- Frazzlet, on 07/29/2008, -2/+24Both rumours have been on the front page enough already I think.
- serpicolugnut, on 07/29/2008, -1/+13If the "tehrealmccoy" actually comparison shopped, he see that feature for feature, the Macbooks/Macbook Pro's are competitive with other notebooks, and in the higher end, actually cheaper. Hey dude - 1999 called, and they want their flimsy out of date argument against Macs back!
- tonich03, on 07/29/2008, -0/+11Honest question here: why is a glass trackpad better?
- rebotfc, on 07/29/2008, -1/+11plus u can have a screen behind it.
- drlha, on 07/29/2008, -0/+10Presumably it means that they use the same multitouch technology that is on the iPhone, which is much more accurate and sensitive than a regular trackpad.
- elveis, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9MactheRipper has been around for 4 years.
http://www.mactheripper.org/ - freshyill, on 07/29/2008, -2/+11Frankly, I don't care what crazy ***** they include. I'm sure whatever they announce this fall (I hope it's this fall) will be a very nice upgrade. I'm in the market for a MacBook Pro, and I'll be glad when they *finally* announce it -- whatever it ends up being.
- mrsteveman1, on 07/29/2008, -1/+8I'm not really sure i would like it if the surface of my trackpad was glass, you do way more dragging on a laptop than you do on the iphone, where you do more tapping.
Trackpads have to let your fingers slide easily. - themuffinman, on 07/29/2008, -2/+9Wouldn't blocking heat be a bad thing?
- j3st3r, on 07/29/2008, -0/+7They should start forging them from deep within the fires of MORDOR.
- Commodus, on 07/29/2008, -0/+6The custom hardware IS NOT THE PROCESSOR. People keep misinterpreting this. It's the mainboard chipset; Intel will still provide the main processor and so Mac OS X will still work as it does now.
- bradspry, on 07/29/2008, -1/+7How quickly people forget about Apple's custom G5 architecture. Below is a link to information about how it applied to the G5-based Xserve. Apple had a ton of experience designing high-performance custom chipsets well before their PA Semi acquisition.
http://www.apple.bg/bul/apple/hardware/xserve/xser ... - drlha, on 07/29/2008, -1/+6Generally dropping laptops is a bad idea anyway. If you're going to drop the laptop from a distance that would break an embedded piece of hardened glass, then the rest of it is going to be pretty ***** up.
- zmigliozzi, on 07/29/2008, -0/+5My G4 Powerbook is aluminum big deal.
- Dylson, on 07/29/2008, -0/+5More fail than u can shake a stick at.
- glomza, on 07/29/2008, -3/+7Rumor: I drink your milkshake.
- MixedSpleens, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4If "serpicolugnut" actually used the reply button, this would be easier to follow. ;)
- nesagwa, on 07/29/2008, -2/+6Im not sure I like all these "you better not drop this *****" upgrades.
- kevinmotel, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4handbrake is also very good
- cdigioia, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4***** I know I'll get buried for this but...where does that "***** you, 2 of my friends..." bit come from?
- SPECOPS, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3handbrake has even been ported for PC (I don't know how well it works on the PC but its great on the Mac). What's next on your list? No VLC for Mac either? You're going to have to come up with a better list.
- themuffinman, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3They'll cost the same, and only one or two of the rumors will be true. It's apple, we've been through this before.
- davidwasman, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3The only factual comment in that whole article was the one about White Suits and Midgets.
Other than that, it was full of...nothing. - PartlySean, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't be surprised. Apple probably saves millions and millions of dollars a year due to viral advertising like this.
- buddyw, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3The problem is, the heat tends to escape to your lap, which is very uncomfortable. I polymer case with large heatsink/vent on the side is much more comfortable for the user.
Aluminum laptops probably have the potential to dissipate more heat, but it's not like all non-aluminum laptops have an overheating problem. - Qrange, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Buried, reported and blocked.
- crashlock, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Amen
- Pledio, on 07/29/2008, -1/+3Though, to be fair, Digg is much more pretty, and new content is much easier accessible than reddit.
- serif69, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2People trying to force a meme on digg since 4chan is down.
http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Two_of_my_fri ... - Burn, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2In which market do they have a monopoly exactly? None. The have a large share of some markets (Portable MP3 players for example), but no monopolies.
I'm pretty sure using all their own everything wont make them a monopoly, they have too many successful competitors. - griz, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Quick, someone feed the troll another Dell.
- MacParrot, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Really? Apple posting on digg to see which designs the diggers like best?
First they'd have to weed out the fanboys that love anything Apple regardless of how well it works. My rants about MobileMe have been dugg down to oblivion probably by these very same people that cheered when I said anything less than positive about MS.
Then they'd have to weed out the Apple haters for the exact same reason. It wouldn't matter how well something worked by Apple, it's all crap according to them.
Doesn't leave that many to get an honest opinion from. - KungFuJ35u5, on 07/29/2008, -2/+4I think Apple circulates these rumors themselves, most of them are probably ideas pitched in R&D and they frequent digg and the likes to see how popular the ideas are.
- colto, on 07/29/2008, -1/+3I just rubbed my fingers across my iPod Touch and it is pretty damn slick. I doubt the sliding would be any problem.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2I think the majority of us Apple users are sick of this.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Once again, I'll wait for the Jobsnote.
- redwallhp, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Dugg because "Apple" is in the title...
- rebotfc, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2They might be dropping the intel mobo chipset, not the intel CPU.
- griz, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Care to explain why you feel that way?
- netstorm, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1hmmm wow a diff color
http://www.girlgames1.com - crashlock, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1
If they put like an iPod touch as your trackpad. I'll be thinking that Jonathan Ives is a fan of the Optimus keyboard.. :) - inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I have a MacBook Air and I don't really see this issue. This was true a few years ago in the PowerBook and MacBook Pro shells but they seemed to have solved this problem. I can get on my neighbor's WiFi if I want, two apartment buildings down.
- Ellipsys, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Proprietary chipsets, again? I hope they're similar "enough" to standard Intel platforms and not completely locked down. One of the allures of this generation of Mac is that I can install whatever the hell I want on it with regards to operating system, and be able to have the chipset supported in Windows and Linux. Thank god they're not changing the processor, but I don't want to have to worry about a chipset that will be lacking drivers in other operating systems because Apple decided they wanted to be special again and divorce themselves from conventional motherboards. I planned to purchased a MacBook Pro at the next big redesign, but if this is going to be an issue, I'll have to rethink my purchase.
- Qrange, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1people like you ruin things.
- Burn, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Titanium Alloy, actually.
- punkcat, on 07/29/2008, -1/+2it wasn't worded clearly.
- yabos, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Well rumors of Snow Leopard being Intel only will kill off support for PPC and within 5 years or so Apple will be dropping support for the older Intel Macs. So not initially but eventually if they are using their own chipset this would hopefully stop the clones.
- jjustin01, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Maybe Digg should just merge with Apple Insider. Seems to be all that is on here anymore. Don't get me wrong. I love my iPhone now that I have one, but I would like to read about other things. Recently, Digg has turned in to Apple and Ubuntu Spam.
- yabos, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1If this turns out to be true it might squash the clones pretty fast. Maybe that's why Apple isn't too concerned about people using OS X on their generic PCs because future versions will require an Apple designed chipset and anything else would require emulation or else be impossible to run.
- Burn, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Except that Mac OS will continue to work on older Macs without said chipset and therefore also non-Macs.
