Should Windows users should boycott Apple's Safari?
blogs.computerworld.com — Apple has made such a mess of its Safari 3.1 browser for Windows that Windows users should consider boycotting the browser, because of an underhanded way of distributing it, that according to CEO honcho John Lilly says "borders on malware."

- liuping, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4Why Boycott it? If you like it use it, if not, uninstall (or don't install it in the first place)
- SilentStrider, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3What happened to taking responsibility for your actions? If you want Safari, click install. Otherwise, uncheck the box or hit the cancel button. No need for boycotts or any of that nonsense.

- nbeighley, on 03/27/2008, -1/+2everyone should embrace safari (or firefox or opera or camino or anything else)...DIE INTERNET EXPLORER, DIE!!!!
- llsethj, on 03/27/2008, -3/+1Apple is no Microsoft but they are certainly heading in that direction
- CheatRZ, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1I really don't understand the big outcry about this.
I have Safari downloaded and installed in windows, but the updater is "pushing" me to download iTunes + Quicktime.. both of which I don't want, so I don't download it. I'm pretty sure the updater has been doing this sort of thing for a while now (like installing iTunes alone prompts you to install QuickTime etc.), so why people are getting pissed now about the Safari situation is a bit weird to me. I do think the "updater" should be changed to remove these options or give the updater a new name, but I'm not mad that they're trying to push iTunes on me. I simply choose not to download it. - samuel514, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1No if you don't like it, don't use it.
- PoopOnPaul, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Nobody wanted to boycott Google when suddenly the Google toolbar was installed by default with a bunch of free programs. I'm not defending Apple, I don't think they should have the box for Safari checked by default, but they're not the only ones that do it, and it's not that bad (you're still clearly given the opportunity to uncheck it). The only reason people are making such a big deal about it this time is because a lot of people love to hate Apple.
- LennyX, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Should people should just get over it should they should?
- nagoyait, on 04/02/2008, -0/+0For people saying "why don't you just not install it" - It's defaulted to checked and people who don't know any better (like my grandma or like millions of other people) will install it without knowing it and possibly getting set as the default browser. After I unchecked it it goes back to checked after the update of Itunes. So it doesn't remember I don't want it and keeps trying to push itself. Sucky way of doing things and considering that Safari had a huge security hole unveiled recently at CanSecWest hacking competition making Apple fail even before Windows should make people concerned.
And why does it have to piggyback on to Itunes? What does it have to do with ITunes?? You don't need Safari to run ITunes. It boggles my mind.
