- tonychenyj, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5hmm, that is less than what i expected.
- Lightstab, on 05/15/2009, -0/+4This is just mindless speculation, a story that has been repeated from one guy with a blog, who made a guesstimate, but even if it's remotely true, they make it sound like 20 to 45 million is a bad thing.
- johnalan, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3What an excellent business model.
- BlueDevil2k, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2$20Million is a rounding error to a company like Apple. They make $34B a year, so the AppStore is increasing their revenue by 0.05% and you think they're happy about that? They've spent far more making the store and supporting it than they are getting from revenue from the apps.
The real question is how many more iPhones they've sold because people are attracted to the AppStore. That's where Apple really makes their money. - nipterink, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2on the flip side, developers around the world have made 46-105M by creating apps for the app store.
- jelloatlunch09, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2To think that most apps are 99cents, it's amazing to see what kind of profit they've seen...
- JshMRsn, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1As others have said, this report is total bogus.
It's just based on some hearsay survey. - mynameisdi, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1That is A LOT less than I expected. We were doing some analysis regarding this, knowing that X reviews averages at Y in sales (from 5 different apps), and from that math, we've calculated that the top apps alone should've made over $10 mil in sales. Meaning $3 mil to Apple.
Hmmmmm - Lightstab, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1No, the guy that made this survey and guesstimated the result said that. Apple doesn't comment on things like this, unless they decide to reveal specific numbers in their quarterly financial.
- JshMRsn, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1Several app developers, such as Firemint, have released financial records showing >$400k income. I'm sure by now they are approaching a 1M. I'm pretty sure I can count off at least 20 apps of similar status to Firemint.
I'm sure Pocket God, Need For Speed, Resident Evil, Terminator, Oregon Trail, Fieldrunners, Topple, Rollando, Star Trek, etc. etc. etc. are all making >$500k
That's just the current top games. - alfie64, on 05/15/2009, -0/+0Better than no money at all if apple had opened up the iphone to a traditional free market then they would have no profit and the iphone experience wouldn't be as good for the consumer or the developer. You can't deny the app store hasn't been a success with such high downloads, a number of copy cat stores and only a few complains with the authorization process.
- piratearggghhh, on 05/15/2009, -2/+1Apple claims it wasn't looking to make a ton of dough...riiiight.
- alanocu, on 05/14/2009, -4/+1Wow, are there any Apple fanboys out there that want to bemoan capitalism? Seriously, buying shares in Apple and then wailing about corporate America doesn't count.
