http://www.defectivebydesign.org - monkeymad2, on 11/27/2008, -1/+14That's funny, you say "allows" when you mean "fixes". Silly you.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+10Apple's restrictive policies being relaxed a bit due to complaints and mainstream industry behavior? This is a good indication for all who pine for a freer app store.
- HolyChimp, on 11/27/2008, -0/+6dugg for 'rocket *****'
- Commodus, on 11/27/2008, -0/+6your OS has little to do with it. Mac OS X supports all the content Linux does -- it just also happens to support DRMed content. Specific apps need to support HDCP for this to have even been an issue.
- HappyScrappy, on 11/27/2008, -0/+5All this stuff is determined by the content maker. The studios currently typically allow SD content without HDCP, but no HD content without HDCP.
Why Apple's platform was different I dunno, but now it no longer is, it's the same as everyone else. - MrViklund, on 11/27/2008, -2/+6Inaccurate. It's not defective by design if it's intended to work in a certain way. Only because your car isn't a rocket ***** doesn't mean it's defective. But I do agree. Eliminate DRM.
- BossKey, on 11/27/2008, -1/+5Is this a victory of any kind? I thought the mistake was that SD content was never supposed to be blocked, therefore this was a bug that was fixed. You won't get a victory until HD content plays through without restriction and without downsampling, or at least I thought that's what the real issue was.
- DigitAl56K, on 11/27/2008, -0/+4Didn't Vista already allow SD (or "reduced resolution") output for some types of DRM'd content? I don't think it's necessarily policies being relaxed, but simply brought into line with what their competitors are doing.
- BlindingDawn, on 11/26/2008, -1/+4man.. The flames must have been high as hell for a turnaround like this.
- jermm, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2Is MacBook Late 2008 any better? Though they really should be called AluBooks
- DigitAl56K, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2Decided by the publisher maybe, but not possible without the support of Apple and Microsoft.
- MacParrot, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2If only there was some way for people who aren't morons to turn off the Apple stories on digg
- mawh, on 11/27/2008, -2/+4"allows"?
The only person who "allows" my computer to do anything is me. ***** DRM policies. - cawpin, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3Who the ***** cares about SD content? They need to enable ALL content to be played. If I had one of these machines I'd be suing them for disabling advertised features.
- gnomon, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2I don't think anyone's going to advertise playing HDCP content to a non-HDCP enabled device.
- MrViklund, on 11/27/2008, -2/+3Enjoy the brown! ^^
- HappyScrappy, on 11/27/2008, -0/+1Yes, Apple definitely agreed to the terms when signing the license. I would rather they stood up against it. But I guess they just took the money instead.
- srg13, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1You can use H.264 with Flash just like you can with Quicktime, you know...
- MrViklund, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1Hahah. Great. Rocket *****.... ^^
- zeppo, on 11/27/2008, -2/+2plexapp FTW.
- Dalhectar, on 11/26/2008, -1/+1Unless you work for a big firm like google, I wouldn't expect much.
But the whole SMTP mail client thing sounded hopeful. - TimDigg, on 11/26/2008, -5/+5Mao ZeJobs making his products more accessible?
What's next, Adding music to the ipod via the OS? - mcrbids, on 11/27/2008, -2/+0Number one feature that Quicktime needs....
Support for Linux platform. They'll never do it because Apple needs to be THE alternative O/S. But still, if they did, I'd adopt Quicktime all over FLV. But they don't, and so Adobe gets my money.
We're rolling out a streaming video system to over 100 school districts and district programs over the next year all based on Flash. - mattearle, on 11/27/2008, -6/+2I turned around for one second and Digg has become an Apple Developers Network RSS Feed.
- niradg, on 11/27/2008, -13/+8Wow. That's so nice of Apple to let you use your own stuff- some of it, anyway.
I'm glad I use Ubuntu. - AmericansRevolt, on 11/27/2008, -5/+0threadcrap: apple
- Valyn, on 11/27/2008, -8/+3***** Quicktime.
- kiensoy, on 11/27/2008, -6/+1I hate it when they call them the "unibody MacBooks".
- mynameistux, on 11/27/2008, -10/+3iTunes sucks the penis
- douglasr007, on 11/27/2008, -10/+3Too bad QuickTime still sucks.
- ronnsprocket, on 11/27/2008, -14/+5***** apple.
