- neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Can't wait for this app!!!!
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So have I.
This is going to void the need for .Mac altogether. In fact, syncing with gCal takes it one step further. Now not only can you publish your calendars online, but also view and edit them in an online interface.
Google is slaughtering .Mac. - basye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's good that you can set how often (timewise) to sync them--have been hoping for something like this to come along for awhile.
- tigerdyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Now where could that private beta be hiding? ;)
- ephraimX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You're out of the loop, mate; it's been used for quite some time, by quite a few different sources. Ya might not like it, but it fits the meme and is descriptive at the same time, so I don't think complaining's gonna do anything. :)
- dododod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Google Video link (as they're being dugg)

- sastian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the icon that you think is a battery meter is the CPU meter built into activity monitor (dual processor ill assume)
- samanathon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If only something like this existed for Thunderbird - and truly worked. I'm looking at you Lightning Extension!
- benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think You mean fo' real. Nice way to swear for, like, no reason.
- benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is the bomb for real. iCal can sync with so many devices! This means google calendar on my offline mac, cellphone, and ipod. I never understood why Apple didn't make a rich web interface for the sync data. Oh well who cares it would have been a part of expensive .mac anyway. Thanks Google. And cheers to Spanning Sync for connecting the tubes.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hot spit that's a cool little app.
only thing is i hope you can control whether or not it sits in system preferences or if you can launch it from the dock. i'm not too keen on lots of crap in system preferences (though i can't honestly explain why). - dicerandom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Suggestion for future improvement: When changes are made in iCal push a sync to Google so that you don't have to go and hit it manually or have everyone else wait 10min to see what you did. Whether or not there are actually hooks provided by iCal which would enable one to do that is a technicality I'm not going to concern myself with ;)
- sastian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ME WANT!
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there are many, but the question is why you don't want to use ical. there's microsoft's entourage, mozilla sunbird, heck there's palm desktop. they all do that same thing though, scheduling. and unless you are in a business setting, i can't see why you would opt for something other than ical. though..thinking about it even more, google calendar is a replacement of ical in itself...do you randomly ask questions/heard of google?
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe this will motivate Apple to make some drastic changes to update .mac with the rst of the online services. Free email address and sync features for registered mac owners would be a good start.
- unitethenations, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Non sequitur: Can someone tell me what the application shown in the screencast with an icon that resembles two gold links is? And, perhaps the one that resembles a battery meter with moving liquid?
- goodcompany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, now that you mention it. But I think the problem is in Gmail's rendering of the time block. It is longer after the changes were updated.
- sancho320, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have been waiting for this for soooooo long. I use iCal because I can use it offline. But I use Google for everything else. Finally they are one in the same.
Definitely dugg! - kevincw01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2im so confused as to why there is no pc and gcal sync tool yet. there are several for mac. the scheduleworld link above is not a pc gcal sync tool.
- ephraimX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As linked on the Spanning Sync blog, ScheduleWorld (http://www.scheduleworld.com/?ref=SpanningSync) is recommended.
- basye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks as if the beta testing will begin as soon as some bugs are worked out,
within the next week to 10 days.
BTW, they have a google group set up--"Spanning Sync". - stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Any windows alternative that will do the same?
- jflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the main reason that there isn't a PC-to-Google Calendar sync tool is because Outlook doesn't support shared calendars. In iCal (and most other calendar apps) you can subscribe to online calendars and even share calendars you create with others. Outlook doesn't support that (but will in Office 2007, I think), and it is probably the most popular calendar app for PC.
- ploke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1parallels is the "gold links" one.
www.parallels.com - moovitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just out of curiosity, Will this program be needed after iCal takes on calDAV in the leopard release?
Either way, that is one slick syncing application. Runs much cleaner than even apples isync! - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I never understood why Apple didn't make a rich web interface for the sync data."
I think this is one of the items to be released when an iPhone device finally arrives. Part of the reason why Google and Apple have been partnering lately is collaborating for an online office suite that can sync with Apple's desktop products. Apple can offer the choice of a free Google account at install, or one could opt for more bells and whistles of a .Mac account. But I think lost in this partnership is the possibility of Apple iPods and the future iPhone being able to view GooTube. Many good things can come out of this partnership, but only bad things for Microsoft and Dell. But I am fine with that. - jflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For what its worth, you can sync Google Calendar with iCal now, but it is only one-way - Google to iCal via subscribing.
- shieldss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah. I was Digg #666
Can't wait for this option to be available! - strom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3i think he meant fo' shizzle.
***** - MacBrowser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sooooo cool! will make it so much easier to sync data :-)
- kdhoffman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Did anyone else notice that the length of the lunch appointment did not sync correctly?
I hope they have the bugs worked out before they launch. - salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1For Apple to compete with what Google are doing, they'd have to release .mac for PC. Why would I use a .mac calendar that I can only share with a few people, when I can use gCal and share with anyone.
- cbwood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually the length of the lunch appointment did sync correctly--iCal just shows half-hour increments more clearly than does gCal. Look closely. After the refresh, "Lunch with Finn" starts at 12:00p and ends at 1:30p.
:-) - pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seems to me that's something they would have considered by now and there's probably good reason they are not doing it (time, or technical difficulty). I actually expected that to happen when I was watching the demo.
- alecks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I posted this on your gGroups, but if you see it here first, Please, Please Please... add support for google's hosted services!!!
- pascalX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GCALDaemon is an open source application that lets you do a two-way synchronization between Google Calendar and your iCal-compatible calendar program (iCal, Rainlender, Thunderbird, etc):
http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net - Morky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think iCal is pretty good, but my .mac syncing experience has been poor. Apparently iCal has been overhauled in Leopard, so you may want to watch out for that.
- samiru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And by PC you mean Windows, right? Well, let's look at it. Google Calendar supports ICalendar (no, it's not from Apple) standard, which is supported by several applications (some of them are for Windows, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar): 30 Boxes, AiAi, Apple's iCal application, Darwin Calendar Server, Contactizer and iPod, Chandler, Drupal with its event module, eventSherpa, FirstClass, Google Calendar, Jalios JCMS, KOrganizer, Kronolith, Lotus Notes, Lovento, Mozilla Calendar (including Mozilla Sunbird), Mulberry, Plum Canary Chirp, Novell Evolution, Nuvvo, ScheduleWorld, Simple Groupware, Upcoming.org, WebCalendar, Windows Calendar, Zimbra Collaboration Suite, and Microsoft Outlook.
- sastian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...
- ismhackett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0dracula7, Entourage isn't bad.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1is there any alternative os x app to ical? its not very good
- Majdaa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3damn...i was thinking of building an app like that myself, oh well, it looks better than what I would've done either way
- exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5I think you mean "fo' real." Nice way to use '90s vernacular, btw. Like, duh.
This is going to ***** my karma. - exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Won't anyone comment on the use of the word "Screencast?"
Stupid portmanteaus and back formation.
