- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quicktime blows. It always makes Firefox crash. I'm not sure what is to blame, but until it's fixed, I'm all about whatever alternative there is.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quicktime has always been good software, or rather a good format.
The reasons it was scorned have more to do with Apple's marketing,
and annoyances or limitations in the interface, than with the
actual technology behind using quicktime video. - dfu23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they made some good improvements because playback of SYSTM episode 2 (H264 version) sucked on my XP machine but played fine on my eMac.
- .dotfortune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll get it sometime depending on comments. Cant right now anyway. (Downloading TWIT Episode 12)
- jturner12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just installed it but then i heard about firefox crashing so i tried to uninstalled it. But when I try to uninstall it i get error 1402 saying it could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareclassesQuickTime.QuickTimeCLSID
- xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for letting us know, updating now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0QT7P1 was awesome. Hopefully this will be even better.
- tayq1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think quicktime makes my firfox crash as well?
- wheremyarm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know what still plays back H264 files better on a PC, and has full-screen mode, not too mention a whole boat of things Quicktime doesn't? VLC.
- TGDuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With Preview 1, I had the same problem that Robert Heron had on Box 4.0 where it would always enter into some annoying editting mode. This is no longer true for me with Preview 2. However, the browser MIME settings are still screwed up (at least with Firefox) with some embeded content not working properly such as ytmnd.com.
- Tullamore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0QuickTime is my prefered media player. Didn't know that was what was making firefox crash though. Oh well I can put up with that, it only crashes on close.
- Leer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its is suprisingly way better then public preview 1, I love it.
- jzahra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0:Blink: I didn't even know people were having problems with QT7. I've had it since about a week after it came out and it's been fine on my system - XP SP2 with Firefox 1.04. I haven't noticed any problems with it. I also prefer this format, though I don't prefer the interface of the player. I like how WMP is integrated with windows, and how you can have a playlist just like any other media player. Why should I have to open every clip I want to play in a separate viewer? When it comes to format and encoding, however, nothing beats Quicktime. Download a new H.264 clip and check it out, if you can get the stability from the release -- you'll be amazed at the quality, lack of artifacts (strange non-updating areas in the video that stick out), and surprising SMALL file sizes. Encoding into this format is also provided by the $20 or so QT Pro.
- Legondaree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea i used that "quicktime alternate" because i hated having to go that that annoying process of downloading quicktime every time i re-setup my system. but to be honest, I've had problems with a few videos using that alternate (actually just yesterday i had problems) so i said forget it and downloaded preview2 this morning cause. i never thought of it as bad as i thought of real player but it was heading there hahaha.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I must say after watching Dido with quicktime 7, apple has really done a awesome job with it...just amazing the clarity and qualty. I will say this...if you want a computer for audio and video apple really has done well...tho i use a windows pc since I tend to play games on it...I like the use of being able to use just about any program out there....Apple is coming up so I'm hoping longhorn will have better audio and video as well :)
- LinkinJunior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had problems viewing h.264 movies from apple's hd gallery after I got the pro version of quicktime, but after updating to "Preview 2" it now works flawlessly.
- mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hopefully this is better than the first public preview, that screwed a bunch of stuff up.
- reisyboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahh well i will see whats it is like. I have only just gone to Quicktime 7 Preview 1 so its all nice and new :)
- test5477, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think its great too, I've never had any problems with it.
- psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only reason I've installed Quicktime 7 is so that I can play H.264 files in Media Player Classic, without having to resort to using VLC player. As soon as Quicktime Alternative gets functional H.264 playback functionality, Quicktime 7 is gone.
- mbabajhwve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just use Quicktime Alternative :)
- pungchow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great! A new version of my favorite nag screen!
- Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know why so many people are complaining about QuickTime, I personally think that it is great!
- saachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was gonna be pissed cos I had just downloaded QT7 like yesterday, but I must have grabbed it at the right time (Quicktime 7.0.2 is Preview 2, right?).
- antitruth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0GAAAAAAH! It did the same thing with Preview 1! IT ***** CRASHES ON UPDATING ENVIRONMENT STRINGS!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!
- mdramige, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'll stick with Quicktime Alternative 1.50 (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1049831315/1). I'll be damned if I'm installing Apple software. Quicktime used to be scorned! It was right up there with Real Player. Now that Apple has "redeemed" themselves with iPod+iTunes, suddenly they make great software?
