Run iPhone apps in the background!

code.google.com — I found this little app on Cydia for jailbroken iPhones. I tested it and was able to run Pandora in the background while I text and do whatever else I wanted. The app is called "Backgrounder". Bout the coolest app Ive found for the iPhone. There's 2 ways to do it. Check it out!

  • Invid, on 10/02/2008, -0/+2Same here. Unfortunately it conflicts with QuickGold (spotlight style search) and won't work for me. Hopefully the dev can make this work so I can listen to NPR with Tuner while browsing feeds in NetNewsWire. The awesome potential is overwhelming.

    I can't give up QuickGold. Global app/contact/browser history search is a killer app.

  • LennyX, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1I installed Backgrounder, tried voice recording in the background. It worked. I thought about whether there are any other ways I could use it - there weren't so I uninstalled it. Good idea, but not terribly useful to me. I guess it's because I don't use IM much.

  • Invid, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Scratch that...it's Intelliscreen that is causing the problem. I just went through and uninstalled/disabled jailbroken apps until I found the culprit. I've added a bug report to the google code page. I think I'll file a bugreport with Intelliscreen too.

    If I recall correctly, Intelliscreen just removed its mobile substrate dependency. That might be the problem right there.

    Hurray for homebrew that fixes Apple's mistakes!
  • valleyman86, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Wow after messing with it for a while I found out it lets me sync while listening to pandora as well. This is cool! Im using a jailbroken 2.1 iPhone as well.
  • cyberwiz01, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Apparently it only has issues with QuickGold and some applications. I run QuickGold and this utility worked fine with Pandora, but not with Airsharing. Go Figure. Hopefully these bugs get worked out soon as this is an awesome utility.
