- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Thats nice. Except the "think different" campaign is almost a decade old. They havent been about being "different" for a while now and they've been pushing harder in proving how they are the same/better. Windows does this but we do this AND this blah blah blah.
As a mac user i dislike the fact that a small group of elitist punks make the rest of us look like a-holes. We aren't all insecure jerks but I understand how we've earned that moniker. Mac fanatics need to just calm down and enjoy being the underdog because as much as you worship the company, if they had a large marketshare they'd be even worse than MS. - cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why the ***** did this article get buried ?
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree.
For example, Steve Jobs claimed he was guarding a few secret features close to his heart because he didn't want his friends in Redmond to start their photocopiers just yet.
1) There was no way Microsoft could squeeze these secret features into Vista
2) If they were going to include them into "Vienna" (That's what the successor to Vista is currently being called). A few months wouldn't have made any difference. - cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Long Answer ?

..apple sells their computer as being different, to be different, they must have something to compare themselves with and Microsoft windows just happens to be the OS to "be different from" and the only way to "show the difference" is to side by side compare themselves with windows, while at the same time, maintaining that they arent in the same market microsoft being a software company and apple being a hardware company..
if windows crushes on its own weight and another os picks up, they will start comparing themselves to whoever who will be big enough to compare themselves with ..remember, they have to be "different" ..thats how they sell their products - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Short answer: Yes.
- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Not to mention Microsoft's bashing and FUD'ing or its competition. In the case of Linux and Apple, it even uses illegal practices such as exclusionary deals with OEM's.
- PhreeStyle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Apple has *always* been about being different. From day 1 when they flew the pirate flag in 1983 over the building of the new Macintosh group declaring their difference from the rest of Apple. (http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?project=Macintosh&story=Pirate_Flag.txt) - I will agree with you; I don't like fundamentalism of any kind, either for Apple, Christianity or whatever... But it is hard to ignore that Apple is really a much better computing experience and I for one like to share that with the people that I care about. I find that the most interesting bit about the Mac is how quickly novices adapt to and begin to love it, and how their frustrations with technology disappear - and yet it is a very strong 'geek' machine as well. And as a computer security professional - I don't even want to get on the advantages of Mac; just surf the web a while on a PC with IE... It is so frustrating that entire Linux and firefox movements are more that half fueled by individuals who are seeking relief from the "Glory of Microsoft."
Seriously; Microsoft has the engineers and the capability to fix this stuff - but that is not their business model. They are not about the end user, they create software for the benefit of the business that want to foist their advertisements on you to get you to buy, buy, buy... just look at XBOX, product placements within the games?? (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/0508-microsoftacquiresmassive.htm)
Are the games free? Why should I be subject to advertisements then? Microsoft gets money three times, once in the form of cash for the x-box, the game, and the paid advertisement - they are triple dipping. This is just wrong on so many levels it is not funny - this is not about the games, or making the best game system - they are about making money in as many ways as possible and have not ever been about your best interest in anything. They are triple dipping on the x-box, you pay for the x-box, the games, and Microsoft gets paid by the advertisers as well.
Apple like Google is about doing the right thing. Microsoft seems to be all about "the wrong thing"...
and that is my 2 cents.
