- bluenile, on 04/30/2009, -22/+502i am sure he shat bricks upon opening the box.
- Red989, on 05/01/2009, -5/+443At least it was bubble wrapped.
I never accept paving bricks that aren't properly sealed - digitalpencil, on 05/01/2009, -14/+358* calls Applecare.
"Yeh, i just opened the box for my new MBP and found a brick inside.."
"Have you tried plugging it in?"
"No, I mean it's an *actual* brick."
"I'm sorry sir, but I can't help you until you at least attempt to plug it in.."
on a side note: why do people buy things from BestBuy? we don't even have BestBuy in my country and even I know not to buy anything from there! and why, if the MBP is $2000, did this guy pay an extra $165 for his brick? or is that just standard policy? - TheMachine1, on 05/01/2009, -4/+260Double ripoff thats a used brick.
- smacksaw, on 05/01/2009, -3/+240These stories always remind me of the guy that got cocaine in his Seagate hard drive box.
When I worked at CompUSA, I would say that 9/10 of the people doing these returns are ***** scammers. Especially because we'd compare video and see them going from store to store and even would alert our competitors. But I can believe this as well since we once got a shipment of hard drives that were all filled with tightly-wrapped bricks of cocaine.
The thing is, sometimes there are returns (like the Wii with Chinese newspapers), but we started to figure out that this theft happened during manufacturing. Your warehouse is a huge theft area. Most of our stores lost 60% or more of all stolen product out the back door. Shoplifting is very low, it's bad returns and employee theft more than anything. It turns out that these manufacturers also have theft via their warehouses as well.
Anyway, often the product is swapped out, which is why it could be Apple-sealed AND have a brick in it. Best Buy is the victim as much as the consumer is. We kicked around an idea of actually opening ***** to verify contents, but once the higher-ups got a hold of the idea they turned it into a delivery and install service. All we wanted to do was just see if the customer was getting what they bought. That way no one get's defrauded AND scammers can't return bricks or broken products because we ID'd the contents. You wonder why CompUSA went down the tubes. We had a chance to really stop shrink and not waste the time of CSRs doing returns and it turned into some sort of addon that people didn't want. - CarStan, on 05/01/2009, -10/+1961.Take MacBook Pro out of box and replace it with a brick
2.Take a picture, complain to best buy and post it on blog
3.Get paid back your $2164.89.
4.Profit (aka a free MacBook Pro!) - EH90, on 05/01/2009, -2/+187We have a little thing called sales tax over here.
- fluidfoundation, on 05/01/2009, -7/+159The Macbrick Pro. A-maz-ing.
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -9/+159At least the Brick looks nice ^_^
- MelvinSchlubman, on 05/01/2009, -2/+136You get used to it.
- smazms, on 05/01/2009, -17/+136you might have got buried by the apple fanboys but I thought it was funny..
- zhaojon, on 05/01/2009, -4/+120But can it run Crysis?
- thegamingguy, on 05/01/2009, -5/+109Does it get hot on his lap too?
- blackcloud333, on 05/01/2009, -26/+129You can probably run a few more apps on the brick than a Macbook.
- ehaugan, on 05/01/2009, -8/+101Ummm, this must be the new iBrick Pro we have been hearing about. Its the no keyboard, no screen version of the Macbook Pro
- diggyduggle, on 05/01/2009, -24/+115I wonder if they had bothered to draw an apple logo on it, would they have even noticed the difference?
Just kidding! I really mean; if they drew an apple logo on it after painting it white, would other Apple owners have noticed. - deviouskoopa, on 05/01/2009, -1/+88Say you're a bit flustered after receiving a brick in the mail, but still need to pay for it via credit card?
There's an app for that. - rolf, on 05/01/2009, -0/+85"We kicked around an idea of actually opening ***** to verify contents..."
Sir, I nominate you as CEO of Best Buy. - inactive, on 05/01/2009, -4/+83If it were a Windows based laptop, the brick would have only cost the buyer 400$
- overkill219, on 05/01/2009, -2/+74I wish when I ordered my Seagate that it came with free cocaine.
- Chrysalii, on 05/01/2009, -7/+77and in the end isn't that why you bought the Mac?
couldn't hold it in - stickyman, on 05/01/2009, -5/+70Apple bricks are way, way better than any other kind of brick though.
Microsoft offer you way too many choices of brick. - digitalpencil, on 05/01/2009, -4/+62i didn't realise it was added on after.. isn't that really annoying or do you just get used to paying an extra 8.25% when you get to the till?
- devildog1633310, on 05/01/2009, -0/+55Sell on on Ebay as Hanna & Barbara's Flintstone laptap.
- feenstrovski, on 05/01/2009, -7/+60You already profited on step 3. Dumbass!
- MelvinSchlubman, on 05/01/2009, -0/+52Pre-owned, refurbished.
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -2/+52lol butthurt
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -13/+62Judgining by the ratio of Diggs:Buries of your comment, we can assume that one third of Digg are Mac Fanboys, whilst the other two thirds have a sense of humour.
- iPsyko, on 05/01/2009, -2/+50Most people would be disappointed with the brick, however, look at it this way: he is the only one who has that brick. Thats some cool *****. Now he has that red brick to take pictures with, swim with, hell even use as his tombstone. He can look forward to years of entertainment rather than a couple years with some high-tech gadget that will soon be replaced! It's part of his family now, whether he wants it to be or not. Bricks like this are here to stay, and i believe we should accept them with open arms not asking, "Why?", rather, "Why not?"
- handheldchimp, on 05/01/2009, -2/+49Most likely not. Bricks only have integrated video. There is no space for a video card.
- norman619, on 05/01/2009, -13/+59And it doubles are a weapon!
- StigNordas, on 05/01/2009, -8/+51I don't know... It's not too terrible. Might make a nice candle holder, or inspire a brick oven for making Napoleonic pizzas.
- Lionhart, on 05/01/2009, -1/+40Not that I don't believe him....but what is to stop someone from taking their Macbook out of their box, putting a brick in it, taking a picture, and then claiming they got ripped off to get a free second laptop?
- happytrees, on 05/01/2009, -1/+40I like best buy. I bought a laptop when I went to college in 2002, and because of their "no lemon policy", I've gotten 2 free laptops since. all you have to do is bring it in for service 4 times, and they'll give you a new one.
best deal I've seen - especially because you get the same price you paid for the original, which means a whole bunch of new specs for freeeeeee! - techdever, on 05/01/2009, -27/+64the brick os is rock solid! unlike osx
- Sqlawl, on 05/01/2009, -2/+37I didn't realize the iBrick was released yet.
- bigteebo, on 05/01/2009, -1/+36This must be the new netbook version of the P-P-P-PowerBook.
- KennMac, on 05/01/2009, -0/+34I drive to New Hampshire to make expensive purchases like laptops. 0% sales tax. It costs me 20 bucks in gas, but saves me $150-$200.

- Crashwithuhk, on 05/01/2009, -3/+35I just got back from an editing lab where not one but three Mac's froze up on me. So yes, I have. I don't get these problems with Windows 7.
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -0/+32Best Buy located in Rockville, MD on Route 355 once accused me of stealing once....Story..
Before the days of highspeed internet, me and a friend bought a modem which was suppose to be cardinal 56k with voice. When we got home, the box contained Boca modem with Cardinal drivers. We came back to the store and no one believed us. The manager already said in front of my face that we were lying and threatened to get the cop that was working as a security, which he came around. By this time, I got frustrated and being accused, so I opened another one and voila, the same. My friend couldn't believe this. But anyhow, should have seen the look on their faces.
best buy managers =retards.
For all your needs if you can't wait for it (aka online), goto Microcenter. - soulonfire928, on 05/01/2009, -0/+29Also some states don't tax everything. Like Pennsylvania (where I live), the sales tax is 6%-but by and large food and clothes aren't taxed.
- hauntedchippy, on 05/01/2009, -1/+29The brick is a feature.
- DiggMasterJ, on 05/01/2009, -2/+29@omgbanana Not here in Chicago. We pay 10.25% They take from you when you make money, they take from you when you spend money, they deflate the money you have left over, if you don't want to pay rent they take from you for owning property. But at least your representatives have your best interests in mind./s
- omgbanana, on 05/01/2009, -1/+28The best part is that the percentage varies from state to state. Anyhow, if you work in retail (as I do) you actually become adept at calculating sales tax at an odd, single digit-with-a-fraction percentage in your head. The easiest thing to do, though, is just figure an addition 10% and you're guaranteed to be paying less than the total.
- Jough, on 05/01/2009, -0/+26Yes, that does mean he bought the extended warranty. I usually do so as well on many things from Best Buy. I would rather pay $200 with my initial purchase and cheat the system to get a free upgrade after a couple years than pay $2000 twice.
- Donotsurf, on 05/01/2009, -1/+27ㅎ_ㅎ
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -2/+28Yes. That's why we Dugg him up.
- TheOther1, on 05/01/2009, -1/+26It's a very small pizza with a big attitude.
