- hdprice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32Dynamic filters at last!!
- AloofDufus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27So what if we already know it already?
Your post is redundant and repetitive, not to mention repetitious. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Pics?
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Hey there Ireland. I've just created a very special hyperlink - just for you!
http://digg.com/logout - turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19How long till after release will it be pirated and cracked?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1524 hours probably. Those crackers are good. :P
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13im sure its not a matter of how long after the release because if its leaked at all it will be cracked long before its released publicly.. and be prepared to deal with 1000's of fake cracks before a real one shows itself.
- hoppdawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Bend Over, Here It Comes Again? Are you forced to buy it or something?
- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Would be nice to see that it doesn't make me fall asleep before it actually loads.
- DZNpusher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Figure out a way to save my history with my file.
I know I can save the history information, but I want to be able to go back 4 steps AFTER I have saved and closed the file.
I know that's all saved in RAM now, but change that and I'll be the first in line... - MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Most likely not too long afterwards...
...they should just call the commercial version beta3
The release date isn't until it hits P2P Networks - Frost9999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Some of the new features sound really useful. I like the idea that the interface will be more flexible and of course the new layer and filter functionality is a logical progression from what exists in CS2. What continually amazes me is that nobody else can touch this product. The Gimp doesn't come close, and will now be even further back. And every other app is being left behind too... somebody save us from an Adobe monopoly!
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Opening CS3 is going to be faster than GIMP? Hmm... well if CS1 takes 20 seconds to load and CS2 takes 40 seconds to load then CS3 with a crap load of new "features" (AKA bug fixes that should have always been included) I'm guessing I'll be able to go to lunch and come back before I can actually work on a file.
- hanpil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You want to open up PS for minor things?
- AloofDufus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"What continually amazes me is that nobody else can touch this product."
Adobe has dozens (if not hundreds) of highly paid engineers working full time on Photoshop development, so it's not too amazing after all. - emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Well hopefully they speed it up and make it more efficient for the Windows environment too. I also hope they focus more on the photographer and improve things like the panorama merging utility.
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2PS CS3 is going to be intel native, so if you have an intel mac... most likely it'll be faster than CS2
- Blisshead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What about lightbox? I'm not a photographer so I stopped paying attention after seeing the beta, but I thought that was the tool they were developing to meet that particular need.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -1/+3At least they add an important and significant feature every time around, unlike...say...Vista? ;)
But seriously, this may be the first Photoshop upgrade in YEARS that is worth the money...at least a reasonable upgrade price. It's never been worth the ridiculous, only for businesses, full retail price, haha. - Complexium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm so looking forward to this! :D
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2and long, Long, LONG overdue! My god, the gymnastics we all have to go through (histories, saving multiple versions, etc.) just to be able to change the setting of a layer on the fly. I mean, actions have been able to do this since they were introduced. This will go a LONG way into bringing the creaking Photoshop interface up to snuff. Yay!!!
- WombatBob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Photoshot CS3 Crack/Keygen/Torrent just months away.
- HeavyDose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I cannot wait to get this. I hate having to open up GIMP just for minor things."
Geez, you can't wait 20 seconds? Dust a shelf or something... - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I keep Paint Shop Pro 7 (After version 7, the loading starts to get a lot slower) for quick ("minor") things, like saving screenshots, simple resizing/rotating of images (Not sure how you'd do "complex resizing/rotating", but nevermind) and such things.
"Photoshop wasn't built for the average home computer" - Erm, it works perfectly well even on lower-end systems, maybe now quite so fast, and it will probably take hours to open huge 200 layer PSD's, but it'll work..
Anyway, I use Photoshop CS2 so much I never really though about CS3 - the improvements sound great. Silly things like AE7 changing of UI colour is something I've wanted to do (Admittedly negligible), the "Live Filter" system is... ridiculously long over-due - whats interesting is AE7 introduced a node-view. While it's not terribly usefull in AE (Currently it just lets you see how things are connected, it doesn't seem possible to change settings, add "nodes" in and such), if they inpliment and improve it in Photoshop, it could be.. handy..
The 3D and (more so) the Video intergration sounds intersting, hopefully it's better than the old "filmstrip file" - things like transport controls, being able to make edits apply to all frames onwards etc would be great.
- Ben - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am glad that they are going to add the ability to customize, like in the production studio. Everything is streamlined. I like that they are integrating it more with video and 3d. There are some composite programs that automaticaly adjust different renders and render layers, it will be neat to see how Adobe integrates with Autodesk and the likes. I wish they would up the amount of files you can batch process in Illustrator. It is annoying doing it a little at a time. It would be great to see them incorporate video into that.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When Apple first announced the Intel transition, Adobe clearly stated they would not port CS2 over and would instead have Mac/Intel compatibility in CS3. They stated it would be out in Q2 2007.
This story seems to show that Adobe may possibly ship CS3 in Q2 2007. So about the only newsworthy part of this story is that a major software development company may actually be sticking to their schedule. May. - CBLeslie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Photoshop wasn't built for the average home computer."
That's backwards thinking. I hope Adobe doesn't hear that; at home image editing is the market they want. Any computer as of 6 years ago should be able to run it's Photoshop version equivalent, effectively - Vlatro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha... WinImages, you have to be joking. If their product is so great, how come their website looks like it was designed by a 7th grade flunky. It's a fine program for home use, but the people who pay for photoshop are professionals, and there is no substitute for them.
- KooLLaiD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am willing to bet money that it's A LOT sooner than months away :o
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stop whining and start WINE-ing
- iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just was hired into a new position and was able to choose my hardware. I chose a MacPro thinking that hardware lasts many lifetimes of software. I am very excited to NOT run Creative Suite through Rosetta. Some of most seemingly simple tasks take many many seconds.
Also, at home I still use Photoshop 4 for quick and dirty edits, runs like a rocketship even on my 1gz comp. - brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"At least they add an important and significant feature every time around, unlike...say...Vista?"
Or the EA Sports division... I hate it how they roll out the "upgraded" sports sim games every_single_year. - CBLeslie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yay! More Adobe bloat-ware. I stopped upgrading at Photoshop 9. For what I do, I see very little use in the new "Features".
- Clodagh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@ davidod87,
I wonder how many logged out clicking on that link, duh.
Ireland has a point you jerks, everybody knows CS3 is coming anyway. Besides Think Secret gets things wrong more then they get things right. Insider is a much more reliable place to find info on upcoming Apple products and software, the reason I mentioned Apple is this is an Apple topic, right? - masskurec, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0there is a cs4 version now
http://xptweak.net - jaems, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@CBLeslie
With regards to home usage, I think there are two version of Photoshop (maybe more?). Most average home users have Photoshop Elements, which I believe has basic features, and is sufficient for photo retouching and resizing. It's about three times more expensive than Photoshop CS, with relatively minimal hardware requirements.
Personally, I don't think it's logical to require that the current Photoshop shouldn't have requirements beyond the computer models of the last six years, as this version of the program isn't geared to the home, given it's price point and usage in the industry. Since most industry equipment at large firms are rotated after a two to four year cycle, it isn't a huge deal. - crossers, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I can't wait to get this.))

http://www.chasr.org/ - fyngyrz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1In your imagination. WinImages (which works under OSX/Parallels just fine, btw) has had "dynamic filters" for years, and has more features than Photoshop, hands down. It's not the same, particularly in the area of photo retouching, where it is WAY better than photoshop, and in the area of animated special effects, again where it is WAY better, but it covers most of the same ground. Photoshop's got some great features, but that superiority is a matter of marketing and perception, not fact. Believe it; until you've used WinImages, you have no idea how productive you can be.

Get a faster computer. Photoshop wasn't built for the average home computer. - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No word on a Linux version? :( bah!
If a Linux version comes out I might actually buy PS - Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I cannot wait to get this. I hate having to open up GIMP just for minor things.
- CircleFusion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I just purchased a copy of Pixel Image Editor, which looks like it may actually become a true Photoshop competitor, and multi-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux and more).
http://www.kanzelsberger.com/
It's currently in beta testing. If you buy it now, it's only $32 and you won't have to pay until version 2. When it goes 1.0, it will be somewhere around $72 -$100, so you'll be saving money if you buy it early.
Also, the license is incredibly flexible. The licensing is per user, not per machine. You can buy it once and place the software on multiple computers, legitimately. I have it on my Win XP work computer, my Win XP desktop home computer and my Ubuntu Linux laptop.
The thing that impresses me the most is how responsive the developer (yes, one single developer) is to feature suggestions. I have no idea how one developer has been able to code so many features. - fyngyrz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Or get a faster, more efficient program. WinImages loads (4 meg executable... a lot better coded than Photoshop) in seconds. And offers more features. :)
You *do* have to run it under Parallels, but that doesn't affect its speed particularly. On my Macbook pro, there's no waiting you'd have time to worry about.
I understand a pure Mac version is on the way, too. - prot0col, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2BitTorrent of Photoshop CS3 just months away.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -62/+5The title of your article is contradictory, being that people already know CS3 is months away already.
