- samimnot, on 12/14/2008, -0/+75"Now just for the record, other companies came up with this idea AND IMPLEMENTED IT before Apple, but since their ad is the first example that I’ve seen I will refer to them as the creators of the idea"
WTF??? This author must be one of the writers that have recently been laid off from FOX News. Talk about BS SPIN... - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+52Annoying.
- DiggFellow, on 12/14/2008, -0/+47I think I remember seeing this for Wario Shake it
- dfross, on 12/14/2008, -0/+42Isn't this title completely misleading? When I read it I thought of a webpage that once viewed was gone forever, or something. This is neat if you haven't seen it before, but has nothing to do with self-destruction.
- GorfTron, on 12/14/2008, -1/+40Oh great, more bullcrap on the web.
- zeblith, on 12/14/2008, -1/+30Perfect, so now every time I want to load a page I'll get to waste 20 seconds of my life while some stupid ad takes over. We can all go back to dial-up at those blazing fast speeds!
Also, this article is -crap-. It's like saying my grandma invented gravity because the earliest memory I have is of her dropping a piano down the stairs. And they're -way- too damn positive about this "new" way of delivering ads. - Tomgupper, on 12/14/2008, -0/+27Same here.
I do wish people would do a bit more research before they claimed one company the 'leading innovator' because they've only seen one example. - vinceislegend, on 12/14/2008, -1/+21No. You don't get to credit Apple with being innovative because they have more annoying ads. ***** you.
- Pheter, on 12/14/2008, -0/+18Sumary of part of the article: "I know that other people have done this before Apple, but the first time i saw it done, it was Apple who did it. Therefore I shall refere to Apple as the 'creators'.." What the bullcrap? You know Apple are not the 'creators' but are still going to call them that?!
- nshady, on 12/14/2008, -0/+17I don't think Apple's New York Times ad is quite the same as the others - that's just a clever use of page layout. Personally, I'd award credit to Nintendo for being first mainstream company to work with the site in question and put a unique twist on its design.
- TheKorn2, on 12/14/2008, -1/+16No, he's just taking Apple Fanboism to a new gay "I'll suck Apple dick in exchance for NOTHING!" levels.
(At least crack whores have the sense to get something in return!) - motters, on 12/14/2008, -0/+14Banner ads are fine, but anything which fundamentally messes with the web page, or obscures the text which I'm trying to read - the primary purpose for loading the web page in the first place - is unacceptable.
- cloudberries, on 12/14/2008, -1/+14Meh. It's just fancy Flash gimmickery. Nothing to write home about.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -2/+14Psst. Apple makes the iPod Touch. That thing in the video.
- xkingADROCKx, on 12/14/2008, -0/+12Why is this a good thing at all? Why would I want the advert to interact and get in the way of the content on the page I'm trying to read? Adblock FTW.
- BuzzEdition, on 12/13/2008, -4/+15I'm glad I saw it here first, knowing me I would think I had a virus or something!
- shotgunefx, on 12/14/2008, -0/+111. Stupid and totally inaccurate title, more like "Annoying Ads make onexit popup windows look pleasant by comparison"
2. Nothing to do with Apple
3. I'll be as receptive to someone ***** up my desktop and moving ***** around, as much as I will be to someone jumping in my car while I'm driving and jerking the wheel around. It's one thing if they are something a user needs to select, but anything they think is remotely effective will probably show up in people's regular "flow" of browsing. Well, that's what Flashblock is for. Don't get me wrong, the wii ad was kind of cool, but if I was just browsing and ***** starts dancing around my page or screwing with the DOM, I'm gonna think malware
On a random note, anyone else having the comment box misbehave? Mine's bouncing back and forth vertically like it's chewing on my words lol. - Cglass, on 12/14/2008, -2/+12I'm going to bury because the submitter put "and Apple is the leading innovator."
- SilverSpoon, on 12/14/2008, -0/+9Here's another pretty good one.
http://producten.hema.nl/ - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+9Exactly.
People on limited bandwidth, IE THE WHOLE OF AUSTRALIA (thanx Telstra, bastards!) Will have a hard time accepting big advertising, even some multimedia adds in most news sites, MSN and Yahoo can do your bandwidth limit in just days alone..
Seriously, people are paying $30 a month for just 200 mb. This is what happens when ISP's like Comcast start limiting the net. It starts small, then itgets militant, then it gets monopolized, then it becomes unbearable.
And if you go over...
$150 dollars a gig..yep, $150 dollars and the government does nothing against this blatant extortion. And big adds make me cringe. I would happily download movies legally from the net, but I can't!~ I just can't... - IniNew, on 12/14/2008, -1/+9Can't agree more. When I go to a web page its because I want to read/see something related to the content on that website. Not watch a ***** iphone shake all the text around preventing me from doing my reading/seeing.
- cereal1, on 12/14/2008, -0/+8Wow, the ads that pop out over the content I'm trying to read piss me off. I don't know what I'll do when one tries that ***** on me.
- mitch37, on 12/14/2008, -0/+7After reading the title the article disappointed me.
- jcsoc, on 12/14/2008, -1/+8mention apple=front page
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+7Will you please ***** off?
- YancyFryJr, on 12/14/2008, -4/+9Firefox + NoScript = Large Middle Finger to Apple.
- uncwidiot, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5FTA: Who knows if this is the future of advertising, all I can say is that the concept is innovate enough that I enjoying seeing those ads enough that I’ll stop and watch them for a bit before moving on with my regular browsing.
Really? What if it was for a product not made by Apple? - Fhwqhgads, on 12/14/2008, -1/+6Don't worry, Adblock will deal with it in time.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5I can imagine negative ad revenue and near complete loss of visitors from using an ad like this.
But the Warioware ad is a silly well done exception. - manogamez, on 12/14/2008, -1/+6Where I saw it first:
http://producten.hema.nl/? - TheKorn2, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Either use adblock, or throw the site serving the javascript/flash into the blocked sites list.
That list is getting damn big these days! - slimkevi, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Dugg your comment for use of the word "bullcrap"
- y0urcl0ne, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4YAY! Even longer loading times!
- AgentVladimir, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4There are good TV/Cinema ads. Big budgets, interesting, funny. These crazy crap things don't do any of that because they appear when you're not expecting them and just feel like they're interrupting.
- Adralemechk, on 12/14/2008, -1/+5That's what I was thinking.
Not exactly innovative if you ask me. - trollick, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4If they don't want me to go to their website why don't they just shut it down?
- c001, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Wow!! Burn after reading..
- vinceislegend, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Best comment ever?
- srg13, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4There are ads on the internet?
- honeybrass, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3"MOM! look what I found on the internet!!" well, maybe it is
- cloudberries, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3I can see it working as a viral campaign, especially the Wario one. But as an ad, it would have me clicking 'close' faster than you can say "Oh ***** hell, what has the marketing deparment come up with now?"
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3This commenter will Divide by zero in 5 seconds.
- techdever, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3***** this, i don't want a stupid ad to keep me from using the site for 20s... sure it seems 'cool' at first, but after 500000times it gets pretty ***** boring. If i want to see an ipod touch game with tilt control, i'll go get a ***** ipod touch, not visit yahoo website.
- sexybobo, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2That was because it wasn't on the main page of a sight you were trying to visit. It was set up to look like a youtube link you would send to your friend/post on digg. So the people that saw it thought it was cool. Unlike this where i could imagine the 5th or 6trh time you hit yahoo to get your email it would be a little annoying.
- Suricou, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Enjoyable on the first view.
Irritating on the second.
By the tenth, time to upgrade the ad-blocker to handle them. - AriKant, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Yes, it's fantastic to not be able to use a website because an advertisement has taken it over and is spinning things around.
I can't wait to waste 30 seconds of my life staring at the screen waiting to be able to click something.
Wonderful - eatrains, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2You have to manually activate the Apple ad. When the page loads the ad is just an image and doesn't take over anything until you click 'Play ad'.
- KitchenRaider, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I logged in to report you.
- hawk3210, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2"enough that I enjoying seeing those ads"
He can speak English good. -
