- uknowwhoibe, on 07/08/2009, -5/+283. Miss your iPhone since you BB is just a clunky POS that isn't fun to play with.
- ElectricKetchup, on 07/08/2009, -0/+19Push uses less batter than Fetch
- decker12, on 07/08/2009, -9/+26Just turn off Push and set your iPhone to Fetch every few minutes. Your battery will thank you.
- zjbird, on 07/08/2009, -2/+11BB owners think that their phone is the equivalent of Windows to the Mac. Sadly, that just isn't the case by a long shot.
- digitaldivinci, on 07/08/2009, -3/+12Sadly these instructions are only for Mac users, however it does mention that it is close to a Windows roll out.
- Wargasmic, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8More batter is better.
- migitalwarfare, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7So if you know a response is coming, why don't you just refresh your inbox within the mail app?
- geekofweek, on 07/08/2009, -2/+9except that yahoo sucks
- NovaPrime9, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6And when will that be? Google hasn't really done anything for the iPhone except to make dedicated webaps. I want a true app- not something running in the buggy-as-***** Safari.
- jcronkhite, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6Using GMail IMAP on the iPhone is great already. I definitely don't want a push notification popping up on my screen every time I get an email. And they are charging more than the standard 99 cents for this? I'm sure there's someone out there who thinks this is a must have and would love it. Just not me.
- shank2001, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5You know you can choose how push notifies you. You can have it pop up a message, play a sound, vibrate, annotate the App Icon... in any combination, individually or together.
- Flinty, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Hmm batter...
- makkura, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4Been using this Prowl for a day or two now, and my battery life hasn't changed. It's pretty awesome app, and a great workaround until something more official comes.
- rnelsonee, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5Yeah, but the iPhone limits it to just a few choices (15 min, 30 min, hourly), and 15 minutes is a very long time to wait to get response back if you need it.
- joerod, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4jeez just wait for the official push gmail, this seems like to much work for this feature
- streak, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5Uh, that would be because the iPhone isn't just a toy. It's a better business phone than any BB.
- alexdrod, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5Well, dumb *****, I guess that means it won't work anymore.
Why do people ask ridiculously stupid questions? - an10ae, on 07/08/2009, -2/+6You "still remember"? Wow, that must've been quite the life experience for you to retain the memory of it to this very day. It's been nearly 5 weeks since it's release.
- alexdrod, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4So, you want me to pay for features I rarely would use?
50 bucks is even a rip off for those features. - Tenoq, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3I'm with Jaydude765 - it's a phone. Ever thought of calling them? :p
- cyberdork, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3IM+ works fine.
- Macskeeball, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3This isn't just for Gmail. It's for Growl notifications.
- bigthree, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4once the windows version is out i'll give it a try -- i think Decker12 has the right idea though
- zjbird, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3I think push uses 3g more than wi-fi
- Jaydude765, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3If it's important enough to require an immediate response... don't use email?
- migitalwarfare, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3There already is a way to turn off push notification for individual apps. When you have a push capable application on your phone, your settings menu gets a new "Notifications" sub-menu, in which you can choose settings per app.
- wastern, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3because manually sitting in mail refreshing is annoying and even worse on your battery since the screen is on. Not to mention expecting and wanting a response back within a few minutes doesn't mean its going to happen.
- krisrm, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3The Hero needs to be released in North America... while it might not "kill" the iPhone, per se, it can certainly laugh in it's face over a lot of features.
- thesledman, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2I have AIM on the iPhone and push works perfectly and virtually instant. It has replaced SMS when it comes to texting my girlfriend.
- JTMON, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2I would friggin hope a google OS interoperates with a google web service better than an Apple app.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3And I'm going to guess it's been about 6 since your father's release that spawned you.
- skubiszm, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3You email all looks the same on the iPhone. But I agree, Yahoo's web interface does suck.
- Macskeeball, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3They've made two iPhone apps http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/ ... That and the collaboration with Apple on things like YouTube and Google Maps.
- phphreak, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I installed the Prowl App and I use it for anything from Gmail notifications to Handbrake and Transmission notifications. Truly an amazing app that saves me a lot of time.
- ultrafez, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2There are other phones that have Android now.
- ElectricKetchup, on 07/08/2009, -2/+4I run gmail app on my blackberry all the time and it doesn't have push. I think it does background checking every few minutes, but I don't think there's a way to set the time interval.... which is kinda annoying
- pazimzadeh, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2so, what's the big deal? if there is push coming for Gmail there will most likely be a way to turn it off
- oldhick, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Wouldn't that depend on your volume of email?
- PxCxG, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Um, you must not know what you are doing because BBs do have push with gmail
- MacParrot, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Is there anything better than email waffles?
- alexdrod, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Not at all. In fact, leaving it UNplugged all the time is the worst thing you can possibly due to your battery. Macbooks stop charging the moment they are full and then continue to run straight off the AC power. Your battery is in no way affected.
You are screwing over your macbook hard by not leaving it plugged in. - araqnidm, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I have a Firefox add-on called Gmail Notifier. It does the exact same thing. Whenever I get a new mail I can see it at the bottom toolbar on the browser and a Growl window pops up as well. I installed Prowl onto my iPhone this morning and now whenever Firefox finds a new mail in my box I get an instant notification.
- MacParrot, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Is your laptop your only computer? Not trying to be snarky, but if you have a computer thats at home set it up through that.
- KnoaWyls, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1It works beautifully for my BeejiveIM. I love it!
- t0ny, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1You guys don't get what I'm saying. Push is a horrible solution. Background apps are the right way of doing things.
- strupatn, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1More batter is better only if the butter in the batter isn't bitter.
- migitalwarfare, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1If it's important enough, they'll email back in a timely manner. If it isn't important enough to warrant an immediate response, 15 minutes isn't going to matter much.
- JTMON, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1They don't support push mail for iphones yet. The contact/calendar sync is great though.
- migitalwarfare, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Consider myself educated. I hadn't heard about anything other than then HTC G1. That says something about either the marketing departments for the manufacturers, or the lack of "wow factor" with these newer phones. Either way, I didn't know about the newer options.
After doing a quick search, LG, Sony-Ericsson and Asus might have some worthwhile hardware to check out, but Motorola, Samsung, Dell, and the slew of bottom rung manufacturers will probably do nothing but pull down the Android brand. - brickbat, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1It only pushes email if you pay $25 a year.
