- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26i have quicksilver installed and use it daily. that being said, i always feel like i'm only using about 3% of it's potential.
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8careful, man. your style of speech is similar to fake digg users. At least make a bad joke or something.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"i have quicksilver installed and use it daily. that being said, i always feel like i'm only using about 3% of it's potential."
Oh I feel the same way, and i keep telling myself that I'm going to eventually find a great tutorial to help me unlock its potential but always feel short of actually doing it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@MrSunshine
moron. - drycounty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8... me? I was getting tired of the Vista this, Vista that... QS = productivity therefore QS=LH
And you know, you can just skip the article too. Who is forcing it down your throat? - generalE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because QuickSilver is not search engine - you can invoke Spotlight from QuickSilver and here's how:
Install the Spotlight plug-in (this will add actions for text objects). Then you invoke QS, hit . (dot) type text, hit TAB end type Spotlight in Window. Hit ENTER. Cool, huh? - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5well, a program is as good as what you use it for - I use QS as a launcher and pretty much nothing else - I haven't seen any real "essential" functions it has other than that, for me anyway. So I'm using 100% of the potential I want, if that makes any sense.
- ploke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use them for different tasks. spotlight finds files. quicksilver launches applications, controls itunes and looks up words in the dictionary/thesaurus.
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I do not use the dock at all. Quicksilver does user interface the way it should be done. Especially when using a laptop, it is handy to never have to lift your hand to use the track pad.
- generalE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was struggling with QS for long time until I found this guide: http://mysite.verizon.net/hmelman/Quicksilver.pdf it is still work in progress but it certainly helped me get some in depth understanding on how QS works and what it can do.
- kazoolist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you are new to Quicksilver, you may want to start with Lifehacker's earlier article, "Hack Attack: A beginner's guide to Quicksilver":

Some brief thoughts of my own on QS:
http://kazoolist.blogspot.com/2007/03/lifehackers-best-mac-apps-part-1-of-3.html#Quicksilver - generalE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you actually read the article, you'd noticed that QS is actually freeware and that blacktree website contains no ads at all :)
- jeffgtr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Quicksilver is a real time saver. I'm happy to have these articles, I've learned a thing or two, especially from this particular article.
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just set Quicksilver to command-space and Spotlight to control-space. It's not meant to replace Spotlight, it's an application launcher, not a document finder.
- gimmeslack12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I love Quicksilver. I use it so much and so often that I forget that it is not part of the Mac OS.
- duarte790, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7This looks like an awesome program, I am happy I bumped into this article.
I will totally download this!!! - auxplage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You must not be on digg much.
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hate going to troubleshoot friends computers as I always try and bring up applications with command-space and it doesn't work.
- kiensoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I also use QS mainly as launcher, but it takes a lots memory if I only use it for that. Sometimes I prefer to launch programs with Spotlight.
- LaweranceOak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4QS is amazing, but I too would love to see some more info on all the features because you know what your help stuff and forum rubs bag. Thats right rubs bag! Might be a small hint to why more people are not on your software! PS send me the money when you read this and update your stuff! I make dreams com true.
- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When QS is in the background it doesnt use any processor cycles on my Intel iMac. When i invoke it (ie. the QS bezel is open), then it uses between 7 and 15 percent.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How is 5 to 10 keystrokes quicker than clicking close with your mouse? Can anyone cut through the rabid salivation of anything for Mac and rationally tell me why this program is so good?
- mok000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After reading the article, I downloaded and installed Quicksilver. It's cool alright, but when I discovered that it continuously is using 25-50% of the CPU cycles, I got rid of it.
Since I always have a iTerm window running I went back to the not-so-cool but useful Quicksilver CLI equivalent:
open -a Safari - ridercologne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1quicksilver's web-search is particularly interesting. activate qs -> type an abbreviation e.g. "imdb" -> press return -> type search-phrase and you're there...
- kladofora, on 06/02/2008, -0/+0THANKS

http://forums.3walim.com/ - bishop1847, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With a few keys I can open a given directory in something like textmate.
Sure, I could just go into iTerm and type: mate ~/Projects/Working
...But I don't always have iTerm in front of me, especially when using VirtueDesktops - mhmdkhamis, on 10/13/2007, -0/+0http://www.paramegsoft.com
http://dir.paramegsoft.com - GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I use Menuet for global iTunes control (all derivatives of control-shift-_something_), so I setup a shortcut (control-shift-f in Quicksilver that'll bring up a standard QS query windows, but it only searches my iTunes library (which is a little on the heavy side at 30k songs, so it's a touch slow). I can bring that up and get to any song (or artist) in my library by typing its name and playing it by hitting enter.
- bishop1847, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And here I thought I'd be reading a blog entry or article about little known Quicksilver features and power techniques.
Not screenshots of the configuration panels. - zetec, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1why do half the comments on this page seem like some adBot or half-retarded marketing company thought this would be a good way to virally promote their product/webpage? These comments are all too helpful, too grammatically correct and too positive.
not to mention that some users, such as duarte790, have no diggs BUT this story (or other quicksilver stories).
I smell alliwantforxmasisapsp-style shennanigans, buried as SPAM. - sharigan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3am I the only one who read the title and thought about the clothing brand?
- joeplayer91, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3only on digg will u see this story on there front page haha
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3sharigan: no, I even buried it as inaccurate because it's not about the clothing brand.
- Derfus, on 10/12/2007, -22/+5am I the only one who's tired of hearing about Quicksilver? I love lifehacker, but come on!

What is Digg?
