- ilkeryoldas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33It looks really cool.. though I don't think I would use it on my blog even if I had one
- subxero37, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3276 diggs on a WordPress-based site and it isn't dead? Nicely done.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23You can still see them if you use windows!
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17If you're referring to the operating system which was the inspiration for this theme, then I figure I should throw in the obligatory "well actually..." comment and point out that this is MacOS, not Mac OS X. The two are entirely different beasts which do not share a common lineage.
- Zthulu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14It needs the Chicago font.
- npsken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Wordpress isn't the problem; it is actually very lightweight. The problem is ***** web servers that people get for $1-$2 / month.
- americajones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13It does need the Chicago font.
This was before "MacOS," this is "System 6." At the time many people weren't sure whether Macintosh was a company or a product, or quite where Apple fit in, since many people weren't sure whether Apple was a company or a product.
Does anybody remember what Macinosh was like before MultiFinder?
Or when clicking the mouse meant the whole operating system came to a halt until the mousebutton was released? - ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I still remember those annoying "help bubbles" from OS 6. Good times...
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9This is back in the day when you had that or a command line...
Windows was nonexistent! - Anarkast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5huh?!?
- sudowrestler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You sure know how to admit a mistake gracefully.
- justinjstark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Cool. But it flickers when I scroll because the dummies used a 2x2 pixel tiled background image.
- wilhoitm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+51 bit color means only 2 colors Black & White. 1 bit can have two values 0 & 1 representing 0=White & 1=Black. Most systems today are 24 bit color or 16.8 million colors ( Actually 2^24 or 16,777,216 colors ).
- speakerboxx16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4hey i cant minimize the window like a retro mac........arrggghhh the days of the the bar window
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Where do I sign up?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No.
- inlove, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wow, that's some GUI.
- bbelau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Oh awesome, it even has Moof the Dogcow!! Yes, besides the much-loved Multifinder, does anybody else remember Minifinder? God, if an OS could launch that quick in 2007!
- Weebs43, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Am I the only one go got dizzy/burning eyes and a little bit uneasy in the stomach though (Being completely serious)? Either way, very cool. Kind of makes me want to go out and run Mac OS 6 on vMac or something.
- wilhoitm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It is amazing what they were able to accomplish back then over 20 years ago! Can you imagine iMovie in only 2 colors, I think it would be kind of cool. ;-)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's why I bought my 4G iPod, and why I refuse to upgrade.
- ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Woops, your right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_7
Way to long ago for me to remember. - meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I can't figure out if your comment spam is automated somehow or do you actually go to every front page story and annoy us?
Either way, you're a tit. - KAZVorpal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Now someone needs to make a PC DOS 1.0 theme...
- kuyman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Epileptic Seizure Time!
- exipolar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The smooth font kinda makes my mind melt
- jttin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3System 7, Alright?
- donnyburnside, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I beg to differ.
- andreusboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This gives me a headache...
- PointAndClick, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Just got my MBP (which btw, OMG) and I really don't miss those. I don't need a popup ever time I connect to my wireless. I'm sitting at my desk, I EXPECT it to connect.
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hehehe Pretty cool IMO.
- sparklicious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1very nicely done
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2somewhere in india or indonesia.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Mac Classic has a built-in hidden ROM-disk that contains a barebones copy of System 6. It would boot in 4 seconds! (literally, without exaggeration)
You can activate by holding command-option-O-X - Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hey... I like *****; I hate spammers!
- akkdio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1me like
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And for those who don't know, HyperCard inspired (in part) Tim Berners Lee to create the World-Wide Web on his NeXT computer. For the longest time in the 90's, most browsers including Netscape had their "pointing finger" cursor ripped right off HyperCard.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Or when clicking the mouse meant the whole operating system came to a halt until the mousebutton was released?"
Well not everything stopped, the menubar clock continued to work ;) - TRENT310, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The closest to anything multimedia back then was HyperCard. It would be kinda cool, but slow. Even when working with 80x86 video. Black isn't a colour (or color), it's more like a lack of it.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My first Mac was a Mac Plus running System 6.04. Used it for 6 years. What a beast
- bjeanes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If i understood his comment the way he intended it, i think he was questioning the gloriousness of 1-bit, not whether or not the two-coloured theme was classified as 1-bit.
And no, it is very much NOT glorious. /shudder - jttin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Photoshop 1 and 2 runs on a monochrome SE or Classic.
However Quicktime don't run on any 68000 Macs. - DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It flickers on cheap LCDs (and that includes mine) that have a slow response time. It wouldn't flicker while scrolling on a CRT, and presumably on a fast-response LCD.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The first version of Photoshop I used was version 2, on a Mac Classic. Grayscale and color images appeared as a dithering pattern on the screen, but I had fun creating arsty stuff applying the twirl and other filters on purely B&W stuff. Photoshop also had one of the best Floyd-Something dithering (it wasn't live though) so I used it a lot to convert Grayscale/Color images to something almost watchable.
Quicktime did run on the B&W Mac Classic II, but yeah it wasn't a 68000. - ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist, but you can use the vMac emulator, which makes System 6 way too fast to use, unless you speed it down.
- unleashedlive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2huh? not here....
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Actually Windows did exist...it just wasn't very good as compared to the classic Mac OS. Windows 95 was the first usable version in my opinion.
- jttin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1If you mean old OSX I will think of NeXTStep and Rhapsody OS...
- bagofice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0how do you use his theme??
- cbscsr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0yes system 7 is OK.
