- MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21I threw out my computer when I bought an iPhone.
- whoisvaibhav, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11so what if my wife has an iPhone too?
- serpicolugnut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Anger management dude, anger management. "Something that works and doesn't cost hundreds of pounds"? OK, can you recommend something that does everything the iPhone does and doesn't cost "hundreds of pounds"? From what I've looked at, the N95 comes closest, but it is actually more expensive (nearly twice the price of the iPhone), has a ***** interface, and doesn't feature a touch screen.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5MonarchWastxD is just anothe diggtard that feels that everyone should make the same choices that he does regarding technology. Maybe he'll feel different once he makes it into High School.
- RetroRufio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Angry little britt isn't he?
- SodaForJones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4someone lost an auction on Ebay...
- VulnoX, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Oh come on, why does this make front page. If this does than my old Motorola Q's ability to do all this with the app already built into the phone, no hacking or adding anything required, should make front page too. As should almost every other touch screen smartphone with bluetooth that can do this stuff.
The Q had a seperate button layout depending on what you wanted to do, such as media player, general computer, word processor, and more. The phone was also released well over a year before the iPhone.
My current PPC-6800 can do all the same stuff, lets make a front page story about that! Also about its faster web connection, more audio and video format support, and just about everything else it can do that the iPhone can't.
God just let it die already. The iPhone is good looking, but its nothing special and is just an over-hyped iPod. - serpicolugnut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The iPhone already has a Terminal (SSH) client and the article details VNSea, a VNC client, which is essentially RDP for non Windows boxes.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5You mis-spelled britt. I just know there's an "sh" there somewhere.
- alefox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Have you tried to use it
I'm using an Ipod touch right now to write this comment, trust me, it just takes a little time to get used to - lkv87, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'd like this so much more if it was its own app and worked directly over wifi (I'd feel a lot safer too)
Still pretty neat though. - SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, he made his point, but his point is wrong. If he and MacParrot would have RT(entire)FA, you two would have known they talked about more than remote control iTunes: "Aside from iTunes remote control capabilities (which are currently limited to play/pause, track seeking, and volume adjustments), the open source application Telekinesis can launch applications and files or serve them up to your iPhone—once again, though Safari."
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2SPECOPS, you're right. I did just skim through it. Not having an iPhone means I'm not nearly as interested in added features to it. However, considering the amount of blind hatred of most things Apple in some of these posts, I'll digg up almost anyone who makes a valid point without screaming "DIE APPLE DIE!"
- nephari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Have you ever even used one? Or do you just hate them because of all of the hype?
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"You could spend hundreds of dollars on a multimedia remote with a touchscreen interface, glorious album art, and all of the fixings, but if you've already got an iPhone, you really don't need to."
... Because you already have. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2While it is relevent to mention other phones with this same ability (or better), no where in the article does it say that the iPhone does this exclusively (or better) than any competing product. This is about adding functionality to a device that didn't have it before. Being so angry about tech you don't use or care for is not healthy.
- beerbarron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Oooh terminal service client, that would be hot!! especially now that iPhone will shortly be able to do video out. So iPhone + terminal services + Big screen tv = very cheap pc....
- pruppert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1These are awesome. Perfect companion to the wireless Airtunes on Airport Express.
- ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That you can control iTunes with a Nintendo DS. I think similar functionality is relevant to the discussion for those who don't know about it.
- willizm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Would really like to see an RDP/Terminal Service Client on the Iphone like what the treo had.
- penguincentral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How interesting...
Hey, the only reason that this is popular is because it's the iPhone. If it was some other crappy phone, then this wouldn't have even made the front page. - notjamt9000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2For amarok you could use the "Web Control" script, works ok on the Nokia N800 so I imagine it would on an iPhone, although I don't know about the screen size. Of course the N800 has VNC too so I can also use that.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ucg1 made his point. That there are other devices out there that do the same thing. He did it without resorting to a screaming "I HATE iPHONES JUST BECAUSE I DON'T USE ONE!!!!" so I dugg him up.
- akf2000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I tried the demo of that a while ago on a Sony Eriscsson, nice enough but pricey and limited to Bluetooth range, much prefer a web server app.
- jdubsss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wonder if these people bashing the iPhone's touchscreen have much experience with other touch screen products. Personally, I have digital touch screen pads all throughout my home, my navigation system in my car is touch screen, and I have remote controls that are touch screen. The iPhone is by FAR the best touch screen I have ever used, and the keyboard is actually quite simple once you've played around with it for a week.
- tylas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yes, yes it can.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Now if only I could control my AppleTV from my iPhone...
- 80hd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think a cool iPhone/Touch feature would be to pick up on shared libraries while your on your home network and let you swap out music automagically. Not that it'd be fun to pick music by hand but if you use smart playlists this could be really cool since new tunes would load up just by coming home.
- gbeirne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i had to sell mine :(
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Am I missing something?
http://www.ipresents.co.uk/a/i/stuff/apple-remote.jpg
Oh, yeah- you got a PC. - whoisvaibhav, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2ooh... it said computer... not TV.... phew..
- pezholio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I've been able to do that for ages on my non-iphone. Nice little app called Salling Clicker that connects via Bluetooth. Combined with a radio transmitter I've got access to my iTunes library all over the house. Go me!
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Of course we probably won't see Microsoft developing RDP for the iphone any time soon, there are other RDP clones out there for the Mac, that may work on the iphone with minor tweaking. Although from my experience, the just released version of the RDP client is very fast, I'll settle for any of the clones being tweaked over VNSea (for RDP sessions---of course VNSea will be great for non MS clients once it's out of Alpha, but right now its very unstable (for me)).
- serpicolugnut, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Those who bash the iPhone have never basked in its presence, and are just lashing out because they are jealous.
- ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I find my Garmin Nuvi's touch screen keyboard WAY more accurate than the iPhone. The iPhone's keyboard is horribly inaccurate to the point where I get frustrated and give up on trying to type anything.
If you need a full week to get used to a keyboard there is something wrong. With the Garmin, I was instantly able to use it without difficulty.
I've never had problems with a touch screen like I did with the iPhone's keyboard.
Other than that I think the iPhone is pretty slick, just not good at all for inputing text. - akf2000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What the ***** is your point?
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1MISLEADING. It only lets you control very specific actions remotely.
Not to be "that guy," but WindowsCE had Terminal Services since v 3.0, and WM5 has VNC apps for total PC control. - bloominoctober, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Why not just use RDM+ to remotely control your computer?
http://www.rdmplus.com - danielwsmithee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Just install a VNC server on your Windows box and VNSea will work cross platform.
- sam02452, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0I would try pc2me which is free or files2phone which is cheap. Both have more capabilities and MUCH more accessibility.

http://www.myf2p.com/ - akf2000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's "gorgeous" album art, *****, GORGEOUS. YOU GOT THAT?
Signed, Apple Consolidated Voice Police. - dewar2002, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0remote buddy does all of this very well, but you have to pay for it after 30 days. waiting for serialz.to to catch up to recent release.
http://www.iospirit.com/remotebuddy/ - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2And here comes all of the "my Nokia, or Blackberry, or Samsung can do that already" comments.
I find it funny how there were no "My Nokia is better than the Blackberry" remarks/articles before the iPhone was announced. So now we not only have arguments about which is better, the Wii, PS3, XBox, Sega Genisis, we also have the OS wars, and now Phone battles.
Grow up Digg. - Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1right, jealous, that must be it.
- stratdog25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah... i remember being able to do this 2 years ago on my Treo650... oh yeah it has a great nintendo emulator on it. can the iphone get 33 lives on contra?
- hugehead83, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Not to bash the iPhone, but PPC/smartphone users have been able to do this for over 2 years (see logmein.com). They can also watch their TV tuners (and record video from their phones) all for free. iPhone people need to get over the hype.
Cheers VolnoX. - acnx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0 you can full remote control your pc wuth Symbian phones too and a small app installed :
http://axtmag.com/2007/09/19/use-your-phone-to-remote-control-your-pc/ - ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Title is misleading, should read "remote control itunes." And there are many other devices that have compatible apps to do this.
For example, there is iTunes remote web app that's designed specifically for Opera on the Nintendo DS. I believe this is it: http://my.opera.com/StrawHousePig/blog/index.dml/tag/Nintendo%20DS - trenchfever, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2The dinosaurs could do all these and more with bemused, webinterfaces, bluetooth and nokias.
- ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4I've used one and personally think the touch screen keyboard blows
