- dpcdomino, on 02/17/2008, -10/+61great...now I am going to get snooty looks when I order out loud.
I swear...one day I am going into Starbucks (after I lift my personal ban on them) with a Sony Walkman, 1999 Motorola Startec, Lee jeans, and IBM baseball hat and ask for a real ***** MEDIUM black coffee.
All this anti-establishment establishment is driving me nuts. It all reeks of Neuvo Pussy Punk Rocker. Rebals with manicures and Apple products.
Rant over. Need coffee. - mikephimikephi, on 02/17/2008, -8/+47Why does the iPod Touch have an AT&T logo on the top?
- imatt, on 02/17/2008, -3/+26It's only a mockup, and it's for the iPhone as well
- wm666, on 02/17/2008, -8/+30That's why I said Engadget is always the source of Digg.com This story has been talked about for a long time ago.
- dcd722, on 02/17/2008, -6/+24You mean I finally don't have to talk to people?
I'm making a note here HUGE success.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. - LaughingMan11, on 02/17/2008, -2/+14So, you want to be anti-anti-establishment?
- Mrdudeperson, on 02/17/2008, -4/+15I now suddenly want an ipod touch/iphone. But then again, to get a ipod touch/iphone i would have to go to the store and that could result in questionable human interaction.
- diieson, on 02/17/2008, -1/+12You could order it from the Apple website and activate it using iTunes.
- kidlinux, on 02/17/2008, -2/+11I can imagine how "tall cappuccino" could result in questionable human interaction.
- iMatt711, on 02/17/2008, -0/+8This was a mockup created months ago...
- dazparkour, on 02/17/2008, -1/+8If it was linked to a starbucks store credit card, they could charge them that way, solving the "who pays" diliema.
As for queing, Quickorders get added to the que like everyone elses. They don't magically go to the front of the que. - tidu, on 02/17/2008, -2/+8right click, download the jpg
- mateusap, on 02/17/2008, -0/+6parties? wait what?
- quazywabbit, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4I hate starbucks but will sometimes meet people there and I always order a medium, there are three sizes small, medium, and large. , but each time I am always out of place and well I enjoy it that way.
- Akram, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4while i'd LOVE to see this implement, unfortunately its hard to see it get the green light. why? Howard Schultz is a firm believer in the Starbucks experience and the romance of coffee, which is why they won't be launching the Starbucks Vending machines or replacing Baristas with machines. Starbucks was built on a foundation of knowledge and passion a lot like Apple stores.
That being said, if this was launched i'd be first in line with my iPhone to try it out. - CMiYC, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4Why do Mock-Ups make it to the front page of Digg?
- samanathon, on 02/17/2008, -0/+4Here's the original: http://www.genoco.com/link/interactive_quickOrder. ...
- spike22, on 02/17/2008, -1/+5As others have said, this is over a month old now
- ianmurrays, on 02/17/2008, -1/+4nowhere, it's a mockup
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3Your pathetic joke doesn't even work you *****.
- superspud, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3Huh?
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3They hate you. You're such a turd.
- egrefen, on 02/17/2008, -1/+4It's getting dugg down because, if you took the time to look at the mock-up, you'd see that you need to be in the starbucks itself to place the order by scanning the semacode (as pointed out by vincimus, below).
- vincimus, on 02/17/2008, -1/+4it uses semacode.
pretty cool if you ask me. - DannyDriffs, on 08/25/2008, -1/+4Simpsons did it.
- lotticasio, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3Finally, a way for me to avoid human interactions with females in ssssstarbucks, virginity will forever be mine!
- drgruney, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2I miss my startec soo much.
That was seriously the best phone I've ever owned... thing was a tank... battery went a week without needing a charge. My only complaint is no SMS. I could receive... but not send. Which was just silly. - anteyekon4myst, on 02/17/2008, -3/+5Wouldnt you're fingers get too jittery to use the touchpad after all that coffee?
- bradkovach, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Once you go black...
- fayok, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2This wasn't cool when i saw it a few months ago and nothing has changed. Plus I'm sorry to break it to all of you but ordering a drink this way would probably be a lot more time consuming than just ***** saying it.
- 80hd, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2I really enjoy the 'fritalian' commercial.
it's as if they are calling their customers dumb.
Might as well have some guy shouting "ummm ya I'd like a big dumb coffee, extra retarded how I like it" - Brockmann, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1I'm not saying it's a good idea, but I think you may have missed the point of the concept. The customer would send the order information over the counter, remotely. Presumably via Wi-Fi. Yeah, it still has no advantage over face to face ordering. This is just a half baked idea given the full shiny mock-up treatment by an excited graphic designer.
- BryanJK, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1you go deaf
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1So why say it again you cretin? To prove how much of turd you are?
- chkdg8, on 02/17/2008, -1/+2Wow! Anti-social at its best. We're going to have lazy ass zombie drones walking the streets.
- Zippo, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1No, it's done over WiFi :P
- jeremynicolas, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1Or, ur, antidisestablishmentarian?
- meebio, on 02/17/2008, -1/+2Dumbest idea ever. What, you can't bother yourself to communicate with the human 10 feet away from you behind the counter? Sarah Conner was right, we're all doomed.
- deadnoob, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1this really is so dumb, but so awesome at the same time.
- Sconathon, on 02/17/2008, -1/+2This ***** is stupid. I am a Starbucks Barista and if someone brought up their iPod Touch and tried to order, it would not only piss me off with its pretentiousness, but it would slow things down. Even if the iPod generated a barcode to scan, it still would not help, since the employee would then have to convert what popped up on the monitor to a cup for a drink to be made. Here's how it works at Starbucks. At quiet times a customer comes up to the register and orders a drink, which the employee right down in an easy to read and write code. Usually they are done writing the cup as soon as the customer is finished speaking. If you had to lean over a counter and stare at an iPod screen and convert its strange format to the cup format it would take a little longer. During busy commuting times etc. there will be a long line in which one employee will walk down and right down the drinks for and bring them to the barista, so that your drink will be done as fast as possible. If they had to lean over and squint at everybody's iPod it would slow things down. I was a little frustrated while writing this so I'm not sure if it makes sense. I hope you get the point though.
- michaelchyles, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1I agree.. his design is great.. and is clearly designed to be used INSIDE starbucks. Just like a person in line... only flash your semacode at a designated scanner.
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Burried for being a retarded story. For mentioning ipod AND starbucks in same article!
- neodorian, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1GlaDOS
- SuppaK, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1Its called a m-o-c-k u-p.
Calm down. - SuppaK, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1Alot of these things are always designed with iPhone in mind, and this story is pretty old, but still it would be cool to see it happen. Just kinda a taste of what they can do in the future.
But still, theres alot of kinks they probably have to work out. - sixlaneve, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1I don't know if this is sad or good... starbucks staff are usually considered as inferior slaves by clients and management, perhaps they will be happy by not to have to smile to every "Give me a capuccino now"
- inactive, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1They hate you. Tool. Stop bothering them you wanker.
- neodorian, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Still no word on Gentleman's Lattes?
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+2People still drink their overpriced crappy drinks?
