Then it will be something else. - Veretax, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5but its made by apple, how dare he say that about an apple produce.
LAUGH, The Iphone is so gonna flopp so bad its going to be funny - piper999, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the people getting hardons over this phone weren't such self important fashion victim losers. The rest of us grow out of the desperation to fit in with peer pressure when we leave our teens and get real lives.
- ippersiel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was really tired of hearing all this hype about the iPhone. Happy that it's out now and people can calm down about it.
- FBMGriever, on 10/11/2007, -6/+53Couldn't agree more. Usually Dvorak gets pretty funny with his rants but with this one I can strongly agree. Great feature for people like me, but the fact that they have it is kind of sad.
- neffy, on 10/11/2007, -63/+20There's something so rewarding about watching him become reduced to tantrums about the company he so blindly hates.
- cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15That you think this is a tantrum, or that he blindly hates Apple, then you are proof of the effectiveness of his trolling.
- eddiddiums, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7John doesn't hate Apple so much as he hates Apple people and the way they hang on everything Steve Jobs does. I like Apple, I own both an iPod and a MacBook, but all this iPhone hype is getting a bit out of control.
- neffy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4So what? It's the media's fault, not Apple's. There have been exactly 6 (six) PR releases by Apple about the iPhone in 6 months. It's ironic that the competition is making a much bigger deal out of this than Apple or AT&T themselves.
- deadbaby, on 10/11/2007, -40/+28I agree with Dvorak that the hype is unprecedented but at the same time you can't blame the media for covering stories people care about. It's not like there's much else going on right now. What are we supposed to talk about? I was at a bar last week and an iPhone commercial came on and about 6 people just fell silent and watched it and began to talk about how much they want one. If there's that level of consumer interest you absolutely cannot blame the media for covering it.
- cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10The Media was also on 24/7 watch over Paris Hilton's jail sentence recently. (technically they stopped the 24/7 coverage).
But I get your point... I would happily accept a constant bombardment of iPhone hype for the next few weeks, in return for no mention of minor celebrities with less personal issues than my own friends and family.
... But I fear that instead, we will have a constant bombardment of minor celebrities explaining their personal problems on their iPhones. - OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 10/11/2007, -8/+75"you can't blame the media for covering stories people care about. SERIOUS?!? - wiremonkeymommy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15exactly, OMGW, but, kind of explains how 41% of people believe there was a link between 9/11 and Saddam, doesn't it??
- aliengoods, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15The media CREATES the stories people care about. I don't give a ***** about the iPhone, and I don't know anyone who does. Same with Paris Hilton. GET IT OFF THE FRONT PAGE AND PEOPLE WON'T LOSE A WINK OF SLEEP.
Sorry for the caps. I agree with Dvorak, and find myself confused and enraged. - wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33"What are we supposed to talk about?"
Global warming, Dick Cheney, George Bush, U.S. health care, democratic congress, war in Iraq, war in Iran, Alberto Gonzales, immigration, voter fraud, overcrowded prisons, homelessness, high school graduation rates, Hamas, the Gaza strip, the west bank, N. Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe, Rosenbergs, H-Bomb, Sugar Ray, Panmunjom
Brando, "The King and I", and "The Catcher in the Rye," Eisenhower, vaccine, England's got a new queen, Marciano, Liberace, Santayana goodbye- FKnight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5We didn't start the fire.

Somtimes I wish my mind was this sheltered. - JSager, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Right, there's nothing going on... except for a genocide in Darfur, Hamas's coup in the Gaza Strip, a war in Iraq, a war in Afghanistan, economic problems caused by the housing bubble, immigration battles, a war on drugs, corrupt politicians, health care is failing, social security is still gonna go bankrupt, half the world's population without adequate access to sanitation, political shakeups all over Europe, looming crisis in Zimbabwe, and the little Iran thing.
So yeah, news coverage about a phone nobody's even seen yet is totally justified. - JackOCat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You could talk about throwing out your country's government...
- xatx2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I sure as hell don't want to read about this ***** in the news

- TheBogie, on 10/11/2007, -13/+6I used to think the iPhone would be cool, but since reading this article I now know that it is all just hype. Because Dvovack says so. He is rarely wrong on technology issues.
Dvorvack is the greatest technology writer of our time.- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I think his problem was that he wasn't making money (see ad revenue) from it... problem solved!
- stargatesteve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure about that. I think he hates ads. After all, he Gets No Spam(tm).

- tzonic, on 10/11/2007, -14/+9Thanks John, throw some more fuel onto the fire.
- streak, on 10/11/2007, -22/+56Indeed, it is remarkable how bad current cell phones are.
- mooninite, on 10/11/2007, -10/+8I'm sorry, but the Nokia N95 has been out for several months now and it is the pinnacle of cell phone technology. The iPhone won't come close. I agree with Dvorak. STFU about the POS iPhone.
- streak, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5N95: the pinnacle in price, diminutive screen (only 2.6"), GPS for extra monthly service fee, inferior web browser, only second class support from cellular providers in the U.S.A., short battery life (esp. when using 3G data), small memory capacity (even with optional, extra-cost memory card), approaching an inch thickness.
I'd say, the iPhone has the features and usability people desire most.- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Have you use the iPhone yet?
Thought so.
- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Have you use the iPhone yet?
- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Ah, there's really nothing that the iphone will do that an ericsson hasn't already done.
- Saiing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Indeed, it is remarkable how bad current cell phones are."
You forgot "in America".
You guys just need to catch up with the rest of the world. - kdmaster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The N95 is bad in America, But it is much better in Australia and Europe as we have 3G networks in our major cities- GPS is free (turn-by-turn voice nav isn't) and it comes with a free 1GB card.
I wouldn't mind an iPhone but they are not coming here for another 6 months.
- netburnr, on 10/11/2007, -24/+328I'd rather see stories about the iPhone than about Paris being in Jail.

- LLLSecretChimp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Man, I hope Paris Hilton gets an iPhone to use in jail. I could then get my news in half the time.
- flycatcher, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I love Paris. She said the iPhone was hot. I might buy one now.
- eddiddiums, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Are you posting this so that people won't want an iPhone?
- jedi0utkast, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Amen!
- shauncorleone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I predict less than one month before there is a Dugg picture of Paris using an iPhone, thus scientifically proving how easy it is to navigate the interface. Also, the apocalypse will begin.
- annoia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why is it a choice between the two?
- eggo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'd rather get stabbed in the leg than in the stomach.

- RogaDanar, on 10/11/2007, -14/+42The IPhone looks pretty darn neat.
I just wonder how much face grease will accumulate on it when talking on the phone!
Predictions? Newton or IPod?- ricky125, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The NewPod, or maybe the Iton
- Eldoo77, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Newton!
- kiddailey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Ew. Wipe it on your pants or something ;)
- lrdntwnd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6iPod. We all know that it'll sell very quickly in the next week or so and then in a couple months the price will drop and Apple will get their 10 million sold or whatever. There's enough hype and enough features for anyone to appreciate. It might even grow faster than the iPod if the price drops enough. If it drops to about $150 I bet everyone and their mothers will have one. Plus there will be new features added over the next few years in software that will continue to add value to the phone.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"If it drops to about $150 I bet everyone and their mothers will have one."
And we all know that Steve Job wouldn't let that happen.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"If it drops to about $150 I bet everyone and their mothers will have one."
- raskali, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5It only gets face grease from too much kissing of it.
- ae6ai, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6It has a lot of cool features, but the usability is a real unknown. Yes, the UI will be great, but the touch screen can be very difficult to use with no tactile feedback, the smudging in the screen will be an issue and durability is another concern. My vote is Newton.
- numarc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3thats what bluetooth earphones are for
- Jholder112233, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7So now you can't use a phone in a phone way?
- tzonic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1iPhone?
- streak, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1How much face grease will an iPhone accumlate? If you already own a "candybar" style phone, just check it out for the worst case. Unlike your phone, the iPhone display will be glass and specially coated to minimize attraction of oils.
- UncleHumjaba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You mean... People will use it... To talk on the phone? No way...

- awhiteflame, on 10/11/2007, -42/+66I thought we had already decided not to care about Dvorak?
I mean, are we really taking lessons on how not to be annoying from _John Dvorak_?- shakin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Yeah I thought so too until this article. Somebody had to say it. Are we, as a society, so wrapped up in materialism and obsessive gadgetry that we drool over and talk more about a cell phone than we do our failing health care and school systems? Can people really be willing to spend $600 + outrageous monthly fees on a phone, but not be willing to give $100 to charity so poor kids can get Christmas presents?
Steve Jobs and the unchecked rampant materialism he pushes is exactly what's wrong with America today. - Quix, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1"Steve Jobs and the unchecked rampant materialism he pushes is exactly what's wrong with America today." - shakin
While I assume you think $399 for Windows Vista Ultimate is the OS for the conscientious humanitarian? What a hypocritical load of dung.
P.S. the "outrageous monthly fees" are actually cheaper on the iPhone than for competing devices. Just so you know.- grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1399?? Or if you spend 10 seconds shopping around, 189

Of course, most people don't need Ultimate, Home Premium is about 110.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116202
And the $600 for the iPhone is cheap compared to the contract you are stuck with for 2 years once you open the door to using any provider.

I'm so tired of hearing about it. - mimbomike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yea, I have been saying how it'll blow my Sidekick 3 out of the water. But it IS all talk. I can't and won't put $500 of my own money down just to be an Apple beta tester. I'll catch it on the next generation.
- KicktheDonkey, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2Wwwwaaaaaahhhhhh!
- roessnakhan, on 08/28/2008, -1/+40Leave it to Dvorak to enact Godwin's Law in the intro of his article.
- vulapine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yea. While he could have said something to the effect of "Abe Lincoln got less coverage for the Emancipation Proclamation", he invokes Hitler.
You know. Instead of showing that something positive and important was covered less. - Mirag3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yup, I just stopped reading - GAME OVER.
- vulapine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yea. While he could have said something to the effect of "Abe Lincoln got less coverage for the Emancipation Proclamation", he invokes Hitler.
- RealityMonster, on 10/11/2007, -21/+5Buried because I don't want to shut up about it.
Also, Dvorak can go ***** himself. I don't actually care what he thinks. :P - umbriago, on 10/11/2007, -18/+20Nothing worse than the "gadget chic." Oh, for a cell phone that doesn't play music or take pictures or download stupid ten-second videos from HBO that are nothing but goddamned commercials or crap out after two hours or lose connections when you walk into a ***** portable toilet or under a sun umbrella. You make a phone that works and I'll get one. Not a stylish gadget device. Not all of us want commercials force-fed to us. Some of us just want a working telephone that doesn't call your dog or make toast or make farting sounds or WHAT UP DAWG when it rings. Can you do that, Apple/AT&T/NSA? GIve me a simple phone that works and doesn't cost $60-$100 a month. Can you?
I didn't think so.- WizardGlick, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3People who talk on their cell in the john really need to have said phone shoved squarely up their fart pipe.
- MosX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Actually, they can. Why don't people like you just buy the cheapest phone they have? It's not like they stopped making low end models.
- justinjacobs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, I use Tracfone with a Motorola C261, which costs about $50. To keep my service active, I only need to pay $10 every two months for a 30 minute airtime card. If you don't need to talk on the phone every 5 minutes, it's a good solution to having to pay huge bills every month.
- stupidclese, on 10/11/2007, -23/+69Keep in mind, this is coming from the guy who didn't think the mouse would take off as a PC peripheral. Dvorak is a crotchety old man with no vision, just trolling to get more hits on his articles and blog.
- sensor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2No one thought it would take off.... You can't blame him for saying that.
- GregR, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Let's keep talking about the iPhone - maybe we can get JD really crazy and then he'll go away!
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2hey... dvorak was one of the first to extol the virtues of the 1st gen ipod.
- dilkry, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Plus you need someone that throws some cynicism in this world of press releases and over stated goals and features in the tech world. So what if some of his predictions are not on the money. How many products actually live up to the hype they were brought in on.
- macaddct1984, on 10/11/2007, -11/+41He lost his argument one paragraph in when he brought up Hitler.
Good ol' Godwin.- KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Godwin's Law doesn't say that. All it says is, "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
However, it is tradition on Usenet to invoke Godwin's law and say the person lost. However, Godwin never said anything about losing a discussion. He merely said that the odds of Hitler being brought up increases over time.- covertbadger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dug up for actually knowing what Godwin' s Law is. There are a number of corallaries to the law, to which I'd like to add my own: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of someone trying to invoke Godwin's Law without actually knowing what it says approaches one.
Think it'll catch on?
- covertbadger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dug up for actually knowing what Godwin' s Law is. - HubbertWins, on 10/11/2007, -14/+36It is a phone ffs. You know, telephones....been around for over a century. This isn't fusion, or a faster than light spaceship, or even a cure for cancer. It is a friggin telephone.
- smitting, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Its the friggin internet in your pocket man! And not the stupid WML world I've had in my pocket since the 90's.
- bumblefoot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1and almost all phones made since 1998 have had that ability check out opera mobile for a great browser for your mobile phone, and its only "the friggin internet" when your near a wifi hotspot and they're hard to come by even now
- SocialPoison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wait... the iPhone doesn't cure cancer? Dammit!
- LLLSecretChimp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think it uses a fusion reactor instead of a battery. That's why you can speak for 8 hours.
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5If someone cured cancer or invented a reliable way to make cold fusion work, it wouldn't make to digg front page because of iPhone flood. I am not joking btw.
- betobeto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1What? So it won't clean the house or cook the meals for me? Oh, damn. For the asking price, I was pretty much expecting it.
- smitting, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Its the friggin internet in your pocket man! And not the stupid WML world I've had in my pocket since the 90's.
- h0zae, on 10/11/2007, -15/+10he really needs to get laid.....
- DerTeufel, on 10/11/2007, -5/+26I knew it was going to be a run away hit when I saw a group of 6 men and women aged 55-65 stop and stare at one of the commercials in a bar and then immediately start talking about it. All 6 of them said they'd be waiting in line on June 29th to buy one. I asked them if any of them owned an iPod (1) and if any of them owned an Apple computer (none).
Love it or hate it, barring a complete disaster, this thing is going to be huge. And yes, there will be a hype hangover like the cheapest champagne you've ever swilled. I can understand the gadget media pundits like Dvorak and Leo Laporte getting a little worn out. It has absolutely dominated their niche of the news for the past 6 months.- ae6ai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It is not clear that it will be a big hit. First, the price is a real issue. The Razor was cool, new and different. It was a big hit, in fact the biggest selling cell phone of all time. But it did not take off at $500, $300 or even $200. It was not until it was priced at under $100 for it to sell really well. Consumers are not willing to pay $500 or $600 for a cell phone. Businesses might, but the iPhone will not connect to an Exchange server, like Blackberrys and Treos, so I do not see it as a mainstream business smart phone.
I believe the iPhone is more Newton than iPod. - ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The iPhone is going to be the most spectactular flop you've never heard of. The sales numbers will be inflated, the gushing stories will continue, and slowly but surely, it will become known as the 'IT' gadget that's too expensive for any sane consumer to purchase.
And perched on bar stools all over the nation will be that one fanatic, desperately trying to collect from friends the validation that owning an expensive phone is supposed to garner. Note the sad haunting desperation that quietly slides into disparate horror at the idiotic purchasing choice they've made.
"So, how is the iPhone anyway?"
"It's all right..."
"But you were all going on and on about it a month ago?"
"Yeah, it's just a phone man, whatever... let's talk about something else."
Have no sympathy for the suckers, that makes you a sucker too. - chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I would not pay $600 bucks for a phone that could clean my house and give me a blow job. I doubt I am the only one that feels this way. Just look at the iPod what one sales the most? The cheap ones. Once you get over the $150 mark people can no longer justify it. The phone will flop unless they come out with one priced $199 or below. Any one that thinks a $600 dollar phone will sale well is a freaking idiot. It will be like the ps3 the fans will buy it the rest will wait for the price to drop.
- ae6ai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It is not clear that it will be a big hit. First, the price is a real issue. The Razor was cool, new and different. - totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -8/+45Thanks for avoiding the iPhone hype by not posting about it, Dvorak. Enjoy your site hits! :p
- BigSax, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1For once I am happy that the poster linked to a page which was not the article source. Yahoo gets the hits instead of PCmag.
- 2ndrookie, on 10/11/2007, -20/+24Sorry, but the only reason I'm buying an iPhone is because Windows Mobile is a joke. The Treo is a nice phone with a ***** OS. It's amazing how long Windows has been out on the mobile scene and they just didn't get it right. Now Apple comes out and does it RIGHT in a much shorter time period. Hate them all you want, but you gotta give it to them for making such a sweet product.
- joegtp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Wow! How did you already get a hold of an iPhone? The phone isn't even out yet. Try using the phone for 2-3 months then come back and comment.
- realyst, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Indeed. You seem to be making usability claims based on a nonexistent product.
- sensor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2And you act like windows is the only choice out there. Nokia has some damn good phones.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Inability. to connect. to Exchange servers.
Like Microsoft or not, that is NOT "[doing] it RIGHT in a much shorter time period" in a MS centric business atmosphere. That smell is hype, not victory. Thanks for playing.- 2ndrookie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOL, OK because that's a crucial feature I MUST have on my phone.... sorry amigo, but I'm not in the "MS Centric Business atmosphere" *Thank GOD*, so frankly I could care less about Exchange Servers. I just want to exchange phone calls, send emails, surf, take flicks and listen/view media with ease and with in a few days I will be able to.
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3LOL no one uses Macs in the business world. If you are not in a MS centric business then you are either A) Do some sort of graphic art. B) Still in school and have no idea what the world is like C:) You might use linux but highly unlikely.
- Hercules, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1In addition to everybody else's comments about your idiotic post -- the iPhone supports no external applications. While it seems that nobody loads mobile applications on a Windows device... it has a multi-million dollar industry based around mobile software.
The iPhone tells you to go make a Safari compatible web page.
I'll pass, especially at that price and no 3G.- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If they want to make stuff for people to use on phone they would have make some apps for WAP! which is good enough for any mobile phones out there.
- rabidmonkey1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8"Exactly what new meditation sequence Steve Jobs learned recently that could create such a flurry of fawning interest is beyond me. He should become a guru and teach it to the likes of Chrysler Corp. executives. Seriously, this whole thing is creepy in some mystical way."
well, at a certain point, "technology does become indistinguishable from magick," so Steve Jobs must be some kind of voodoo... - NSResponder, on 10/11/2007, -11/+50If he's sick of it, why is he writing about it?
-jcr- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1it's the quickest way to get to the front page.

- kiantech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3why do you have 100 myspace bookmarks....
- kiheimac, on 10/11/2007, -13/+6I hope Dvorak's head explodes from an Apple overdose.
- corsairstw, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20Best quote: "Seriously, this whole thing is creepy in some mystical way."

- epilonious, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yes. but he is occasionally correct about some things, not unlike a broken clock.
Dvorak is more of a broken alarm clock without any volume control. So when he is seldomly right EVERYONE has to hear about it. - ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2pro trolls are really needed sometimes to say stuff you feel.

- victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3He can cover it, but all he would be doing is vomitting what everyone else knows. PR info straight from Apple.
I actually agree with him. Nobody in the public has even used the damn thing, how the hell do you expect someone to review it?

- wonboodoo, on 10/11/2007, -14/+27He knows that you Apple fanboys are an easy troll. You guys fall for it hook, line, and sinker every time and he just laps up the site traffic (or in this case, Yahoo does).
- Eldorian, on 10/11/2007, -13/+13I agree with Dvorak. The same people that are all goo goo about this little phone device they have to shell out $600 for are the same people that whine and complain about the price of the PS3.
The only answer being that people will do anything Apple tells them to do.- bovox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The thing about the PS3 is that there is no justification for paying that price when an XBox 360 can do the same thing for less. Nothing about the user experience of the PS3 is better than the XBox360. The iPhone really doesn't have any peers. No other phone can compare to its ease-of-use and focus on user experience.
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2How do you know this? I can get a phone and a laptop for under 600 bucks. That do all those things better then the iPhone will do them.

- GunOfTheMartyr, on 10/11/2007, -45/+103I totally agree with him. I'm so ***** sick of every other front page article on Digg being about the iPhone. Newsflash: Most of us don't give a ***** about Apple's new 'trendy' *****. There are tons of phones that do the exact same thing for $200-300 less. ***** Apple. ***** fanboys.
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9If we "digg" this comment while using Apple machines, do we count as traitors?
asking just in case... :) - t-readyroc, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18If I could digg GunOfTheMartyr's comment twice, I would.
- jonahan52, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5You know you can block Apple news right?
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6We don't want to block Apple news, we want to block iPhone stories or let Digg admins add a "iPhone" section.
There are computers named "Macintosh" you know? and there are owners of them who doesn't give a heck to phones, especially locked down very expensive phones regardless of who produces them. - neffy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Or you could stop whining and ignore it. Yourself. Naaaaahhhh. Drama queens.
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6We don't want to block Apple news, we want to block iPhone stories or let Digg admins add a "iPhone" section.
- HanSolo69, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6Dude, you are SO right. Nobody cares about Apple and that is exactly why the stories get thousands of Diggs and are on the front page all the time. Good thing Digg works in reverse like that, you know, the more people who Digg it actually means less people care about it. Great, you broke the algorithm.
- IcedKirby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Comment of the week. Agree with you totally.
- Morky, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Really? Show me a phone with a good web browser for dealing with real web pages and I might believe you have a point.
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1And you know this is a good web browser how? Oh thats right Steve told you. ANY browsing on a screen that size will suck. Oh you don't belive me. Turn your screen down to 640 X480 and try browsing digg. Hell try it on 800 X 600.
- marklmiddleton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Also, why don't you just use your computer to browse the web when you're at home? When you're out doing something, is that really what you want to be doing, browsing the web with your eyes glued to a tiny little screen? I waste enough time on the internet when I'm at home. That's why I leave the house, to escape the internet.
- sabor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Well, I am even sicker of whining bitches writing on every iPhone news how much they hate the iPhone. If it irritates you that much, I'd stay clear of reading any news related to it.
You don't have to click on every iPhone Digg news, let alone comment on how it irritates your fragile little mind. - voisine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6There's another phone with an ajax enabled web browser? A $20/mo unlimited data plan? With touch screen scrolling zooming and panning? With a 320x480 screen and 8 hour battery? That comes with 8gigs of flash memory and can play h264 video? really? Damn... which one?
- chalkboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I just bought one with a 1440 X 900 screen 100 gigs of memory and can play any video format I want. I don't get the battery life but i think I make up for that in other ways. I also have 1 gig of ram and a dual core processor. I can get an unlimted data plan for 40 bucks a month. You know how much I paid? $450 Now I know that I stumbled onto a pretty good deal. But I do not have to sign a 2 year contract. Now you are saying that I cant talk on it. Well I just got a FREE phone with a $40 per month plan. I think overall mine is a better deal.
- voisine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah, but can you take it jogging?

- moosani, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Yup you are right. My Razr does everything that *I want* my phone to do. Do I use it? It's a joke!! Razr is sexy but useability factor is "Zero"
The features in iPhone are not new; email, sms, iPod, maps, voicemail, etc. But the differentiating feature is it's useability. Period. No more arguments. If you can't afford it STFU.
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9If we "digg" this comment while using Apple machines, do we count as traitors?
- Jason10481, on 10/11/2007, -15/+3Dvorak is a moron, he knows it, everyone at PCWorld knows it, he needs to just shut his fat mouth and get a job writing articles for a small town newspaper where he might actually know what he's talking about.
- heme11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0seriously? LOL!
- twit987, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3What do want!? iPHONE!
When do we want it!? iPHONE! - andshewas, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1Why is there always a comment starting with the phrase, "In Mother Russia..."? I'm over that.
Props to Dvorak for putting into words the way I feel whenever I see one of these articles about some hidden feature on the iPhone, like it frickin' matters.
I have to say, though - I do like the commercials for the iPhone...not nearly as obnoxious as the iPod commercials. I'm not assaulted with top 40.- neom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In Mother Russia people don't comment on comments about In Mother Russia, the comments comment on the comments about In Mother Russia.
- andshewas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Seriously?

- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If there is one time Dvorak may get secret support from Apple users (check digg numbers!), it is this time.
Yes, we are amazingly tired of iPhone. There are people who couldn't hear OS X 10.4.10 update shipped because of iPhone story flood you know?
- ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If there is one time Dvorak may get secret support from Apple users (check digg numbers!), it is this time.

I just got a Motorola Ming and it is excellent, there is simply no reason for the iPhone to exist.- neom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No reason?
I can think of AT LEAST one.. If the iPhone didn't exsist what would us apple fanboys have to fan about?
- neom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No reason?
