- iizh, on 07/22/2008, -7/+136I will refuse to buy it unless it fits in a manila envelope.
- znicket, on 07/22/2008, -15/+94And of course geeks start complaining about the possible lack of physical keyboard... again.
They don´t seem to grasp the notion that some devices are aimed at a different style of usage - those who simply need a lightweight web browser in their hands may not be overly concerned about writing long emails, code or snarky digg comments. That is the market demographic. Not the overly communicative 00-generation.
It is possible to view a new product and appreciate how it may benefit others. Maybe not you, but others.
I would love to have a device like that in my travel case - in meetings and presentations. If I need to input some heavy text - I have access to my work-horse computer. - otterj, on 07/22/2008, -4/+72"This is some sick *****."

- ocellnuri, on 07/22/2008, -4/+56Amen. I've never understood why people get so offended by the existence of a product that they don't personally have a need for.
- Shahreel, on 07/22/2008, -1/+46October? I thought something as exciting as this would be unveiled at Macworld..
- ajb2015, on 07/22/2008, -4/+43i'm sure you'll be able to buy an attachable one at the conveniently low price of $129.
- NatimusRex, on 07/22/2008, -1/+33I love my Apple products, but man do they make you feel like a dirty human being with all those smudges.
"Don't touch me with your gross HUMAN fingers" - winnch, on 07/22/2008, -5/+36Guarantee number 1: it will not include a SuperDrive -- or perhaps any drive at all.
Guarantee number 2: it will not be cheap. (I say nothing of value -- just price.) - dragon76, on 07/22/2008, -2/+30You speak like it's a released product. Doesn't WIndows Vista have a relational database file system?
- ryleyleckie, on 07/22/2008, -2/+25i think macbook touch is probably a better name...
- jspegele, on 07/22/2008, -11/+33Would be a cool product to play around with, but I would need a physical keyboard for me to ever get real use out of it. I wouldn't want to type too much on a touch screen. But if it's exactly like the current macbook, except the screen is multi-touch, I'm in.
- Lane, on 07/22/2008, -1/+20I swear apple "leaks" these things on purpose to bounce ideas off the public and get a reaction.
- Wakuko, on 07/22/2008, -11/+27Winblows 7 won't be out til late 2011 so ***** no, it does not support multitouch, yet.
- greatblackowl, on 07/22/2008, -3/+17Naw, man. Forget the keyboard: If it doesn't have cut and paste-- now that's something we should get worked up about.
- inactive, on 07/22/2008, -0/+13don't say "boss"
- Kakemonstere, on 07/22/2008, -19/+32Doesnt Windows 7 support multitouch or am i just making stuff up?
- digglet08, on 07/22/2008, -5/+17Yay! Now I'll just go burn my new Macbook!
- Diggnabbit, on 07/22/2008, -2/+13Intriguing. But, I agree that some sort of keyboard is probably necessary. I mean, I'd liek to try it out, but I doubt that I'd want to to type for long periods on a touch screen, even if the keyboard were full-sized.
- lavarock09, on 07/22/2008, -0/+11That's simple...
Apple just pushes to sell their wireless keyboard...maybe make an even smaller version..just like with the external superdrive.
Well that's what I assume they would do. - Dralite, on 07/22/2008, -4/+15Make it a table and I think you'll have something!
- gasin, on 07/22/2008, -2/+13on the surface of it, that does sound mildly interesting! :)
- BlueStarr, on 07/22/2008, -0/+11Or you could easily prop up the tablet on a kind of pedestal and pull out a very thin but lightweight bluetooth keyboard. Does Apple make a thin, sleek and very beautiful bluetooth aluminum keyboard...?....umm, yeah!
rumors= me all excited!
I love the Apple rumor game. - dawgma, on 07/22/2008, -0/+10Who used the word revolutionary? WHO??
Just you buddy. Just you. - kraetos, on 07/22/2008, -2/+12I call ***** on the optical drive. If they're not going to give one to the MacBook Air, they're certainly not going to give one to a Mobile OS X tablet.
Other than that, though, this looks sweet. - Smuikas, on 07/22/2008, -0/+9hey! I'm writing this snarky comment from my iPhone! ...bastard...
- digitaldivinci, on 07/22/2008, -0/+9They do have a traditional conference in October. If I am not mistaken, it was where they announced the iPod Nano and iPod with Video. Both of which are arguably large deals.
- vanza001, on 07/22/2008, -1/+10iTouchMyself
- inactive, on 07/22/2008, -0/+9"which have been available for at least the past 4 years"...
with such horrid software implementation that nobody sees an advantage of owning a touch screen in their computers.
I am an owner of a Thinkpad Tablet, one of the best tablets money can buy (hardware wise), but I am extremely disappointed in the tablet "features" microsoft has to offer. Their impotence in showing any innovation completely kills such an awesome idea of tablets. That's what Apple excels in, Innovating the user interface. - Marumekomu, on 07/22/2008, -5/+14"anyone who complains about NEEDING tactile feedback are just people clinging to the past"
Enjoy your comparatively low WPM, *****. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -3/+12their secret product is a laptop, touchscreen (for the keyboard) and touchscreen (for the monitor).
Start lining up, Mac-sters, everything you own is obsolete. - punkcat, on 07/22/2008, -0/+8if it supported a pen for drawing i'd be interested in it.
no, finger painting wouldn't cut it. - chadisawesome, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8right click.... whoops... jumped on that 'save comment' button a little too fast.
and right click was removed from their hardware, but never their software. - deltron, on 07/22/2008, -3/+10Good, they need something to rival that piece of ***** HP Touch that's out right now.
- keitho, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8how many millions of airs have been sold?
- bytor4232, on 07/22/2008, -0/+7Think about it: I'm sure this device has USB ports. Plug in a full kbd and mouse when your docked, popup and multitouch when your out and about.
I'd say perfect. I might have to have one! - Failchan, on 07/23/2008, -4/+11I will refuse to buy it unless it gives me a blowjob.
- inactive, on 07/22/2008, -7/+14iDGAF
- mrmayor92, on 07/23/2008, -5/+11it also features a wonderful blue screen
- lordtyros, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6"Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins."
So they'll sell at a loss, but make up for it in volume? GENIUS! - mrsteveman1, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6I have yet to see anyone come up with a valid parts list comparison that shows macs, any of them, to be twice as expensive.
If you're going to compare them to Dell boxes you might as well be comparing them to laptops because thats what the mini and imac are, laptop parts. - ctrlfreak13, on 07/22/2008, -2/+8A tablet-like mac has been in and out of rumors for a long time, and the introduction of multi-touch has continued to fuel it. Regardless, I still hope it's true this time..
- dynamojoe, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6(sigh) again?
- worminater, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6how did you pick up one of those for 800? I would be all over one for that price...
- jspegele, on 07/22/2008, -2/+7I didn't say I couldn't, I said I wouldn't want to. Half the screen would be taken up by the keyboard and the screen would have to be on your lap/table/etc while you're typing, giving you a bad angle. Who said anything about tactical feedback? Why is it that every time I comment on a Digg article somebody has to go and read ***** that isn't there?
- Diggnabbit, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6Well, I'm just thinking of the things that people usually buy computers for: work and school. For both of those, you need to be able to type a lot.
I'm a huge Mac fan, but if I'm going to buy a computer I want it to do more than just be a pretty way to browse the web and watch movies. (I can do that on my iPhone.)
(Actually, some sort of intermediate device that's like half the size of a laptop but bigger than an iPhone might be cool.) - zephc, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5Zoom?
- Omek, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5I've been waiting for it. I will definitely upgrade my Powerbook the day they release the first multitouch Macbook Pro.
It will be especially nice if it gives you the same functionality as a tablet. Although, I'm sure tablet businesses are likely ***** themselves if this is true. As a graphic designer, it would be so much easier to sketch and paint in Photoshop and Illustrator. - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -4/+9Marumekomu, if you think about it, wpm would actually increase if less time was spent in pressing the keys and lifting our fingers. Currently, we're all almost hardwired into thinking that typing means pushing keys, but all it actually is just sequentially pointing at various points on the "input surface".
Once we get out of the habit of conventional typing, touch screen typing would eventually yield much higher wpm capabilities than one can achieve with current keyboards. -
