- iNunchuk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32Better Break out the Kleenex.
It doesn't have it - or the Mac Media has signed some kind of non-disclosure agreement not to talk about it. - FyreFiend, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30Does it still ***** .DS_Store all over the place?

- chrisgeleven, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Can't wait for Leopard. There are several features that I can make immediate use of right now.
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 10/10/2007, -7/+27I didn't mind the old Finder...but the newest features are a great improvement

Look at the "File" menu and the "Go" menu. See all those symbols along the right-hand side of the menu? Those are keyboard shortcuts. Every command is in the menu, and every menu item has a keyboard shortcut. And if you don't like the keyboard shortcut (in any application), you can change it via the System Preferences.
By the way, virtually all of these Finder keyboard shortcuts date back to System 7.0 from 1991. - DiscoLando, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15"Windows 95/98/Me promised to deliver preemptive multitasking, but the instability of the underlying system similarly meant that a crashing application would frequently take down the entire Windows session with an "illegal operation" error."
Is it just me, or was the above sentence completely pointless? Not that it wasn't true... - regexp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12If I can restore my MacBook Pro from sleep and not have the finder sit there locked up for 10 minutes because it can no longer "see" a fileshare that I had mapped prior to putting it into sleep mode I will give Steve Jobs my first born.
I mean seriously - its 2007 right? Why did it take this long for a multi-threaded finder? - awhiteflame, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11MacFUSE, anyone?
I use sshfs all the time. Works great. - awhiteflame, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Don't worry, it is. There is absolutely no delay in Leopard for Spotlight. I was absolutely astounded. Complete results as I typed each letter with no delay.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Heck, there is an NDA on the developer builds, but that doesn't stop many of the devs from posting screenshots or even disk images of it on the net: that's how we know about the new background, for instance. If it were there, we'd have heard about it. Am I the only person who doesn't care about a tabbed Finder? I've never needed a tabbed file browser on any of the three OSes. If you really need one, use PathFinder. I still prefer the finder. Simple, elegant, and integrated: that's what I want my Finder to be be. Oh, and free with the OS.
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10They finally fixed it. It's a disgrace it took them so long to fix such a basic feature. I was seriously tempted to install Linux on my MacBook after one too many network share beachballs.
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yeah I love tabs...from Firefox to Eclipse, they make things so much better. But for a file browser, I just don't think it'd work the same.
- planksconstant, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10it actually works better than you'd think. i was surprised.
- PaulDrake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9...and a Real Doll rocks your boat too, huh?
- powrypop, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12i don't mind the current finder that much but some of these improvements should be good.
coverflow is something that i can't imagine ever using though. - PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Nice. Learned something new!
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Don't change what isn't broken.
- moisie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Where free is $35
- d5o3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7If only Microsoft would make Windows Explorer for the Mac. All I want is a file tree and to be able to cut and paste. Most of the finder improvements in Leopard seem pretty useless to me. A file tree, that's all I really want.
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Well, you can minimize the search categories in the side column to get them out of the way, then just use the normal list and icon views (which are the same as in Tiger), avoiding the new Coverflow view (which isn't much use, in my opinion, with the obvious exception of photo collections). Basically, if you tweak it just a little you'll end up with something similar to the Tiger Finder, but faster (and with no problems browsing network shares, which bugged me about the old one).
- ismith, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I agree– Spotlight actually runs pretty well for me in Tiger but it could definitely see some improvement, I'm glad to hear there is some (thx awhiteflame)
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8What do Leopard users have to say of the speed of Spotlight? In Tiger it's just too slow to be considered really usable - Quicksilver has saved me! But Spotlight really does have its merits, and hope it's at least 5x faster in Leopard.
- superspud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6If you command-click your desktop, and click View Options, there is a tick box for viewing icon previews
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm talking about the icon.
- ckSubs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5When the hell is Leopard coming out? Isn't it sometime in October? Is this another one of those "Apple announces it and then you can buy it the next day" type things?
And.... any word on the copy protection? :) - inkswamp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5If you're new to Macs, try out the apple+up-arrow and apple+down-arrow keys for folder navigation. You can go up or down the folder hierarchy using that and it's very convenient. It actually makes a lot of sense because once you're in a folder's contents, you can use the arrows keys without the apple key to move around through files in any view.
- FyreFiend, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Only for networked drives. I'd like it to stop dumping them on FAT formatted drives (USB sticks, SD cards, etc).
- theuniversal, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6"Brushed metal takes up way too much space."
I don't get it, it's the texture of the window, right? Whether it's brushed metal or aluminum or whatever, how does one texture take up more space than another? Or is there something that I'm not getting? This is a sincere question. - mmcwhorter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9When will I be able to mount SSH volumes from finder? I miss Nautilus and Gnome-VFS... I am serious.
- GerbilOfCarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4breadcrumbs and the ability to mount volumes over ssh
- hisXenocide, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6everyones dissin on the old brushed metal but imho i think it looks great. maybe just because i'm a fairly new user. the new sidebar will be a nice addition though.
on a side note does anyone use the button on the upper right? why would you ever want to hide the buttons - Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, but it should provide the ability out of the box.
Everyone kicks up a stink about Microsoft ***** crap all over their own OS without the users permission, but Apple ***** all over OTHER operating systems. That's just not on. - SuperSunny, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Probably none, it's Apple :D
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Great saying.
- wilhoitm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5It is still true now even with Vista, except now it is the Red Screen of Death!
- benjony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Cover flow for previewing web pages is great especially for designing. I'll be able to preview my comps and pages easily.
- makis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5i want cut & paste of files....
can we please have it ... it's 2007 - stuartjmoore, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7cmd-O
- inkswamp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Search Apple's support site. There's a way to turn that off.
- majormunky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4One would have to pry column view from my dead hands to get me to stop using it..
- kyc050564, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Brushed metal windows have a right and left edge and thick dividers which just makes it look clunky. Just look at iTunes 4.x vs the one we have now.
- mfearby, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Way to go Apple. Make something more complicated than it needs to be. How about "Enter"? How elegant and simple could that be? But no, the Enter key puts you in rename mode. That has to be one of the dumbest things about any GUI I have yet seen.
There are too many things with the Mac that require more clicking or more key presses than good, old, Windows :-) Like, why can't the Apple key, if pressed by itself, open the Apple menu? Instead, I think it's Ctrl-F2 or something really and absolutely stupid! And take your typical text-area field, Home and End won't move the cursor to the beginning and end of the line, you have to press Ctrl-Home and Ctrl-End! Aaaaaargh! Try editing HTML or anything other text with a keyboard input system as crap as that!
Digg me down, fanboys! - manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You can turn on the path bar. There's an option called "Show Path Bar". It's been there since 9A499.
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0707leopard9a499.h ... - specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Offtopic but this brought me memories of my old Powerbook with System 7. Hell, that computer was much cooler than current macs :D .
- sruffelman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The instant "search" feature Vista has was conceptually stolen from Tiger which is what is already out. Time Machine is a completely new way to view and interact with data that you have backed up. Nothing in Leopard is all that revolutionary, but much of it is significantly evolutionary.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6What are you talking about?
- d5o3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I want a file tree so that I can see the contents of a selected folder on the right and nested folders on the left. I want to be able to cut and paste using the keyboard (command+x, command+v) so that I don't need to drag and drop between multiple finder windows.
