- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It won't look like that when its finished. Why would they show the developers what they're really working on? They never have before...
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14This same article from thinksecret was on the front page earlier today. Except the submitter linked to the screenshots section instead of the same article. Duping has reached a new level of laziness.

- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Has it changed that much since this was posted this afternoon?

- mfhughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's actually Apple Computer, inc.
Not Computers. - Chmarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No. "Zettabyte" is just the (now obsoleted, it's just ZFS now) name of the filesystem. I believe the ZFS filesystem can only handle 16 exabytes.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree, sort of, about the Finder. I just want to be able to see my file path without using the mouse. Is it that hard to do?
Other than that, let me unplug disks without ejecting them first, and give me a real maximize button, that's all I need.
I'm probably not getting any of that, am I? Oh boy, new eye candy on the way. Whee. - kanefsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually, I think 16 exabytes is the limit for the size of a *single file*. A filesystem is limited to "256 quadrillion zettabytes (where each ZB is 270 bytes)" according to http://opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/faq/
- rsampaio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I find it funny apple taking credit for Spaces saying its only on MacOSX and then telling Redmond to stop the copiers...
I hate hypocrisy... - vandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2where is this new instance of pinstripes? as far as i know, they've always been there. for the most part this interface is identical to tiger, aside from the quickview.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As previously stated, there's a lot of stuff coming in 10.5 that hasn't been shown to the general public, or developers yet. It would be misinformed to call an XP -> Vista upgrade more worthy than a 10.4 -> 10.5 upgrade without knowing the full extent of new features yet to come.
- Kazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Preview takes like one second to open... I don't understand how useful this quick view can be, but I guess I'll see with time.
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2finder needs to be fixed..little vague...you know, it's been working fine for me since i had my se. what seems to be the trouble?
- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I waiting for a submission that is just a link to the earlier submission....
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5mfratt, that's how I feel about most mac updates. I have a mac and I like OSX and XP both, but I'm not going to pay any money for something like this. Time machine? Little changes? Call me back when they've made the dock truly functional, or some other thing worth paying a hundred bucks for.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/leopard9a321/source/picture-12.html
Why is this running on an Xserve (hmmm, or is that preference just not fully written - it normally doesn't show that option if you're not on an Xserve)
Edit: It also shows a checkbox for the iR reciever? We could take the rumour mill approach and say that this shows that there is a line of Xserves with Front Row coming out, or we could just assume it's not finished :) - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They use black sparingly and it's usually tied to media in some way. Editing photos with iPhoto and it's adjustment panels and Quicktime in full screen mode are a couple of examples. I don't think black will become a system-wide theme. It's more of a way to set off certain kinds of functionality from the normal theme. It makes sense, especially with photos and video where you don't want distractions so making the interface black puts the media in focus.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think he was joking. But for what its worth, I think you're great now. You didn't feel the need to call him an idiot or anything. We need more people like you who don't feel the need to immediately insult people.
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The finder needs to be fixed for the 40th time.
- MacFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Number 21 is a screenshot of Quick View being used on a QuickTime movie.
- camster91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh...even duggmirror is slow
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intel Macs can boot from USB iirc. Some (a few models of) PowerPC macs can.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"black is the new metal-grey"
- jstevewhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MMM... install picture shows USB as an option for install... Is that in the currently available beta (from the developer convention)? Tiger will boot off of USB, but won't install to it.
@bigvics -
Joking, right? You forgot your /sarcasm tags. - manitoba98xp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right..."Post Removed by Apple Computers Inc." uh huh...if Apple could do that, they'd really leave a message saying they did it. Besides, it's "Apple Computer Inc.", it's not plural.
Edit: Beaten by mfhughes - plosfas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really like the look of the quick look feature. That is something that mac OS X has needed for a while. I always hate when preview opens up every time I want to view an image.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And it's been possible on OS X for a while with 3rd party apps. Hmmm...
- ig33k010011, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2a zettabyte?????
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/leopard9a321/source/picture-23.html
Running on a MacBook, you could guess (if all the shots were from the same machine). That has an iR reciever. - Stirk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"looks fugly" ?
Ripping off of vista?
Do you mind elaborating? - Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please work....
- Foma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For all those who are puzzled by the "1 ZB = 270 bytes" comment, that should actually read 2^70 bytes.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dogparty - have you ever heard of letting users work the way they want to work?
Perhaps you enjoy littering your desktop with unnecessary distractions, others don't. If I'm actually doing four things at once, then I'll leave the windows overlapped so I can see what I'm up to. But when I'm writing, using Photoshop, or any other creative activity that requires me to focus on the work itself, I like full screen.
People play games full screen, why can't we work full screen?
Sorry I'm such a "moron." - arwcheek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know how I feel about the new installer-- it used to be clear to the user on which stage they were at. No more left-hand list of installation steps?? Seems like they got rid of the logical part so they can advertise features.
- MacFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Apple can legitimately take credit for Spaces, because that is the name of *their* implementation of virtual desktops, and the functionality of Spaces far outpaces the PowerToy Microsoft created in both elegance and functionality. I highly doubt that Apple had very much to copy from Microsoft when they wrote Spaces...
Gadgets, Windows Calendar, Windows Mail, and Vista's search feature, however... - etx313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LONG LIVE THE BRUSHED METAL FINDER WINDOW!!!
lame. - justnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Linux has had "spaces" installed by default since at least 2000 when I first installed red hat. I'm surprised mac and windows haven't put it in theirs until now. It is a great feature.
- TwistedPlastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really hope they implement a whole theme like that black "frontrow" esque style. It's snazzy.
- johnpaul191, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well... the official list of what's new: http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/index.html
thing like TimeMachine and Spaces might be really useful. the last 4 major upgrades have brought big speed increases (at least on my machines). we'll see if that continues. i will say the hop to 10.4 was the least significant speed increase for me, though i was using it on a G4 800 tower and an iBook 500 dual USB. i'm not even sure the ibook will support this OS very well. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think they are talking about the fact that it is integrated into the OS. I believe in most Linux distros, it's a seperate installation one must do and on Windows, the powertoy is an extra, unsupported by Microsoft I might add. Plus that powertoy just plain sucks ass.
- Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looking nice, looking very nice. I can't wait to get my hands on it to try it out.
- cjmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's image 21 supposed to be?
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are they seriously bringing pack the horizontal pinstripe(?) lines in menus and windows? That was so tacky looking back around what, 10.0? Macs were finally just starting to get me lusting after them, and they take a step back like that... ugh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow.. with ZFS, it may be worthwhile to get a mac :)
- nfvs, on 08/30/2008, -8/+871 diggs in 8 minutes? We're gonna need this...
http://www.duggmirror.com - 21chrisp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"at least they can differentiate the look and fell of new operating systems"
I'm trying to figure out why you would want to do that... it seems to me that would mean that you just don't ever get it right, or even close enough to be consistent. - 21chrisp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hate to burst your bubble but that never went away...
- alternative724, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1An image of a movie.
