- r2builder, on 07/22/2008, -6/+29We've had around 5 front-page stories telling us exactly this. Wake me up when installer.app 4 gets released.
- Zanneth, on 07/22/2008, -1/+15I just tethered my iPhone to my laptop, and now I'm surfing the web with 3G--freaking win.
- jrattner1, on 07/22/2008, -1/+11I'm telling AT&T!
- Zanneth, on 07/22/2008, -2/+10I used an SSH tunnel! Here's the steps:
1. Create an ad-hoc wireless network from your laptop/computer.
2. Have your iPhone connect to the wireless network. The 3G icon should still stay in the status bar.
3. Connect to your iPhone through SSH setting up a dynamic port redirect (I use 8080, it's arbitrary). Type "ssh -D 8080 root@[your iPhone's IP address]" (without quotes and substitute your iPhone's IP)
4. Wait for it to generate the host keys if it hasn't already, then type in the password "alpine"
5. Setup a SOCKS proxy on your browser or computer's settings. For IP address, type in "127.0.0.1" and for port number type "8080" or whatever port number you chose when you ran SSH.
You're set! Make sure your iPhone stays on or else it will automatically shut off the Wi-Fi you will be disconnected. - Firespray1138, on 07/22/2008, -2/+9As cool as it is to jailbreak 2.0 now, what's the point? Hardly any applications have been ported to 2.0 yet. When Customize and Summerboard are ported, then I'll jailbreak.

- amasiancrasian, on 07/22/2008, -2/+8Installer.app isn't all that great. It's written by Nullriver, who is now a commercial app developer and has a commercial incentive not to support Installer.app--they've passed on development to a for-profit iPhone Russian mod team. Cydia is a better installer because it's based on open source Debian apt package manager, and there is some transparency to the code. Of course, the interface is a little rougher--but that will be fixed in due time. But I'd trust the open source package manager over the for-profit Russian mod team--who knows where your IMEIs are going...
- tian2992, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6call me when mobile scrobbler is released!
- phoomp, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4Waiting for Summerboard.
- fletcher008, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4I went through the jailbreak process on my ipod touch last night and ever since have been wondering the same thing. I guess I can say that I have a jailbroke ipod and impress my non-techy friends. I should have stayed with the non 2.0 installer, but I was impatient and wanted to play with the "remote" app which is pretty cool.
- mediaphile, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4Well, there's at least some minor customization you can do, like swapping out your sliders and whatnot. I'm partial to the transparent slider background.
I know, not too big a deal, but at least this stuff is working. - Fritzel, on 07/22/2008, -1/+4How did you set this up, I'm not asking for a step by step but if you can point me to a howto, or tell me what app you used to configure the iphone to work as a gateway that would help quite a bit

- Sihing, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Awesome work, I'll have to jailbreak my 2.0... the new firmware DOES seem sluggish, least more so then any of the other versions. I'm kind of a minimalist... only kind of.
- jigeen, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0Anyone know how to turn off edge for the 1st gen iPhone w/ the new 2.0 Software? It doesn't seem like cydia has BossPref.
- rayburn1976, on 07/24/2008, -1/+0I found a company that I just insured my 3G iPhone, my iPod touch and my wifes BlackBerry through. The service was absolutely top-notch!! Www.iphonereplacementservices.net is the address. I heard it on the radio in Michigan and I emailed them at customerservice@digitalcaboodle.com and they answered me back in less then 8 minutes! 8 MINUTES! I have never seen anything like this site! Pass the word, someone really cares and we know its not At&t or Apple. Get your stuff covered!! Great people to work with and the website was the real deal!!
- o5rob5o, on 07/22/2008, -6/+11-you download the remote internet app

voila! - godinster, on 07/22/2008, -6/+2Aw, there was a front page without iPhone crap on it for 5 minutes. I want my iPhone-less front page back, thank you.
