- AhrenBa, on 07/19/2008, -4/+123Just a note for users out there. This release is only for Mac....windows users will still have to wait.
- Th3Kyle, on 07/19/2008, -13/+110Well, I guess it's time to go buy a mac and become a real hacker...
- AhrenBa, on 07/19/2008, -3/+62Alright, their download servers are already down.
Here's a couple working mirrors:

http://rapidshare.com/files/130982484/PwnageTool_2 ... - Quickdood, on 07/20/2008, -2/+46Just to warn you all, the installer app is not functional yet. Only cydia.
- petewich, on 07/20/2008, -1/+36Just to compile some links for all 2G Iphone users...
You need the 2.0 Firmware here - http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.in ...
You need the 3.9 and 4.6 bootloader files here - http://www.spaziocellulare.com/ispazio/2008/07/20/ ... and http://www.spaziocellulare.com/ispazio/2008/07/20/ ...
Boot up PwnageTool 2.0 and it should find your 2.0 Firmware in Simple Mode.
Click next and it will try and find the bootloader files. Mine failed, yours might too, so click No when it asks you to search the web for it, and browse to find it instead.
It will compile the new .ipsw for you, restore the phone in Itunes and you're good to go! - fabio1, on 07/20/2008, -0/+27and this is why everyone is excited about: with pwnage 2.0, you can have iphone apps from both apple and installer repos, at the same time.
- innovaciones, on 07/20/2008, -5/+31Instead you post very useless comment.
- LuffyD, on 07/20/2008, -2/+24A direct link to the 2.0 firmware for the old 2G iPhones:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.in ... - yifanlu94, on 07/20/2008, -1/+21I knew it was smart to convert my old PC to a OSX86
- Philbert, on 07/20/2008, -3/+22Good luck with that one.
- cjmart, on 07/20/2008, -0/+18Here is a tutorial for Windows Users: http://sleepers.net/news/2008/07/20/pwnage-option- ...
- inactive, on 07/20/2008, -1/+19What exactly does jailbreaking a phone allow you to do?
I asked this before and all I got was dugg down.
For the "have yet to get an iPhone" crowd. - Quickdood, on 07/20/2008, -0/+17Yeah Cydia is set up to only show 2.0 compatible programs.
- dementedpuppy, on 07/20/2008, -0/+15Jailbreaking allows you to run unsigned code on the iPhone, and gives you complete read/write access. That (as long as the apps are safe) allows for better apps because they do not fall under the constraints of Apple (they won't let you run apps in the back ground). Like on my old jailbroken phone, I had a last.fm app that was better than the one just released. I had scrobbling and everything else. In the new one you can't scrobble because that would mean the app would have to run in the background.
- JoaoPe, on 07/20/2008, -1/+16You seem a very nice person. That's a pleasure to have you here sir.
- cjmart, on 07/20/2008, -4/+19Tutorial for Windos users: http://sleepers.net/news/2008/07/20/pwnage-option- ...
- phiebs, on 07/20/2008, -0/+143.9:

4.6:

You need both, click NO to the 1st prompt of searching and YES to the 2nd prompt of browsing. - android6011, on 07/19/2008, -2/+14another mirror just incase: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/11/876372/Pwna ...
- yifanlu94, on 07/20/2008, -2/+14But current repo apps (like iphone video recorder, snes4iphone, etc) can't run on 2.0 pwned until the code is edited by their creater, right?
- fabio1, on 07/20/2008, -3/+13or if you can´t wait, you can try to install a "alternative" version of mac osx on your intel pc...try searching for leo4all, hackintosh, etc.
- BTallack, on 07/20/2008, -0/+10To what end? They're not yet unlockable, only jailbroken.
- championchap, on 07/20/2008, -0/+10thanks, i was honestly very curious about the spec of your new laptop!
Can't believe you actually opted to go for the air though.. and after all that "should i? shouldnt i?"
Have to let me know how its working out for you in a couple weeks! - neoneddy, on 07/20/2008, -1/+10Am I the only one who's phone is not activating?
EDIT - I had to do advanced mode, and make sure activate was checked.. looking good! - inactive, on 07/20/2008, -2/+11Pretty much everybody with an iPhone.
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/20/2008, -0/+9If you get Error 1600 from iTunes (or if you see in your log a failure to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw), try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.
Worked for me. - Farik, on 07/20/2008, -0/+9Correct.
- amenic, on 07/20/2008, -2/+10Man by the looks of those comments there are A LOT of deep thinkers and intellectuals using the iphones to be sure.
- Me1000, on 07/20/2008, -0/+8Pretty much everybody on Digg with an iPhone.
There fixed that for you. - iMags, on 07/20/2008, -0/+8Using a 3G iPhone; whenever I used the Expert mode, to remove the pineapple-logo and steve-recovery, I could not get any signal from my carrier after restoring. But I got plenty of signals using the simple mode (but then with the ugly pineapple-logo)..
If someone else has trouble with their 3G iPhone after using the expert mode (and if the ugly pineapple-boot-logo is the only reason you are using the expert mode) download this modified version (changed the pineapple-logo and steve-recovery with the originals from apple) and use the simple mode instead to get the apple logo.
http://www.filedropper.com/pwnagetool - PurpleSfinx, on 07/20/2008, -0/+8And you follow with another.
- EvilCowSan, on 07/20/2008, -0/+8You are a glorious human being
- sirmasterboy, on 07/20/2008, -1/+9This is easier. Just open this machine in vmware and jailbreak.
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4128215/MacOS_X_10.4.8 ... - yifanlu94, on 07/20/2008, -0/+8Not going to upgrade yet, but does the apps in Cydia work? The structure for iphone change alot in 2.0 and I don't think 1.1.4 apps will run on there.
- SIRBERUS, on 07/20/2008, -2/+9Can anyone explain the risks to me? Like... if I jailbreak my 3g, do I need to turn off automatic updates somewhere so apple doesn't brick it? And if it does get "bricked"... can it be unbricked?
- rajb245, on 07/20/2008, -0/+7if you've had enough of it, don't read about it, don't comment on it, don't care about it. no one made you read this.
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/20/2008, -0/+7Contrary to popular belief, "bricking" never actually occurs. Everything is reversible (unless I guess you unplug the USB cable during important data transfer).
- bbqsalad, on 07/20/2008, -1/+8a LOT of people.
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/20/2008, -0/+7Good question, but no. That is unlocking.
Jailbreaking = opening the phone's software up to allow third party applications.
Unlocking = patching the baseband (or something similar) so that you can make use it with any carrier. - panjeti, on 07/20/2008, -1/+8FYI: Jailbroken does not equal Unlocked. They are still working to Unlock the 3G phone
- smpx, on 07/20/2008, -0/+6Just a quick note to everyone, Installer.app IS NOT included in the pwnage tool. Futhermore, there are pratically NO applications that you can download or use right now from the jailbreak. ALL previous apps from Installer are no longer compatible with the 2.0 software. I.e. YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD OR USE THE OLD APPS.
Cydia works, but it announces that pretty much all the software packages are command-line only and mostly for developers. Few of which are designed for end users.
A bit disappointing, but understandable. If you don't need to unlock your iPhone, I recommend waiting until new apps are developed. - mgxplyr, on 07/20/2008, -4/+10I seriously want to whip up an OSX install in VMware right now just to get this thing jailbroken. I want my Apollo back!
- dpowre, on 07/20/2008, -3/+9then do it...
- championchap, on 07/20/2008, -3/+9So i guess you two both missed that it was a joke huh?
Sometimes you dont need a sarcasm tag. - Farik, on 07/20/2008, -0/+68 days after the launch of 2.0 doesn't seem too long to me...
- dogboi, on 07/20/2008, -1/+7Any links for the iPod Touch specific files? Unless they are exactly the same as the iPhone files? (Which I doubt)
- hiddencatch, on 07/20/2008, -1/+7While this PWNage version is far from useful without the Installer and ways to port the applications. However, seems it does allow for SSH access.
With SSH access, shouldn't be long before it's possible to SFTP an application into the iPhone bypassing AppStore. - godofpumpkins, on 07/20/2008, -3/+8it's *****, he's trying to save face and failing miserably :)
- dbr_onix, on 07/20/2008, -1/+6> Well, I guess it's time to go buy a mac and become a real hacker...
>> Good luck with that one.
In all fairness,
$ uname -v

/usr/bin/gcc
/bin/cat
/usr/bin/sed
/usr/bin/awk
/usr/bin/grep
/usr/bin/vim
/usr/bin/emacs
/bin/ed
What more does a "hacker" need? - packman86, on 07/20/2008, -1/+6got my 2.0 on right now, and its 5.30 AM!
- fr0ng, on 07/20/2008, -6/+11Time to downgrade, unlock, and eBay.
