- bnyoung11, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50i will buy an ipod just like an iphone without the phone features in a heartbeat
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43A 160 GB hard drive seems a little too big (to me) seeing that Apple's portable computers' hard drive isn't even that big (base model).
- DesignerScott, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Speculative B.S.
- SmackMyMac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19I meant to say Cover Flow instead of Front row. My Bad.
But still, Front row on an iPod would be pretty bad ass. - SmackMyMac, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21It would be nice if they updated the iPod video the same size as the iPhone. That way you could have the same size screen, same resolution, Front row, touch sensitivity and still keep a nice compact form. Just drop the phone, camera and internet capabilities to drop the price base and up the storage capacity. This would also let consumers use iPhone cases on the iPods. No waiting for Third party iPod cases to be released after 30 days.
Just a thought. - jdwhitehouse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Why stop with just WiFi and Safari. I want to be able to run Adobe CS3 and Apache and do some Linux kernel hacking on my iPod nano. When is Apple going to wake up and give me what I want? iPods should be able to run Windows Vista in Parallels without breaking a sweat. Otherwise I'm keeping my money for the next gen Zune.
- whytheam, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Taser/iPod with built in immorality & laser vision.
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12WiFi would be convenient. Lack thereof is not a deal breaker by any stretch. The return of Firewire would be nice, though.
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I could live with 100GB. I've been waiting for something around that size from Apple to upgrade my 60GB iPod Photo. If what Apple has planned is anywhere near what this guy is predicting, I'm sold.
- mastercheif, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I think hitachi or samsung just announced a 160GB 1.8 inch drive today or yesterday.
- TdiFFRob6876, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Bluetooth 2.0 capable for wireless high quality in-ear headphones. Plz Apple Plz.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Dugg down for pretentious (and incorrect) use of GiB.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It;s a ***** iPod, it plays your media. If you want the Internet, get a tablet or iPhone.
- mightytribble, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Dude, Apple's been in the margin business since Steve-o returned to the mothership. It just so happened that they did it right by creating desirable products.
- nufoto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Don't for get Finalcut HD and.Maya...and a Portable transporter device to beam objects across the room....
- jhuebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I like the ideas in the article. I'd love to have a video iPod with a glass face and an GUI interface similar to the iPhone. I'm not even particularly interested in things like Wifi (although stereo Bluetooth might be nice) or PDA functionality. I just want my iPod to be a first-class audio/video player, for the same reason that I still use a Motorola RAZR. A cell phone should allow you to make and receive calls. It doesn't need to do anything else.
That said, I still have a serious case of iPhone lust. But I'll be damned if I switch to AT&T. - Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yep i think that sums it up, but of couse the bigger HDD, and definitely not the stupid recessed headphone jack. Wifi i doubt it unless they plan on allowing direct downloading tracks to the device, not for browsing, thats the iPhones business.
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5why not shrink them down as you copy them accross?
its not like you need hidef movies on your ipod - mikev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your iPod battery will die before you listen to half of your collection…
- djJohnnyG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, I guess my wish was granted, we've finally gotten away from all that wild "what will the iphone be like" speculation
- Jolene, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4While I agree with you that it would be nice. Its not going to happen. Not any time soon anyways. The Iphone didn't come out that long ago. They aren't going to undercut their newest product. Why buy an Iphone if the new Ipod does everything an Iphone does? I already have a cellphone, and a contract with another wireless company. Why would I bother changing that, and getting an Iphone. When I could just get the new Ipod?
- Sprules04, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10It's called the iPhone and it's available now.
- tf5bassist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5immorality vision FTW. :D
- bpapa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3FM radio is certainly a must! Who needs music when you can listen to commercials?
- kelly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Did you not read the article?
He made a valid point about not simply selling an iPhone without the phone and then selling it for less money. - timusca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The chocolate is a cell phone. Of course it has that ability.
- cyberwiz01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Watch YouTube videos at their native resolution?
- CoreyBaehman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I guess because every other and better phone on the market is not worthy of having internet.
iPhone ***** sucks dude.
But this is digg, and before this gets off the front page I will be dugg down as much as the story is dugg up. - nightmare1228, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Come on I really want the wifi on the new ipods. If they don't have it, I will probably still buy, but the wifi would make me wait in line for one of those.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I know several people that are over 200G with their music - not to mention movies.
Would be cool to be able to have it all --- although of course, yes, then we would be talking a TB ... someday... - pastasauce, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I got the 60GB version after it came out and I have been struggling with space since. My library on my computer is exceeding the 100GB milestone.
I think 100-140GB would be large enough to accommodate people like me.
However, knowing God (i.e. Steve Jobs), he'll say "I don't know why anyone would need more than 80GB at this time." - championchap, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Wifi Internet included?
Because that's a bit of a selling point for the iPhone for me.. though for the most part I would agree with you. - richdrogpa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No need to speculate. The 6th gen. iPod line is in a pipeline for official release in late September 2007. See here for today's UBS investment research report: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/08/21/ubs_says_iphone_sales_ahead_of_estimates_new_ipods_on_the_way.html
In his note to clients, the UBS analyst also said he expects Apple to refresh its iPod video and iPod nano lines sometime next month. Among the expected introductions are higher capacity iPod nanos at aggressive price points, as well as a flash based widescreen video iPod likely using multi-touch technology for less than $300. - sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Your eyes must hate you.
- intrepidDesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3how about a battery that can be replaced once it dies?? This seems very wasteful on Apple's behalf, and should be a simple fix.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Best or worst is only a matter of opinion, I will be sure to let you ruin using my iPhone because dear god someone hates the iPhone I should let that hamper my ability to use it.
- bpapa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This article seems to be grounded in reality. Since pre-iPhone launch, I've seen people say that it's a "no-brainer" that we'd see the next iPod be the iPhone without the phone. But I doubt that will happen and this author seems to agree with me. Besides, an iPhone without the phone would probably still be ***** expensive as hell anyway, so I don't think people would really be compelled to buy one.
A wide-screen/touch-screen iPod could be nice but again, can they deliver that at the traditional price point?
I think I'm more curious to see what they have planned for the next Shuffle. I have the current Shuffle and it's awesome. Can they make it even smaller? - jhuebel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3A widescreen iPod has been discussed for some time now. And the PSP has been doing widescreen for years. So saying the Zune innovated in that regard is silly.
- cam2009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just manually manage it and keep the rest on the iPod. I ran out of space a while ago, and even though I'm more paranoid about my computer crashing now, there is no reason to need 160gb with you at all times. Keep a little for every occasion and leave the rest on your hard drive. There's sites to catalog all your albums in case of a crash. Audiobooks especially, you don't need all your books with you at all times. 5 albums a day is a little excessive, though, isn't it? I can understand the 200gb, but spread it out, you can't really get into 5 new albums in one day then do it again the next. Not asking for you to memorize an album start to finish before moving on, but take a little time to appreciate them.
- Bob042, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Umm, Apple would copy the Zune if they did a wide screen? The zune's current screen is exactly the same resolution/aspect as the iPod video, just vertical. The ipod is more "widescreen", but neither is 16:9 or theatre ratio.
- theanticrust, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2In the end I want my iPod to play music, so that's why I've stuck with my 3G iPod this long. A wide format touchscreen is not going to make replace it. Although I would if they were to add wifi and safari. That would be my killer feature to push me over.
- Grok22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4while a voice recorder may be nice, i cant remember the last time I listened to the radio and found something i liked
- ConnieSharp1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4FM tuner and voice recording needs to be added. I want to take my ipod to class and record the lecture.
- Grok22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm still using my 4G iPod, its working fine. I keep wanting to upgrade but i just cant bring my self to do it when my 4G is perfectly fine
- Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you can never have too much storage, i have the 30GB video, i have 5GB of music, 10GB of Podcasts (somehow) 0.5GB video, and ican use the rest as USB storage
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Then an XM or Sirius tuner.
- skidooer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1While I agree wholeheartedly, I realize that such a product would cost more than the iPhone itself. Maybe someday we'll see the iPhone available without any cell service requirement.
- ChildeRoland420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but then they lose revenues from battery replacements (and somepeople just go out and buy a new iPod when their battery dies).
- habbofresh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't. because it;s a music player.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You don't take your laptop on the subway or in the car do you? ;)
