- deckster, on 10/11/2007, -28/+89wow, i'm really starting to like Safari.
- greatromance, on 10/11/2007, -3/+61I've liked using Safari a lot so far, but I doubt I'd ever switch from Firefox. It's all about the plugin base.
- kijiro, on 10/11/2007, -31/+69Go Safari team! Great work!
- TruthElixirX, on 10/11/2007, -24/+52Steve Jobs.
- ravi7791, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32Porn mode.
- aule, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24What's up with the restart required after installing and upgrading the Safari Beta (in OS X); what? is OS X all of a sudden turning into Windows?
- fxspec06, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25Nobody cares about your computer specs.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22wow!
i installed safari 3.0 right after it's initial announcement and i couldn't get it off my mac fast enough because of how much it sucked. reluctantly i thought wtf and gave .02 a try. the vast improvements and revisions in this early point release are very promising. - rYno, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20why link to webkit? Just link to the safari download page...
- gmoney1, on 10/11/2007, -8/+25Wow, much quicker than before, good ol' apple updating stuff fast.
- CrazedGeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16I think it updates the system-wide WebKit, so it has to do a restart to update the various already-running apps that use WebKit (i.e., Dashboard, Mail.app, Adium, etc.)
- pugnator, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20I am finally able to run it! Good news!
- bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17In trying Safari out on Windows I thought it was noticeably faster than Firefox. I also think that Safari has the best RSS support out of the box without any extensions or plug-ins.
Also the text find (which I use a lot) is the best Text Find in any piece of software EVER. - bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I sent out a couple of test emails and it looks like a "yes", but I can't say for sure.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14I hope Apple's next step (other than a Windows version of iChat) is to create some sort of plugin mechanism for Safari.
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14all i know is it fixed my text display issues for my ("unsupported") win2k install. well... most of them, anyway. it's now usable. so... yay!
- liquilife, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17I am not trying to be rude or accusing, it's just a simple naive question here. What does Safari offer for windows browsing that is not yet done by IE, Firefox or even Opera? Is there a reason why one would switch?
- fudgebrown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14runs a lot faster for me - i waited until 3.0.2 to actually check it out - and i am happy with its performance so far...
- DaffyDuck, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13I noticed that too. No restart required in Windows but one is required in OS X. Ouch.
- Rkstar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Here are my two big issues with the Safari Beta, that hopefully will be fixed:
- The new find feature... it doesn't work on sites with frames. Worked just fine with Safari 2.
- The "Block pop up windows". I can't ever remember getting an ad popping up with Safari 2, happens all the time with Safari 3. - keeganzero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13I love the look and feel of Safari, but the plug ins and how large images resize in the browser are the only reason I'm sticking to the fox.
- bbardlbradd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Safari isn't competing yet. If anything they are trying to get people to check it out. Giving people time to find it for windows and so on... The iPhone's going to get a lot of people wondering about the full version of Safari... After that time, if there's a full release, then it'll be time to compete...
IMHO Safari is a really nice browser, Safari 3 improves on a LOT that I disliked about 2, so if they keep it up they might actually be able to compete with ff... But still, there's a lot of work ahead of them too... maybe Safari 4 will be Apple's Browser game face. - bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14I'm gonna check it out now... anybody know if it fixes Gmail? I've been having a lot of problems using it on the Beta (OS X)
- Ultramagnus0001, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10God Dammit!! It's Faster
- Angostura, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Fixes incompatibility with the AirTrafficControl widget... which is nice.
- zephc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Actually its "blurry" because it *is* pixel perfect. google for Mac versus Windows font rendering. In short, MS's ClearType forces fonts into pixel grids and Apple's font rendering tries to render more true to the way the glyphs were designed. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and both tend to be a matter of taste based on what you're used to.
- abandonedhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7And it addition to that, Safari has no extensions - which speeds it up. That also means less functionality - which is the kicker for me.
- kris33, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Safari is much faster. Pages load instantly on fast servers. I still prefer Firefox though.
- kris33, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I think it is because the beta isn't just a single application, it also make changes to the Dashboard.
- abandonedhero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Your mom.
- joel8x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7You are correct - the Mac version isn't just the browser, its Webkit which is used by a lot of other applications and the OS itself.
- bedouin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I was running the beta for a while but had to go back. Mainly because I can't live without Acidsearch and Pithhelmet, which are both incompatible with Safari 3.0. Any hacks or replacements until updates for those two are released?
- Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6So how do you block ads with this one? Is there an integrated way? Any plugin? Do one have to use a third party filtering proxy like Proxomitron? This isn't a flame on Safari's feature set -- at this point I'm just curious, because of things like news sites with crazy amounts of ads.
- etx313, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I hope this is an experiment. Well done.
- infobhan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Frames need to go away.
- Khemikl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Even on 2.0 some pop-ups get through, they need to fix this because it still happens
- bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Not to be a dick but Tiger is 2 year old software. Gotta upgrade if you want the new stuff.
- apologeticus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8hey, my gmail widget works again! glad they fixed that
- Machine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Can we use Gmail chat in Safari yet? It's the only thing that's prevented me from using Safari on my Mac for the last year or so.
- bbardlbradd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I personally don't think Safari looks bad on windows... wait.. OH NOES! There's no GLASS!!!! OMF, nvm, how dare them deny us Vista users, developers and email checkers alike our most beloved eye candy...
Digg community, I know you all love doing things for me, so will at least one of my windows fanbois digg me down plz. thx. - Shadow2531, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Besides competition and all that, being able to test web pages in Safari if you only have Windows, is awesome. Browser-cam-like sites are no fun.
- blooperspree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What the hell are you talking about?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I've been playing around with Safari since it's Windows relase but there are still 2 major issues that will keep me from switching to it full time. One is not having the ability to turn on AdBlock Plus when I run into an AWFUL website full of ads that clutter up and get in the way. The second issue maybe one that can be blamed on my not knowing how to customize what I want, but I HATE the default way Safari handles bookmarks. I can't get a dropdown menu with bookmarks and actually have to browse away from a site to check bookmarks to see an entire page of bookmarks.
- anonym41414, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5If you look at the change list, you'll see fixes for both Mail and iChat. That's because WebKit is a system-level framework used by a lot of programs, not just Safari. The restart is to make sure you don't end up with two different versions of the WebKit framework loaded into memory at the same time.
- dave1021, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8We don't. It'll be good for testing purposes if you're designing web pages, though. That is, if you care what Apple users can see. In my experience, most clients really don't.
- dave1021, on 10/11/2007, -15/+20Wake me when it's out of beta.
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Right now? About 360 people.
- mikev, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I wish they included the new Webkit inspector in this build. Oh well, guess it's back to the nightlies for me...
- sneeka2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'll go with standards compatibility as a main argument for Safari. Not that FF isn't good in that regard either (anything is better than IE actually), but Safari is a little ahead in implementing new specs like CSS3. Anything that pushes new standard compliant specs is Good™.
Also I like the absolute simplicity of Safari, but that's a personal preference. - trylleklovn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Thats like saying Windows is better because of the games.
