new year's resolution 2007 - dont buy anymore apple products (failed)
new year's resolution 2008 - dont buy anymore apple products (pending failure) - mrloco, on 01/02/2008, -1/+20isn't the current Macbook trackpad is already multitouch if it can distinguish whether you have 1 or 2 fingers on it?
- hit9ent, on 01/02/2008, -7/+17I found a pic of what the sub notebook "looks like"
http://muskawo.blogspot.com/2008/01/apple-sub-note ... - zioxide, on 01/02/2008, -0/+10Yes. It would be cool if they could add a few more gestures to it, like the pinching for zooming in/out, etc.
- rollem, on 01/02/2008, -3/+11If it's better/cheaper/faster than my current mac, will I get a $100 apple gift card?
- MacParrot, on 01/02/2008, -0/+8RAmen
- badwithcomputer, on 01/02/2008, -2/+10..."get it dugg" ?
i don't remember getting any emails from brian this morning asking me to submit this...i'll go check my bulk folder - TheWorm, on 01/02/2008, -1/+8Buried as a quadruplicate.
- douggmc, on 01/02/2008, -0/+6Don't fight it ... go with it. Let the infamous "reality distortion field" have its way with you. In the end you'll be much happier. I will be too as Apple stock keeps climbing.
May the FSM Bless You! - Klarth, on 01/02/2008, -1/+7Not trying to ride the irony train with this, but... That's clearly - and badly - photoshopped.
- wild, on 01/02/2008, -1/+6You can sit back and wait for MacWorld about a minute beforehand. (Thats when everyone freaks out about which site has the best live updating.)
Any time earlier than that would just be crazy talk. - etandrib, on 01/02/2008, -0/+5If you just get rid of the "don't" in your resolutions then you would be keeping them! :-)
- inactive, on 01/02/2008, -2/+6How many god damn rumors do we have to have before we can simply sit back, and wait for macworld?
- MacParrot, on 01/02/2008, -1/+5Can we PLEASE get over this "For Apple to succeed, everyone else has to die" attitude? Apple has been pretty much running on all cylinders for the last few years and that's great, but I doubt that Dell or HP has to burst into flames and burn to the ground for Apple to continue to be successful.
The beleagered about to die days of Apple are long past. Let's get over it and remember that other people DON'T have to make the same choices in tech that you do. - ThinkBox, on 01/02/2008, -2/+6Link to Gizmodo... which says nothing and links to macrumors.... which was a dupe earlier today.
This is blog spam at its worst - inactive, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4I'm with etandrib, very rarely use the optical drive, so it might aswell be external.
- ferrariman60, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4Now it would be awesome if they made the trackpad OLED or something so it were a second display- think "Mac DS." That'd be absolutely sick, and useful if they implemented it properly.
- Ireland, on 01/02/2008, -5/+9If Steve demos a multi-touch iPhone-like tablet on stage at Macworld - namely "Mac touch" - this sub-notebook rumor will be the last thing on peoples minds.
11" Mac touch with pop-out rest on rear FTW!! :D - Falldog, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4Looks the same, a bit smaller, costs twice as much, sounds about right.
- etandrib, on 01/02/2008, -3/+7Isn't a heavy and thick device defeatist for an ultraportable device? Seriously, do I really need to explain this to you? I guess so.
I haven't used the CD/DVD drive in my MacBook since August - do I really need it all the time? No. Do I really need it some of the time? Maybe. To install/ Rip / or move files (maybe) but this (rumored macbook) is for the person who is like me and has pretty much moved to a diskless world or for those who have a desktop (with a drive) and don't care if the portable has one. I think it is actually very wise to not include the optical drive. Apple was the first to discard the floppy and now they are phasing out the CD/DVD drives. I'm not surprised and it does "make sense" and "is welcome". - jonshipman, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3People buying this device don't plan on playing DVD on the go. You might as well buy a Macbook Regular for that.
- BLAM8, on 01/02/2008, -1/+45shocker, I specifically said no badging of linked stories on Giz, and we continue to uphold that policy. I didn't submit this story. Get the facts straight before your rant, please.
- mrloco, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3surely that's just software based.
- deadbaby, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Or you could simply rip the movie to your hard drive using HandBreak.
- MacParrot, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Are you telling me you didn't get yours yet?
- digjam, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3NOT AGAIN!
- ajchavar, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2it makes sense to me, unless your only computer is an ultraportable.
i never use the optical drive on my laptop unless i'm installing software, so i could see it being annoying for that though.
but otherwise i just rip my DVDs ti my HD when I plan on traveling so that i dont need to carry DVDs (also not portable if you're carrying media)
and don't kid yourself, the only good games on a mac are mostly free, downloadable, or, in most cases, both. - thesledman, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2A sub $500 laptop from Apple, lol. thats a good one.
- TyAbele, on 01/02/2008, -1/+3That's one big ass mouse button! And is the track pad two shades of gray?
- crees!, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2Buried as this just points to another post that is already Dugg.
- Gee1004, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2I'm still waiting for flash on my iPhone.
- KidTechno, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2ha!.... i like it
- Stelex, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2I think you'll find that this thing will be as expensive as MacBook Pro
- Zippo, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2Just resolve to not buy Apple products until after a keynote presentation.
- meatmcguffin, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2AFAIK it can't detect *where* the fingers are, only that there are two of them present and the direction they are moving in
- rickcarson, on 01/02/2008, -1/+3The tablet _is_ the sub-notebook.
- batmant, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1My two year old Macbook has a multitouch trackpad. Just needs the software to harness. Nothing new there.
- JohnyD, on 01/03/2008, -0/+153+ million people disagree with you.
- ssj2119, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1I just got a macbook pro, hopefully the functionality of the track pad like an iPhone would work on this, I don't see why it wouldnt
- mrgono3, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1yep and the point of such a big touchpad?
- JohnyD, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Perhaps the premium on Apple products is due to the volume that inevitably ends up in our landfills. Not sh1tting on Apple products or anything (just bought a Macbook myself) but to me Apple is synonymous with "materialism".
Which I suppose would be synonymous with "average American". HA... I just made myself laugh!
edit: my Macbook is the best system I've had to date... and my upgrades are at least 5 years apart. - mrgono3, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1its up to you. there should be some kind of portable device coming out. if i were u i would wait
- mrgono3, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1what would u want to zoom on?
- inactive, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Agreed, I rarely use the optical drives on my MacBook or my iMac.
- wiihuck, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1trying to see *where* the OP said *where*....
- ibeetle, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Isn't this all from the same people that brought us the "confirmed" rumor that Apple was not only going to announce the Beatles catalog for iTunes on Super Bowl Sunday, but it would be accompanied by a Limited Edition Yellow Submarine iPod.
- JohnyD, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Joe Mama?
- JohnyD, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Well... they did include the BSOD with Leopard... ;)
- ArthurSucks, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1I hope it follows the trend of light weight low cost laptops. A tiny sub $500 Apple laptop would be a killer for the Laptop market.
- ferrariman60, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1You could have dynamic shortcuts showing up on the touch pad, scroll arrows that only show up when applicable, and generally cool ***** going on. Useful? Maybe only a little. But wouldn't it be awesome to have your touch pad to be able to, say, function as a visualizer for itunes or something? I think that'd be awesome. In a marginally useful sort of way. But then again, if they had a team of people on it, I bet they'd come up with something very useful. Creativity is not exactly my strong suit, sorry.
