- InorganicMatter, on 11/25/2008, -10/+46Looks like Apple's little stunt with their Software Updater on Windows is still paying off...
On a side note, poor Opera! Chrome has already caught up and is pulling ahead. How far they have fallen. - GrantMVP, on 11/25/2008, -3/+34As long as IE is not gaining market share its all gravy.
- Lloydinator, on 11/25/2008, -7/+35Buried for using OneStat information.
- ElBeh, on 11/25/2008, -1/+28As a rule of thumb, Apple software is awesome on Macs, but bloated ***** on Windows.
- frodirk, on 11/25/2008, -0/+18Well, duh, chrome gained market share in 2008? compared to what? 2007?
- Narcism, on 11/25/2008, -3/+19You mean Chrome went from not existing to existing and people use it? no way.
- depro9, on 11/25/2008, -7/+22Apple forced users to download Safari. Just more PR lies from Apple.
- saadkamal, on 11/25/2008, -4/+19Opera is doing well in the mobile browser market.
- 3mpire, on 11/25/2008, -0/+14what, are you retarded?
- Zippo, on 11/25/2008, -6/+19I imagine the iPhone has a decent bit to do with Safari's increased market share.
- UselessTrivia, on 11/25/2008, -0/+101) highlight googleupdate.exe
2) press Delete key
3) remove tinfoil hat - aserer511, on 11/25/2008, -2/+10safari only gained because more macs were sold. NO ONE is using Safari for PC, and few I would wager would go from, FF back to Safari, on either platform
- FredFredrickson, on 11/25/2008, -2/+10Every time iTunes wants to update, Apples tries to slip Safari past the gates too. Such *****.
- digitnsm, on 11/25/2008, -2/+9Exhibit A: iTunes.
- maeon3, on 11/25/2008, -2/+9May the fastest/cheapest/robust/best browser win.
This is why competition is good, the consumer wins. We need to create internet connectivity price wars by opening the white spaces radio frequencies. Imagine internet for several dollars a month instead of paying $50 - $100 a month. - MattBD, on 11/25/2008, -7/+13I tried Safari once in Windows and thought it sucked. When I got my MacBook I used Safari once - to download Firefox. I use Firefox mostly as Linux is my main OS, although if I'm creating a web page I prefer to use Konqueror as I can have the directory open in one tab and the page in another. Chrome is awesome as well.
- Grazfather, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6Yeah, but since the entire population is growing, there are still more and more users using IE :s.
- ingoldsby, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5While I do like Google Chrome quite a bit due to its speed and simple interface, it's really hard for me to stop using firefox. It's those god damn plugins I tell you. Adblock? Check, Mouse gestures? Check, Noscript? Check..
If chrome gets plugin support like that... oh man am I there.
And Opera users... I don't want to hear it. I try Opera ever release and just can't get down with it. - MacParrot, on 11/25/2008, -3/+8Haven't tried Chrome yet, but typically use Safari on the Mac side and either Safari, Firefox or IE on the Windows side.
Safari still seems like the fastest browser, but Firefox seems to be better able to handle some sites that vary a bit on web standards. Use them all. Why not? They're free - Grazfather, on 11/25/2008, -4/+9Ugh Safari sucks. Apple's beign retarded by bundling it with iTunes. iTunes is the only piece of apple software I like, and with this bundling crap, and songbird nearing 1.0 for Windows, I might have to switch.
- frazw, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5I'm forced to ask why anyone really cares what browsers other people use.
I can understand web and browser developers being interested but beyond them I don't know why you'd care. - dissolutionman, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Hmm. Since its introduction, Chrome usage is up by... divide by zero?
OH SHI-- - MtheoryX, on 11/25/2008, -1/+5I loath FF on a mac. WebKit nightlies FTW!
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -3/+7I use that browser with the orange fox.
- frazw, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4You are using a browser for the wrong reasons. It's about function not popularity or hype.
I won't even tell you what browser I use because it doesn't ***** matter to anyone but me. I don't care what anyone else uses, so long as my chosen browser stays alive, and there is suficient variety to make standards important but even then I'd just choose the best of the rest. - etx313, on 11/25/2008, -3/+7Exhibit B: Quicktime Player.
- Galaxylander, on 11/25/2008, -2/+6Mac Fan: Yeah, pretty much. Just like Office for Mac is bloated and *****. :P
Neither companies know how to develop for eachother. A rule of thumb, is to not buy software from the competitor of your OS choice. :P - sn0wball78, on 11/25/2008, -3/+6IE is dead in the water. The problem is that people with no computer interests use it because "it is the internet".
Safari is good on Mac and iPhone, but not really on Windows. Chrome is going to climb up the ranks because of all those Google whores out there... me included.
Just to mention Avant Browser, Konqueror, Flock, Arachne, Epiphany, K-Meleon, AOL Explorer and a few others to be political correct - there are enough browsers to pick from.
I jumped the Firefox hype when the little red fox was born, but nowadays it is so hyped I want to puke. It is an overhyped trend amongst semi geeks, and I just cannot stand it.
Personally I ride the underdog, and I love it. one word: OPERA!! The only alternative for those who know what quality is.
So get your shovel Firefox zombie boys and bury me. I know you want to… - somberlaine, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3I am just amazed that Netscape has a market share.
- goffy59, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4Wrong; the government will illegally take the information from Google, as well as any other company who stores large amounts of data. So get up and fight the good fight. Stop the government from violating your 4th amendment. Stop the NSA/AT&T!
- UselessTrivia, on 11/25/2008, -2/+5Safari on OSX came in very handy as a way to download firefox.
- HouseofEl, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3No one is using safari on a PC and Chrome is nice, but it's not there yet for me. Opera is fine, but I just can't get into it. No real reason why. FF is basically a security blanket in the sense that I have it customized to my specific habits. Yeah I could probably get these things elsewhere, but I'm comfortable for now.
- kreatre2007, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3Well this is great. It will help influence web development to not just adhere to Internet Explorer. We shouldn't have to maintain multiple browsers just to be able to view certain websites.
- UselessTrivia, on 11/25/2008, -2/+4You'd probably like Chrome is you like Safari. It uses the same rendering engine, plus it has a much improved javascript interpreter. Plus the interface is very clean. I've never cared for Safari's UI. Mobile Safari, on the other hand is quite simply the best mobile browser ever.
- ofenza, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2actually I know people who use safari on the PC, and they don't have macs.
- saadkamal, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3heh! Safari is not new. Only chrome is.
- kibbledbits, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3I go back and forth between Safari and Chrome. Safari entirely on my Mac and Chrome mostly on my work PC. I find Google sites work better in Chrome, for instance to embed an image into Blogger I used Chrome, it wouldn't work in Safari on Windows.
FireFox 3 just looks ugly now and IE is just terrible, no built-in spell check and terribly slow. - imautobot, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3I can understand Chrome, but Safari? Safari blows, and Mobile Safari blows donkeys. It probably looks like it gaining market share because they practically force you to download it with iTunes and Quicktime. Yeah, I know you can avoid it if you pay attention to menus, but seriously, how many people do that. They want their iTunes, or their Quicktime fix, and the quickest way to get it is to click yes to everyting.
I'd kill for a version of Firefox or Chrome on my iPhone. Why am I being forced to use an inferior browser on my iPhone? Because if Apple allowed someone else to make a browser it would be like admitting that theirs sucks. NOTE TO APPLE, Pride is a SIN! A Deadly SIN! - falafelkiosken, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3…or just an idealist
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -3/+5Paranoid much? Just ***** get rid of all Google software if you are so afraid.
- Grazfather, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2I'm saying it's a good thing. It's actually kind of depressing.
- Grazfather, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2I'm NOT saying it's a good thing***
- Platina, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Try removing that to. And just use yahoo, or something else.
- eatrains, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Those stats are pretty meaningless because they're based only on visitors to the w3schools site, which would obviously tend to be used by more tech-savvy users.
- MtheoryX, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3Webkit's Squirrelfish JS compiler is at least as fast, and perhaps faster, than Chrome's V8.
Plus, it's available on more than just Windows. - kibbledbits, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2dugg for not being a one liner. Safari is a pleasant experience on the Mac, maybe not complete for everyone but I haven't had a need for another browser, on my Mac at least.
- kibbledbits, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Since there are lots of stupid people many of which have lots of stupid kids and buying cheap computers to put in their bedroom from the age of 7 so they can surf porn, yea IE will grow in market share.
So will the following companies: M&M/Mars, Microsoft, pharmaceutical companies (ritalin, prozac) and NewsCorp (MySpace). - deepleet, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2People still use Netscape?
- MtheoryX, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1I was an avid FF user, until I discovered Webkit nightlies. I'll never switch back to FF, ever, as my main browser.
